Campbell Brown: McCain’s a sexist for keeping Palin hidden away from the media

posted at 10:18 am on September 24, 2008 by Allahpundit

I can’t tell if she’s serious or just having fun with the campaign by slyly turning their bad-faith accusations of sexism (in her opinion) around on them. She seems serious, but she also usually seems rational, which means she can’t possibly believe that it’s Palin’s delicate femininity and not her greenness on national policy that has Team Maverick eager to keep her away from press ambushes. Not even the nutroots, as far as I’ve seen, has spun the media brownout that stupidly and/or disingenuously.

But since she wants a debate about sexism, what’s with the assumption here about Palin being locked away against her will like Rapunzel in some campaign tower? Absent any evidence to the contrary, we can only assume she’s chosen to go along with this approach. You’re pro-choice, Campbell, aren’t you?

“Sexist treatment of Sarah Palin”

So, no complainsts against your media pals for unequal treatment of the two VP candidates?

jgapinoy on September 24, 2008 at 10:24 AM

Campbell has great writers!!

She read that off the teleprompter without one mistake!!

We know it has to be just that because that is how the media treated Sarah after her speech and how they have eviscerated her since then!!

120pages on September 24, 2008 at 10:25 AM

Why would Sara Palin want to talk or even be in the same room with the wolves who spent 2 weeks trying to take her down? When has Campbell Brown ever been unbiased and fair in reporting on Palin? When you have a target on your back, why would to go to a shooting range?

flytier on September 24, 2008 at 10:26 AM

Why? Sarah is not here to befriend the press.

The press has been slinging mud and lies at her from the get go.

Again, Campbell Brown is jealous that Sarah Palin can already zip her jeans.

ctmom on September 24, 2008 at 10:26 AM

I have a hunch that they’re keeping her under wraps until the debate in order to keep Gaffetastic Joe out of ammo.

Sarah wants to communicate directly with the American people without the filter and perspective of the MMSM.
MMSM = Marxist Main Stream Media.

John McCain (and his minions) are IDIOTS for not letting Sarah-be-Sarah.

Turn Sarah Palin loose, you idiot McCain.

This election has NEVER BEEN ABOUT McCAIN – it was about Obama – then it was about Palin.

McCain is stupid to tie her down – he’s blowing it – and the polls show it.

When Sarah was out there – he was moving up – now he holds her down and the polls are dropping.

John McCain finished 5th from the bottom of his class at Annapolis – and now we see why.

McCain is still a dunce.

I really think it is time to cut the country in half,, give the left coast to the libs, socialists, Marxists and all the other nuts,, conservatives can take the right side. Or,, cut it any way you want to. After 35-50 years or so,, after they have aborted, regulated, stupefied themselves out of existence,, we can just move back in, take down the Obama statues and paintings, sweep up the mess and start over.

This has got to be a sarcastic report, a joke…no one is this stupid.
FREE SARAH PALIN, CHAUVINISTIC CHAINS…HAHAAHA, this has to be a joke, funny stuff.
Why do the commentators keep forgetting this memorable line from her acceptance speech? What don’t they understand about this simple but poignant statement?

But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion – I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country. Americans expect us to go to Washington for the right reasons, and not just to mingle with the right people.

This is a dumb play by the McCain campaign, even if MSM deserves it. They are letting her be portrayed as an idiot. I’m sure they are doing this to lower expectations at the VP debate but its still stupid.

wytammic on September 24, 2008 at 10:39 AM

It’s either sarcasm or a lame attempt to shift the sexism label from Obama to McCain. Since it came from CNN, I would assume it’s the latter. CNN isn’t really clever enough to do sarcasm.

“Well, Momma…what’ll we name our new little girl?”

“Let’s name her after soup.”

No longer content with reporting events…no longer content even with guiding events by the selective reporting of other events…now, we get to hear never-was reporters venting to us about how candidates ought to act while doing the things that their colleagues will lie about.

You go girl.

Ever think that the folks Gov. Palin will be asking to consult with might not have wanted to be a prop in a photo op, Campbell? Maybe the people of Ghana or Colombia or Lithuania or West Genocidia might not want their tribal chieftain used in a foreign presidential campaign?

