It’s a special man indeed who can make both O’R’s and Olbermann’s enemies lists. Courtesy of Levin’s producer, a modest response to this morning’s sneak attack reducing Bill to a bold fresh piece of humanity:

Love the Ted Baxter line. O’Reilly really needs to STFU here. Insulting your core audience isn’t exactly the track you want to go down.
He should really lose the radio gig and stop embarrassing himself further.
Vintage Levin.

I love mark levin but he is wrong this time.
we dont need idealogues right now. we need a deal.
the free market wasnt working in this market with the quasi governmental agencies mac and may. so, a pure free market solution wont work.
do a deal and THEN fix the issue…assuming you have republicans in charge which you wont since democraps run the congress and no matter who wins the white house…its pretty much a democrat in financial policy

“…utterly unencumbered with information…”
My nomination for the quote of the day.
Unfortunately, this applies equally well to most of our politicians.

You’ve seen the beginnings of this for quite some time now. Rush’s comments in the New York Times Magazine piece with Zev Chafets were like the signal that it was about to boil over.

O’Reilley is wrong more often than not. Can’t tell where he is on the ideological spectrum. On economics he comes across populist and Liberal. Certainly not Conservative. His rants against the oil companies are tiresome.

lorien1973 on September 25, 2008 at 9:04 PM
While I was tending toward the bailout, I’m now reconsidering, thanks largely to voices like Newt, Levin, Stossel (tonight on FNC) et al.
Nationalizing the financial sector is a really bad move, and if there’s any way to relieve adequately the credit crunch without it, then it’s worth a try. Besides, free markets require the freedom to fail.
petefrt on September 25, 2008 at 9:05 PM
Wait! Now I’m conflicted about the quote of the day. This from Newt:
“…Obama is acting appropriately for a first term Senator who is a natural back-bencher…”

“utterly unencumbered with information.”
That EXACTLY describes O’Reilly. What a joke. What a moron indeed.
TheBigOldDog on September 25, 2008 at 9:08 PM
This attitude makes me laugh. So typical of the leftward side of the government and the financial fatcats who have been scamming huge profits over the years: “give us lots and lots of money with no strings attached so we can keep what we’ve extorted, We can talk about ‘fixes’ later. Maybe. If we feel like it.”
MrScribbler on September 25, 2008 at 9:08 PM
I agree with Jack Welch and all the business leaders. I agree with Greenspan, etc. Lets get real.
Newt Gingrich..I have NO respect for this global warming hoax believing, nancy pelosi ass kicking douche…he is wrong as usual.
M Levin: I have tons of respect for…but we need a practical solution and elect republicans to fix the underlying problems…
Now, I agree that Bill OReilly is an embarrassment…and he is wrong on all his B.S….but we need a deal not these republican house members that are not seeing the big picture and are sticking to their idealogy.
Throwing the country into a deep recession will hurt everybody.

IrishEi on September 25, 2008 at 9:11 PM
I love Mark but I tend to agree with you. Mark knows the Government caused the mess but he doesn’t seem to think they have a responsibility to clean up their mess. I have an open mind and can be persuaded either way at this point but I looked into the abyss last Thursday and I know what’s coming if something isn’t done.

You sound ignorant dude. People who know what they are talking about say the government has a good chance at MAKING money on the deal like they did with the RTC bailout, Mexico bailout, Chrysler bailout. The “bailouts” ended up making the government money. certainly, it wont be a 700 million price tag…that is just ignorant.

You guys pulling this line about ideology, which I keep hearing over and over again are very suspicious. Why do I get the feeling you could really give a sheet about the country and actually are looking to cover your own investments.
I am not buying into it. If you noble realists want to “save” the economy then return that 700B to the taxpayers that provided it.

I only recently learned what “Jumped the Shark” means. Who thinks it applies here?

I don’t like the bent O’R’s been taking for awhile now … he seems pretty ignorant to the basics of capitalism. Also … he’s not very loyal to the people who made him what he is today. Mark Levin OWNS!

