Via Ace, who properly calls it awesome. This makes two segments in as many nights on Hume’s show on the roots of the crisis, and as with the first, there’s little you don’t already know. Even so, the archival footage of one of the Democrats’ nastiest demagogues reassuring America that everything’s peachy keen with the subprime mortgage industry is worth its weight in gold, especially after he thoughtfully paused this morning to snark on McCain for trying to help clean up the mess he himself did so much to make.

Joining Fox News in acknowledging the left’s role in the crisis: Newly minted right-leaning independent Bill Clinton.

More news on Jamie Gorelick and special favors from Countrywide in the way of a sweet 5% interest rate.

Ms. Gorelick acknowledged she may have dealt with the Countrywide employee in California who handled the so-called Friends of Angelo loans, but said she believed she only received expeditious service. “You’d think if somebody was trying to do me a favor, they would tell me they were doing me a favor, and I am unaware of any such treatment,” she said, adding that she was planning to leave her position as vice-chairman of Fannie Mae at that time.

“When I did this transaction, I was decidedly a has-been,” she said. “I had no favor to give.”

Uh Huh. I’m sure she said that when she got $26 million out of Fannie Mae after a few years of hard work too. Gosh, who knew that everyone doesn’t make this kind of dough for screwing the American people by grossly overstating Fannie Mae’s earnings!

While I question Bill’s motives — he’s clearly angling for a little quid pro quo — I am loving the results.

Does anyone know if Barney Frank is related to Buddy Hacket?
