Video: Megyn Kelly rips Obama spokesman for spinning NRA ads

posted at 1:05 pm on September 24, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

If you missed FactCheck’s alleged “fact check” of the NRA ads on Monday, you didn’t miss much. Dave Kopel has the authoritative rebuttal, but if you can’t spare the time for that, see Patterico’s piece for the disgraceful lowlights. One of them figures prominently here, as Obama shill Bill Burton assures Kelly that The One has never supported a total ban on handguns. What about the fact that he said on a 1996 questionnaire that he, um, does support a total ban on handguns? Simple, says Burton: That was filled out by a staffer who got his position wrong. And what about the fact that Obama’s handwritten notes were later found on a second copy of the completed questionnaire, proving that he saw the staffer’s answers and didn’t object? Ah, says Burton — his notes were only found on the front page. He must have missed the answer about banning guns. And what about the fact that The One initially lied shamelessly about never having seen the questionnaire at all until Politico confronted him about it? Kelly never gets around to asking him that, alas. But do note the parallel here with Biden hinting the other day that Obama doesn’t actually approve of the McCain e-mail ad. Forever victimized by rogue staffers, St. Barack is never responsible even when he’s responsible.

As for the other major omission in FactCheck’s analysis, The One’s pathetic, opportunistic flip-flop on the D.C. gun ban, it doesn’t come up either but you already know all about it. File it away with his opposition to lobbyists and earmarks –particularly the bridge to nowhere, which he voted for twice — as further evidence of what a cynical poseur he is.

What a slimy little tool.

As for Megyn Kelly, with all respect to Julie, I think she’s currently now overtaken Banderas as the hottest and sharpest woman on that network.

MadisonConservative on September 24, 2008 at 1:15 PM

What can I say, he’s an effective shill. Not bad.

Obama’s still a terrorist loving, gun grabbing, infanticide supporting, radical extremist Alinksy acolyte who is dangerously unprepared and unqualified to run a soup kitchen much less the executive branch.

Wow. Megyn kicks butt.
This is the same swarmy toad who defended the anti-McCain ad that said he didn’t know how to send an email. He must begin his day by repeating those worn-out talking points over and over and over again.
I need to take a shower now.

OT about Megyn..

Obama is spinning until he vomits on this question. Facts are that Obama has consistently worked against law abiding citizens rights to own firearms. Period. This tool Burtion that says it has been reported on time and time again that the facts are not facts is “crap”. If you cherish and want to preserve the right to protect yourself you are a fool to vote for Hussien Obama. Obama is like Arafat pledging peace to the Israelis while working to murder you in your sleep.

I wish the interviewer would just cut the mike on folks who filibuster. Then, show them on the split screen quietly yammering away unaware that nobody can hear them anymore.

It’d be great to hear the interviewer say, “I’m going to ask a question, and give you plenty of time to answer. However, if you stray off-topic again, I’ll cut your mike until you’re ready to cooperate.”

progressoverpeace on September 24, 2008 at 1:50 PM

It’s disappointing Megyn used only that one questionnaire as evidence of Obama’s preference to ban the people’s right to defend themselves with guns, even in their own home. He supported Chicago’s ban on handguns. He supported DC’s ban which included even using a gun in your own DC home to defend yourself.

Megyn needs to read David Kopel’s critique, at The Volokh Conspiracy, of factcheck.org’s review of the ad.

Dusty on September 24, 2008 at 1:50 PM

Can you imagine how stupid Obama thinks his voters are?

jeff_from_mpls on September 24, 2008 at 1:51 PM

I nominate Bill Burton for the Nobel Prize in Physics

Bill Burton quote:

A lot of members of the NRA support Barack Obama

Apparently Bill has been tinkering with quantum physics in the political shed and has been able to locate NRA members in a parallel universe.

moxie_neanderthal on September 24, 2008 at 1:51 PM

Megyn Kelly tears him a new one. Love it. Too bad most of the rest of the media does not seem to be anywhere near doing the job she seems to do as a reporter.

coyoterex on September 24, 2008 at 1:52 PM

Oh, has anybody else seen or heard the Obama ad that says McCain opposes stem cell research? The ad doesn’t even say embryonic vs adult, but even worse…McCain supported embryonic stem cell research if it used embryos that were going to be thrown away by fertility clinics. Bush opposed that.