Somebody slap Ms. Brown and, when she’s fully awake and at least partially over herself, inform her that she was hired to report the news…not elected….

And that is why you are posting and making $12,000 a year and he is a candidate for President. I am sure he is waiting just for your opinion.
Here is something for you to think about between your P&B sandwiches.
Don’t over expose Palin
Use her effectively the last 3 weeks of the campaign
Don’t let Biden or the opposition know all of her stances before the debate
Identify the states that are necessary to win the election and lazer her to those areas
Make sure she is focused on the debate
Remember her quote from campaign that I posted at 10:34
Keep reminding the press that she is there for the people, not the press
Scarcity makes a product more valuable
Play your trump card to win the game, not keep you in the game
Those are just a couple of reasons they keep her low key…if you call 50,000 fans at a forum low key.

Whatever… (Anybody seen Michelle Obama lately?)

Dubious Poll Conducted By Democrat Group With Michelle Obama On Its Board Says 83% of Americans are Dissatisfied With U.S. Foreign Policy
Here we have a textbook case in media bias. The Washington Post just essentially prints a release from a group called the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.

Americans expressed strong support for changes in U.S. foreign policy, with 83 percent saying it is “very important” to improve the standing of the United States in the world, according to a poll by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. Here are other findings:

· Majorities said the U.S. should be ready to talk to Cuba (70 percent), North Korea (68 percent) and Iran (65 percent).

· 67 percent call for a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq within two years.

· 68 percent say the U.S. should join the International Criminal Court to try war crimes and other grave offenses.
Gee, basically sounds like Barack Obama and the far left’s foreign policy wishes.

Now how convenient this story goes out worldwide without anyone bothering to question the source.
The survey comes as John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, and Barack Obama, his Democratic opponent, prepare to square up on Friday in the first presidential debate. The poll, conducted in July, suggests that most Americans think the US should talk to hostile states – a view more closely aligned with Mr Obama.
Now has any reporter even bothered to check out the Chicago Council on Global Affairs?

Of course not.

Why, look who sits on the board:
Michelle Obama
Vice President for Community and External Affairs, The University of Chicago Medical Center
Hmmm. Might it occur to anyone this poll is, um, maybe just a wee bit biased?

Shivas Irons on September 24, 2008 at 10:43 AM

Speedwagon82

If Palin had talked to the media, they would have twisted every word she said and painted her as something she’s not. The McCain team in turn would spend all their time refuting everything the media lied about. Half the country would believe the lies … just like people still believe she banned books, fired the trooper, and will want to force every woman in the solar system to have oodles of babies.

McCain is limiting the media’s access to Palin so there is less chance that she’ll expose herself as a know nothing johnny-come-lately candidate.

But it certainly isn’t sexist. Campbell’s an idiot.

Dave Rywall on September 24, 2008 at 10:49 AM

Never forget who’s Campbells’s father…

James Harvey “Jim” Brown, Jr. … In 1972, he was elected as a Democrat to the Louisiana state Senate, to which he served two terms. He was secretary of state from 1980-1988, and he ran unsuccessfully for governor in the 1987 jungle primary. He was elected insurance commissioner in 1991 and served until his resignation in October 2000. Brown’s political career closed with a six-month prison sentence for lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the status of an insurance company.

…why? What’ve they ever done for her? Why should she make it easy for them.

She walks out there and stands in front of a forest of microphones and speaks, the reporters are recharged with things to lie about. She remains silent, they have to make up things to lie about, and their efforts show them to be smart-alecks who aren’t very smart.

Let her come out once. Have her address the media in no more than a few well-chosen sentences:

“Good morning/afternoon/day/evening. It has come to my attention that you folks (<< good folksy touch) in the media don’t like it that I’ve not been as forthcoming as you would wish me to be during this campaign. I ask you: why should I? Why should I come out and give you free shots at me, when I’ve already seen what you do with them. You are reporters. You are supposed to dig for facts…and then report them. You are professionals, are you not. That is how you make your livings, is it not…off of the actions and words of other people?