Thanks for proving that you dont have the foggiest idea what the hell you are talking about. What 700B are you talking about? Nobody and I mean NOBODY thinks the bailout will cost the government and the taxpayers 700b. That is the amount of money to BUY THE ASSETS THAT ARE SECURED WITH REAL ESTATE, FOOL. The government has the luxury of auctioning off the assets in such a way as to recoup most if not all if not make a profit on the assets.
Best not to type when you are talking out of your ass.
Roger Waters on September 25, 2008 at 9:18 PM
That was the bit that clicked with me too.
I don’t usually listen to Levin (inconvenient time in my market) but when I’ve tuned in the thing that strikes me about his show is the way he makes the case and backs up each and every statement with facts. Utterly unlike O’Reilly who essentially makes it up as he goes.

Matt Helm on September 25, 2008 at 9:24 PM
As Ed outlined here, this whole damn thing was caused by governmet intrusion, namely the Community Reinvestment Act.
This was not really the fault of the private sector. So, in the name of principle, we are not going to aid the private sector? The taxpayer is on the hook, yes, but the taxpayer let the Democrats get away with this Fannie May/Freddie Mac crapola. So the solution, albeit painful, fits.
silverfox on September 25, 2008 at 9:24 PM
Strange.
I’ve never liked O’Reilly as much as I do after hearing his rant. I liked it.
Ideologues bore me. And he’s right to call both sides on the carpet on this one.
I’m conservative because I know conservatism is generally far more effective in governance than liberalism. But unlike far to many, that doesn’t mean I check my critical thinking at the door when I listen to conservatives.
They don’t get pass because they’re on my side. If anything, they get more scrutiny. Because my side should be held to a higher standard. I expect stupidity from liberals; if they weren’t stupid, they wouldn’t be liberal, after all.
Good for Bill. I’m sort of impressed. And Bill rarely impresses me.
Here’s the irony from my perspective: 95% of the time, I think Levin would have been right with the Ted Baxter comment. Spot on, in fact.
But I don’t think its applicable here.

Really douchebag? So they don’t have to pay for these assests up front? Since you are so versed on the subject, you quote me to a fooking penny how much profit my government seeks to gain off of auctioning off these assests. I don’t want anymore bullsheet estimations, you give me the exact amount since it is such a certain good deal.

I’m a Poor Conservative Republican, i’m against the “$700Billion bailout”, I believe a “Smaller Bailout” with Huge Corporate Tax Cuts, and Capital gains tax cuts(AT the same time) and ALL in Energy Policy(Including ANWR, Implemented immediately) could do just as much IF not more to fix the problems now, and would do more in the long run to increase growth, jobs, and revenues.
Also then, obviously make it so the No Income, No asset Loans go away OR make it so that THAT RISK IS WELL KNOWN.(And some kind of oversight on it)

I became a Levin fan when he was a regular pundit on cable news during the Lewinsky mess. He is nothing if not loyal to Limbaugh and Hannity. In that Ted Baxter article, Rush was quoted as being dismissive of Hannity’s success, but I think Limbaugh clarified that comment on his show.
About three weeks ago Levin was on Hannity’s radio show and forced Sean to admit that the McCain campaign sent him a list of prospective veep candidates for feedback — and Palin was on that list, of course. No doubt O’Reilly is plenty envious.

What I am convinced of his that he is all about the $$$. He also knows that his audience is largely conservative but that increasingly doesn’t matter to him.
His “tough” interview with Obama was not tough at all. He doesn’t do really tough interviews with the bigs (Bush, Cheney, Clinton, Obama, etc.) cause he wants their return business.
He is motivated primarily by his ratings. Obviously that is what rings the cash register.

Speaking of talking out an opening other than your mouth, ’splain this:
Total mortgage debt end of 2007 was 7.1 trillion and these bailouts total 1 trillion. I hate to inform you but, there is NOWHERE NEAR 1 in 7 mortgages in or facing foreclosure. Oh, I see! Maybe it’s just the really really really really rich people not paying so it’s only the really really really big mortgages that are being bought.
Paulson’s deal is trash. Add in Schumer’s requirement that those being foreclosed be allowed to have the courts modify their mortgage (balance and interest) and we have now tossed contract law right out the window…. And unless they want to let me go decide what my mortgage balance is and what I have to pay, then they fail the constitutional test of equal treatment. Oh, unless they want to buy out EVERYONE’s risky debt of all kinds, they also violate the constitution. They might make loans… that’s doable. The cannot buy any without buying all.
