Last month, American Solutions announced a video contest for their “Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less” movement, where the winner would get a year’s supply of gasoline free for their efforts. Newt Gingrich and his staff have managed to whittle down the many entries to three finalists. They need your vote to determine which of these contestants best exemplified the need for the DHDNPL effort:
Cast your vote now! Voting ends at 4 pm ET on Saturday, September 27th, which is Solutions Day, and I believe will be announced that evening.

UMM..none of the above??
hippie_chucker on September 25, 2008 at 9:04 AM
I am seriously craving some Jack in the Box after that second video!
The third video makes a good point – I’ve read plenty of stories about police forces making cutbacks because they don’t have enough money for gas.
Good job all around.
Anna on September 25, 2008 at 9:05 AM
Their original video asking for submissions was too long, and lacked much creativity. (Rush Limbaugh can tell you that brevity is the soul of wit) It set the bar pretty low. And these three are the best that they got in response?
wise_man on September 25, 2008 at 9:07 AM
They’re all pretty lame, but Dark Hero is the funniest.
MrLynn on September 25, 2008 at 9:07 AM
I vote for the band in the second video…gotta represent the Inland Empire!
badpenguin on September 25, 2008 at 9:07 AM
I like the dark hero one. lol
powerpro on September 25, 2008 at 9:08 AM
aye carumba
you’d think that free gas for a year would bring out some talent. i haven’t read the fine print, but are they limiting the “free gas for a year” to one fill up a month or something?
we need an option #4: None of the above

Hey Cap,
It looks like anything posted with links is going into the “suspended archives”.

The grunge/rap for the WIN!
Tony737 on September 25, 2008 at 9:13 AM
No. No. No.
Loxodonta on September 25, 2008 at 9:14 AM
I like number 2, the one with the song. On the video’s You Tube page it says:
I’ll be on the lookout for more from Alfonzo Rachel. Nice work!
Gilda on September 25, 2008 at 9:14 AM
In the first video,I want the Director and the Soundman
fired!
The second video, not bad,and bonus points for Nancy
Pelosi’s picture!
The third video, keeps up with a Liberal theme,of fraud
and cooking the books with the purchase of gasoline, but
no points, due to zero pictures of Reid or Pelosi!haha.
canopfor on September 25, 2008 at 9:16 AM
And these three are the best that they got in response? – Wise
Well it’s probably like ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’ where the top three picked are never the funniest.
I like the rap/grunge video (even though I don’t like rap OR grunge) because it might connect with younger viewers, plus it was pretty funny, especially when they guy was draining his own blood into the gas tank! haha
Tony737 on September 25, 2008 at 9:17 AM
How about a “drill there, go through red tape now” campaign. California and Florida want pristine coastlines, but tanks full of gas. Bureaucrats continue to tie up fast track drilling effort from all sides.
Folks, this is a huge joke orchestrated by greedy jerks.