“For that reason, I will continue in my efforts to see our party and our party’s ticket prevail in November, because the alternative I believe is grim. Therefore, you in the media can continue to grumble about my reticence where you are concerned. I haven’t got time for you. I will, however, be always and immediately available to the people of this country. Report what you overhear in my conversations with them. Why should I make it easy for you?

“Thank you. Now get to work!”

She’s liberal, that pretty much trumps everything in queston.

Enoxo on September 24, 2008 at 10:21 AM

Yeah, and that comment pretty much sums up the nonsensical state of affairs in Washington.

Seriously, to just write someone off in the sense is ridicules. We have a ‘conservative’ *laugh* in the White House, and ‘conservatives’ were running the House and Senate for quite some time. We’re in economic meltdown because of these supposed conservatives mainly because people drew lines in the sand and pulled the lever for Dubya in ’04 just because he wasn’t a ‘liberal’.

Here’s a newsflash…not every liberal is a carbon copy of Fidel Castro. Someone may be pro-choice, and by default is lumped in with the Cindy Sheehan’s and Hugo Chavez’s of this world. Some of these so-called liberals have been far more ‘conservative’ on economic policy than this administration ever was.

Grow up.

kkaneff79 on September 24, 2008 at 11:04 AM

TooTall on September 24, 2008 at 11:09 AM

Is she doing an Olberman impression?

DaveC on September 24, 2008 at 11:13 AM

There is a double standard, though not sexist. If Gov Palin had said FDR went on TV in 1929 to explain the market crash, she’d be DONE.

If Gov Palin says she campaigning in 57 states, with 2 to go, she’d be DONE.

If Gov Palin didn’t know which states border Alaska, (BO didn’t know KY borders IL) she’d be DONE.

She and Obama both gave the same answers re: Georgia, NATO, Russia and Israel. Only she got the headlines PALIN WILL GO TO WAR WITH RUSSIA!!!

McCain camp should take their own photographers to these events, and then post them online for us and anyone who wants to copy them. Give interviews to C-span like she has before, (and she was very good.)

Does anybody have a link to the transcript of Obama’s meetings in Europe this summer? I can’t find them. I’ve only seen the photo-op pics.

nyrofan on September 24, 2008 at 11:14 AM

She seems serious, but she also usually seems rational, which means she can’t possibly believe that it’s Palin’s delicate femininity and not her greenness on national policy that has Team Maverick eager to keep her away from press ambushes.

1) I will need some proof that Campbell Brown is rational.

2) It’s not her “greenness on national policy.” If that were the case, Kerry would have done the same thing with Edwards in ’04. It’s the overwhelming evidence that the media is not interested in reporting on her fairly. I know you’ve been following all this, AP. Don’t buy into their narrative.

That is for to laugh, troll. Here’s a reminder that I have yet to see you refute:

So what, exactly, has Sarah Palin accomplished up there in Alaska?

City councilwoman for 2 years
Mayor of Wasilla for 6 years
President of Alaska Conference of Mayors
Chair of Alaska Conservation Commission
Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission from which she resigned to expose corruption among members of her own party
Governor of a state with a $10 billion budget that produces 20% of our national energy – during which time she has replaced the entire Board of Agriculture and Conservation because of conflict of interest, passed a landmark ethics reform bill, used her veto power to cut budgetary spending and negotiated with Canada on the issue of the pipeline

Yet you say she’s a know-nothing Johnny-come-lately and therefore unqualified to be president. Oh wait…she’s running for the office of vice-president.

That said, let’s check out the impressive resume Obama has acquired over the years:

Saul Alinsky-inspired “community organizer” who worked closely with the corrupt ACORN group
Questionable ties to the corrupt Daley political machine and unrepentant domestic terrorist Bill Ayers
20 year-long membership in the church of an America-hating racist
Shady real estate transaction with Rezko – a convicted felon
Elected state senator in 1996 after using technicalities to clear the ballot of opponents
Served in the part-time state senator job for 7 years, voting ‘present’ over 140 times
Elected U.S. senator in 2004 after his opponent dropped out of the race and a carpetbagger ran against him
Received more money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in shortest period of time than any one else
Since 2006 has been actively campaigning for the presidency of the U.S.

And the PALIN candidacy is a joke?!