The ad says McCain is more opposed to “stem cell research” than Bush. Just an outright fabrication.

funky chicken on September 24, 2008 at 1:53 PM

So, he’s saying the ads are false because there’s no proof that he signed the first document? BUT the second, identical document has Obama’s handwriting on it and corroborates the first document?

I have never in my life seen such creative Lying. Obama’s people are expert in shading and hiding lies.

marklmail on September 24, 2008 at 1:56 PM

You could tell his spokesperson was given a short piece of paper with the talking points. He continuously repeats :

well documented
proven time and time again
false ads
free advertising
Washington Post

Notice how he tries to infer that a questionnaire with Obama´s handwriting and notes was not, in fact, answered by him. I´d love to use that excuse on college exams that I wasn´t happy with.

Burton is a flat-out, in-your-face, lying, scum-bag.

OBonzo’s voting record on guns, and gun-bans, is well documented.

He’s never seen an anti-gun bill he didn’t like.

franksalterego on September 24, 2008 at 2:00 PM

Pay attention to how leftists lie.

Obama has ever supported a gun ban?

“It’s been reported on time and time again.”

“You know, I’ve said that, this has been well reported.”

I’m convinced there are consultants who specialize in teaching surrogates like this guy how to lie effectively.

This pattern sounds just like the Clinton pattern. When Hillary was asked about the Rose Law Firm, she would never answer the question, she would refer to her previous answers.

“You know, I’ve, ah, said many times in the past the answer is no.”

An answer structured this way has the appearance of the subject putting his reputation on the line and committing to the truth. And indeed it is the truth, Hillary DID deny it many times in the past, which has nothing to do with whether it was a LIE.

Russian man goes up to the KGB agent, says “I don’t believe what I read in PRAVDA today, do you have proof?”

KGB agent pulls out another copy of PRAVDA, says, “here is your proof.”

THAT’s how marxists lie.

tee866 on September 24, 2008 at 2:12 PM

Megyn sets him up. However, he wastes enough time so that she cannot complete the deal. He knows there are time limits for each segment, and his job is to eat up as much time as he can (notice how liberals just keep talking even when they can’t be heard.) What counts is that the conservatives/truth can not be heard. They do not want a discussion or debate (they lose every time and they know it) just an appearance where they can prevent the truth from being heard. She leads him step by step, knowing his responses, then shoots them down as he comes up with each new excuse. He ultimately blames Obama’s staff AND Obama’s lack of thoroughness in checking his own positions on the questionaire. He wants us to accept Obama’s incompetence rather than the facts which point to Obama’s support of a ban on handguns.

Every poll has different methodology. Likely voters? Registered voters? Was the sample “weighted” to “fairly represent” the “real” mix of republicans and democrats?

Don’t make too much of any individual poll.

jeff_from_mpls on September 24, 2008 at 2:24 PM

And Chicago handgun ban. He’s two for two.

IrishEyes on September 24, 2008 at 2:18 PM

Yep. I just love to concentrate on his DC gun ban position because of the ridiculously idiotic stance he tried to take after the SCOTUS decision. I just imagined that Megyn would have honed in on that since B Hussein’s remarks after that decision showed such a total lack of understanding of the Constitution (B Hussein’s alleged “expertise”) that it should have made any lawyer puke. It was also interesting how Hussein tried to maintain both sides of the issue on that.

I just can’t believe anyone with a half a brain even takes BHO seriously. The guy is a joke on so many different levels … and just dangerous on most of the rest.
