Pakistani president to Palin: You’re hot

posted at 5:47 pm on September 24, 2008 by Allahpundit

I guess the meeting went well.

On entering a room filled with several Pakistani officials this afternoon, Palin was immediately greeted by Sherry Rehman, the country’s Information Minister.

“And how does one keep looking that good when one is that busy?,” Rehman asked, drawing friendly laughter from the room when she complimented Palin.

“Oh, thank you,” Palin said.

Pakistan’s recently-elected president, Asif Ali Zardari, entered the room seconds later. Palin rose to shake his hand, saying she was “honored” to meet him.

Zardari then called her “gorgeous” and said: “Now I know why the whole of America is crazy about you.”

“You are so nice,” Palin said, smiling. “Thank you.”

A handler from Zardari’s entourage then told the two politicians to keep shaking hands for the cameras.

“If he’s insisting, I might hug,” Zardari said. Palin smiled politely.

How many women can boast of being hit on by a guy who spent yesterday warning her country’s military to stay out of his way? Ah well. After the hard day she’s had with her son shipping out and being damned with faint praise by prominent Republicans, any compliment is a nice compliment.

Consider this your open thread for the Couric interview. 6:30 ET on CBS.

Update: I’m remiss in not linking the boss’s post this morning on the Jann Wenner offensive against Palin. How bad is it? This bad:

Palin is a symbol of everything that is wrong with the modern United States. As a representative of our political system, she’s a new low in reptilian villainy, the ultimate cynical masterwork of puppeteers like Karl Rove. But more than that, she is a horrifying symbol of how little we ask for in return for the total surrender of our political power. Not only is Sarah Palin a fraud, she’s the tawdriest, most half-assed fraud imaginable, 20 floors below the lowest common denominator, a character too dumb even for daytime TV — and this country is going to eat her up, cheering her every step of the way. All because most Americans no longer have the base energy to do anything but lie back and allow ourselves to be jacked off by the calculating thieves who run this grasping consumer paradise we call a nation…

…She appeared to be completely without shame and utterly full of shit, awing a room full of hardened reporters with her sickly-sweet line about the high-school-flame-turned-hubby who “five children later,” is “still my guy.” It was like watching Gidget address the Reichstag.

Read the whole post, as it ends with a dynamite exit question.

If not for Todd, I might wonder aloud how far she’d have to go to have Zardari ignore military incursions into Pakistan. That might be morally iffy, but, hey, country first.

Mikheil Saakashvili was on Cavuto today talking about meeting her. He was extremely gracious. When asked about her foreign policy experience, he responded by referring to Reagan and how Reagan was responsible for his country’s freedom. Unbelievable. It was extremely complementary.

amerpundit on September 24, 2008 at 5:59 PM

You see how Charlie Gibson’s badgering Palin about her never meeting with heads of state and lacking foreign policy experience seems so distant and silly now? She’s had her first intelligence briefing, she’s making her U.N. rounds and will continue with such things almost nonstop for at least the next four years. The libs and MSM know this, but insist on playing their little games.

The question is, does Joe USA, see through the nonsense?

Re Jann Wenner: This is it, isn’t it? It’s not her views or qualifications; it’s her very being.

It’s one thing to go after the political persona, if you will, of a public official or candidate. Anything pretty much is acceptable. But it’s another to go after that candidate’s non-political or personal being.

I can say Barbara Boxer is a dolt. That’s attacking her as a public figure, as a Senator. But if I said Boxer’s life is a fraud, her religious views are bankrupt, her heritage is a lie, her family is a joke, that is something different.

This, this latter attack, is pure ugliness and shocking.

SteveMG on September 24, 2008 at 6:08 PM

She’s a Good Woman: strong and smart and loyal and capable

That drives leftards crazy, which is the other reason I admire her so much. She was a good choice for VP, for many reasons, and may well be the reason that McCain wins

Obviously the entire financial meltdown is a Karl Rove plot to distract us from the interview. He was encouraging the Democratic Congress to look the other way on the entire sub-prime mortgage mess as it was occuring. Poor Chris Dodd and Barney Frank are merely pawns in this Rovian scheme to keep people from watching the interview!

Karl, you magnificant bastard!

McCain better get her in front of the cameras quick and often. He’s blowing his campaign by the minute. His BS tactic about backing out of the debate is hurting him bigtime. He needs to get in the ring and put the smackdown on teleprompter boy.

roninacreage on September 24, 2008 at 6:15 PM

Governor Palin has almost no foreign policy experience. So, I say elect her so she can get some. Problem solved.

But Jann is not:

YOU ARE AN ASS.

Um, McCain’s told worse jokes, and he was running for office. So has almost any man or woman. Or maybe you somehow think I was being serious, rather than mocking Mr. Zardari’s rude behavior. (You don’t compliment a politician by telling her that people like her for her looks, in case you don’t get the point. Anyone who would say that deserves to be mocked with the implication that he’d sell out his country for sexual favors. Note that I did not say that Palin would be willing to delve into such tawdry behavior.)

Anyway, my exit question is in response to:

She appeared to be completely without shame and utterly full of shit, awing a room full of hardened reporters

It was a terrible interview. Seemed like a hack edit, ala Gibson, but Palin started off with this quiver in her voice (the outside scenes) and stammered a lot.

I was pretty much shocked. I’m just hoping this is an effort to “lower expectations.”

KC doesn’t get it. She kept pressing Sarah on McCain not pushing for more government regulation besides 2 years ago when he wanted to reign in Freddi and Fannie. McCain is a republican, so therefore he would be for less government.

but you didn’t sound too keen on voting (R) in your comments over at bigtentdemocrats posts.

I didn’t get to see the interview, but why don’t they insist on the interview being aired unedited?

Because they laid down the banhammer there for supporting McCain-Palin. Gotta do what ya gotta do. And I was banned just for defending Palin on the more ridiculous stuff, albeit repeatedly, without saying I’m voting the way I am. We’re all double-agents.

As for the interview: Why would they? By clipping the interview, they make it that much easier for YouTubers and the Daily Show to get the “GOTCHA!” bits, since that’s all they’ll show. Infotainment.

I mean, there wasn’t even an introduction aired between Couric and Palin!

Bill O’Reilly himself treated both Hillary Clinton AND Barack Obama better than this.

No, because it didn’t give us any insight into Sarah Palin. It was “Defend McCain here! Defend McCain there! Tell me all about John McCain!”

You know — people should listen when she says she’s a Washington outsider. She’s not going to be entrenched in “Mac”-ademia.

She should have hit harder on the only question that would have involved her: moratorium on mortgages (Hillary’s position).

But nah. Not worth a look.

Benjamin9 on September 24, 2008 at 7:21 PM

I didn’t see the interview but I read the excerpts on the CBS site. I think she was stuck because McCain has fought for plenty of regulation in his career, just not things that any conservative wants to hear about – campaign finance regulation, comprehensive immigration reform regulation, global warming cap and trade regulation, etc., etc.

Good thing this got buried in McCain’s campaign suspension hubub.

Dudley Smith on September 24, 2008 at 8:02 PM

Todd needs to show up there and give them a nice handshake that of course breaks 2-3 bones in their hands.

God I love Sarah. I hope McCain wins cause I will so much enjoy watching her grow as VP and see if she gets in the thick of things in 2012. Also, I would love to see Trig grow up in front of us on TV and be a constant reminder that it isn’t about us but others.