This guy isn’t even qualified to be the vice-president…but he’s running for president.

Your posts are a joke, Dave.

She’s questioning why the McCain camp is seemingly shielding this star of the GOP from the public. As I recall, there was a HUGE bounce in the polls after Palin was announced as the VP candidate. Don’t you all get it? Making press appearances will only HELP the McCain/Palin ticket!

Anyone who criticizes the McCain campaign is bad though, right? Give me a friggin’ break.

She’s complimenting Sarah Palin.

You can’t see it, but right now I’m holding up a compliment to you. It’s a compliment.

Having, eeeheem, “dated” Adel Al-Jubeir, Campbell should know a thing about sexism.

Cambell being snarky and vacuous at the same time. Exceeding expectations on both counts.

Can we please add amendments to the Constitution stating that the following statements shall cease immediately and forever?

1.) “one heartbeat away from the Presidency”.
2.) “on Wall Street and Main Street.”

carbon_footprint on September 24, 2008 at 12:08 PM

shudder, Campbell Brown is a hideous bitch. her treatment of the McCain spokesman and Lynn Forrester de Rothschild should have gotten her fired.

she is the perfect embodiment of the evil high school cheerleader

This whole meme that Palin is “hidden” is idiotic, and shame on any supposed conservative who picks it up. How many tough interviews has Obama endured? He’s at the top of the ticket. Palin is very busy travelling and studying for her debate, where you know the PBS moderator is going to do everything in her power to trip her up. Why the hell should she take time out of her schedule to talk to babbling buffoons like this horrible human being?

Katie Couric didn’t even know enough to ask Biden about his “Franklin Roosevelt in 1929 on TV” gaffe. Most of these MSM folks are boobs and/or enemies of our nation. It’s time to treat them as such.

It’s nowhere near 20%. More like 3.5%, Captain Internet. – Dave Rywall on September 24, 2008 at 11:45 AM

Perhaps you should dig deeper than the Huffo fever swamp for your data, Captain Douchebag.
Go here for reliable data.

In 2007 Alaska produced a total of 355,419 M bbls of crude. Production for the entire U.S. was 1,848,450 M bbls. Works out to 19.2% She was off by 8/10 of one percent.

moderated?

funky chicken on September 24, 2008 at 12:10 PM

oops, used the b word. let’s try again

Campbell Brown is a horrible, nasty human of the female gender. Sarah Palin is very busy with an amazing travel and speaking schedule, and is studying for her debate where the PBS moderator is going to do everything in her power to trip Palin up. Why on earth would she take time out of her busy schedule to speak to losers like Campbell Brown? Her treatment of Tucker Bounds (well, Tucker, the Alaska governor doesn’t make decisions about how the AL Nat’l Guard is outfitted. That’s Gen Petraeus’s job–ignorant, and extremely rude at the same time) and Lynn Forrester de Rothschild should have gotten her fired. She’s nothing but an extreme bully.

Katie Couric didn’t know enough to question Joe Biden about his FDR on TV in 1929 in response to the depression gaffe, and she’s a much better “journalist” than Campbell Brown. Let this idiot whine and pout that she isn’t getting the respect she believes she is due.

McCain/Palin is running against Obama/Biden and against the MSM. After reading years of griping that Bush rolls over for the MSM, it’s amazing to me to see “conservatives” moaning that McCain/Palin won’t give them what they want.

Perhaps Axelrod’s astroturfing has gone on longer than we thought this campaign season.

Brown is competing for Mainstream Media’s Biggest Jackass Award, but she’s got a ways to go to reach Olbermann.

drjohn on September 24, 2008 at 12:23 PM

Campbell needed to get this comment about Sarah’s failure to talk to the media in today so she wouldn’t have to say it on Thursday and then read a story off the teleprompter about Palin’s interview with Katie Couric.

jon1979 on September 24, 2008 at 12:35 PM

I agree that Palin would be a bigger asset if he can get her more airtime, but without those in the media who are clearly out to destroy her.

There are ways to do this.

McCain doesn’t know what a good thing he has. He will have to let her be Sarah and support his views/issues.

I actually think he will, especially if the VP debate is a tie or better for Palin.