All the links in this post work for me. Maybe you need to clear your cache?
Ed Morrissey on September 25, 2008 at 9:20 AM
Bad sound quality or not, that little girl in the first one is simply adorable.
I don’t consider any of them to be lame and I appreciate the efforts these people went to to make us smile just a little between fill ups. (Which made me frown $75 worth this morning)
wytammic on September 25, 2008 at 9:20 AM
Be sure to check out the “Honorable Mentions” via the link at the voting page. There are some better videos in there.
SilverStar830 on September 25, 2008 at 9:22 AM
None really sent me but the second one was to the point on many levels, especially on the global warming part. I liked the guy trying to gas up eating a can of beans.
brtex on September 25, 2008 at 9:25 AM
The rap video is the best. This is one time where number two is a positive designation.
meci on September 25, 2008 at 9:26 AM
Zo man Zo man Zo man! Go Zo! (#2)
Jewel on September 25, 2008 at 9:27 AM
Wow. Look at the vote tallies. It’s about under a thousand votes each right now. Cute pie chart, by the way. Looks like a PAC Man.
wise_man on September 25, 2008 at 9:30 AM
Did the third one actually end with a logo in which a black figure was being lynched???
That’s just insanely poor branding for an election in which one candidate desperately wants an excuse to cry racism, no?
They’re all fine for You-Tube. None are ready for TV.
ClintACK on September 25, 2008 at 9:37 AM
#2 was the best, that guy does some fly vids.
TheSitRep on September 25, 2008 at 9:38 AM
I voted for #2, it made me laugh. “Tire Pressure” in the Honorable Mentions was pretty good!
RushBaby on September 25, 2008 at 9:40 AM
Good grief, how stupid, STUPID are they all!
My vote: None of the above. Back to the drawing boards.
petefrt on September 25, 2008 at 9:45 AM
Great! I’m hoping that they are as successful as those wonderful Seinfeld/Gates ads for Microsoft.
thuja on September 25, 2008 at 9:48 AM
Meanwhile, our liberal “leaders” have a different agenda:
“House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told CNSNews.com on Wednesday that restoring the ban on new offshore oil drilling leases “will be a top priority for discussion next year” if the Democrats retain control of Congress.”
(Sorry, cleared cache, and still no links allowed at this time. I’m sure you can find the story at CNSNews.com)
So much for energy independence?
Rovin on September 25, 2008 at 9:51 AM
All three of these videos are utterly embarrassing.
Video 1) The little girl was a horrible actress.
Video 2) The style was too grungy and sound was imbalanced.
Video 3) Dumb.
Yes, I could have done better. Did I? No. I drive a scooter.
NONE OF THE ABOVE.
mboprey on September 25, 2008 at 9:57 AM
Hmmm. I’m less than thrilled with these.
But the best to me clearly is the band.
JudetheFossil on September 25, 2008 at 9:57 AM
Everyone remember the guy in the second vid?
It’s Zo. He used to call himself Super Slave.
Video refresher….. Why I’m A Conservative Republican
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on September 25, 2008 at 10:02 AM
All of these videos are lame. The first one is predictable. The second one was insane, and the third was funny but eh.
jencab on September 25, 2008 at 10:04 AM
This is a joke…….right?
grapeknutz on September 25, 2008 at 10:24 AM
Slim pickings. The second one at least has some punch (and puns). Overall they’re awful. A year’s free gas and this is the best so far? Maybe we deserve to walk while watching celebutards burn up the sky with ego-sized chemtrails.
Western_Civ on September 25, 2008 at 10:28 AM
Wow, that’s him?
wise_man on September 25, 2008 at 10:29 AM
Comedy gold from Zo…..
The A-Team (Actually the O-Team)
The Photoshopping is Teh Awesome!!!
Greasy Joe as Hannibal? He’s not smart enough for that role.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on September 25, 2008 at 10:31 AM
Yep. If you ever read his MySpace or YouTube channel, he’s a musician and can play all of those instruments.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on September 25, 2008 at 10:34 AM
Let’s start this all over again…
right2bright on September 25, 2008 at 10:35 AM
I like number 2 . . . btw number 2 has me suspecting it’s from Alphonso – he’s playing all the parts in that musical entourage -isn’t he? He was featured previously in the Diddy Retort and “Why I’m a Conservative Republican”?
heroyalwhyness on September 25, 2008 at 10:55 AM
Gotta give it to Zoe (number 2). Just for the smack on Arnold at the end!
HotAirExpert on September 25, 2008 at 11:02 AM
How about the oil companies say to coastal states – no drilling? fine then no gas deliveries!
bill30097 on September 25, 2008 at 11:19 AM
I prefer #1. That’s one sweet ride the girl is sporting.
Don’t like 2. Don’t like rap.
Dont’ like 3. It looks like a bad Mexican movie – as though there are any good ones.
madmonkphotog on September 25, 2008 at 11:29 AM
Wow, those are terrible.
Is it too late to enter – maybe just a script?

Small town mayor: (identify as in North Dakota, Utah,
Florida, Colorado, etc.) “This is Jim, he’s one of my
neighbors here in little_city. Jim works hard, he has a wife, kids, a mortgage, and he’s pretty good at what he does – but his skills are underemployed where he is because jobs are scarce here.
Now we have oil – right here (just off shore, in the Bekken, in shale etc) but the democrats in congress won’t let us develop it. If we could, Jim would have a better job, another neighbor of mine, who doesn’t have a job, would get one. Everyone would be better off.
So, please, vote Republican – push drill here, drill now – and don’t just do it to get lower gas prices for yourself: do it for Jim, do it for me, do it for America.
Paul Murphy on September 25, 2008 at 11:33 AM
wow – we need to be more persuasive than that
defendfaithandfamily on September 25, 2008 at 11:50 AM
#2 remains my favorite – I just really like the guy. The honorable mentions are all better than the other two options above.
heroyalwhyness on September 25, 2008 at 12:18 PM
Number 2 by all means. That was pretty funny.
bloggless on September 25, 2008 at 12:43 PM
The rap video was pretty funny, and covered a lot of good points.
Mulligan on September 25, 2008 at 1:00 PM
Gotta go with Zo. The little girl was cute but that video was just…not cutting it. The third was sorta funny but too long for what it was.
thecountofincognito on September 25, 2008 at 1:06 PM
Videos 1 and 3 were cute and worthwhile. Video 2 was freakin’ awesome and probably the most effective tool of the 3.
dostrick on September 25, 2008 at 1:27 PM
#3
Bhagwani on September 25, 2008 at 1:39 PM
Number Two deserves it for The Vote Reaper.
David Combs on September 25, 2008 at 1:43 PM
Alfonzo is currently at number 3???????
Good grief. They should’ve just given him the award already.
Sorry, but those other two aren’t even in the same league.
The Ugly American on September 25, 2008 at 2:22 PM
Well, I was going to stay anon, but Dave in Tx outed me on Ace (its ok Dave lol)…
I’m the creator of Dark Hero.
Thanks for all the kind words, and any of your votes.
I’ve been a long time reader, and occasional poster here and also at the Boss’, Ace, Jawa and LGF.
Thanks again, and tell your friends about the contest.
JarvisW on September 25, 2008 at 5:08 PM
