Video: NRA drops four new ads on Obama

Currently airing in Pennsylvania and coming soon to a swing state near you. They’re all worth watching but here’s the one that should get the most attention. I eagerly await the media’s decoding of these very conservative, very anti-Obama, and therefore per se very racist spots.
Exit question: Does Joe Biden approve this message?

Great ad, NRA.
peacenprosperity on September 22, 2008 at 5:18 PM
Before you buy the Beretta, Check out the Walther P99, or the PPS.
(I own a 92F)

Factoid:
The difference is between “accidental gun related deaths” and “gun related deaths”

I bought my wife a S&W Lady Smith’s 9mm. I don’t care what the name is: it kicks. I got it for her because if some Obama backer ever breaks into our house, she’ll only have to hit him once.
Was that a racist statement?
AubieJon on September 22, 2008 at 5:22 PM
Absolutely correct, nothing gets by you pros…

TheSitRep on September 22, 2008 at 5:23 PM
No, Philly is a waste of…it’s just a waste, I still say we sell it to Jersey. The goal of this ad campaign is to appeal to working class folks who live outside of Philly and in and around Pittsburgh. Many of them are gun owners and hunters and are only going to support Democrats up until the Dems get too eager to completely destroy their way of life with New Left nanny and social policy (financial benefits for failing industries you work in aren’t any good if all the stuff you’d spend it on becomes too expensive to do or banned). It is also to rally rural and small city folks too.
doubleplusundead on September 22, 2008 at 5:23 PM
It has guns in it. And a woman. Of course it’s racist.

Obama backers aren’t going to be breaking into your house, AubieJon. But firearms are a great hobby and make small holes in paper that get closer and closer with repeated practice.
wise_man on September 22, 2008 at 5:27 PM
*shrugs* … it’s how to properly display a flag.
wise_man on September 22, 2008 at 5:28 PM
The 92F is a great piece but look into getting a Glock 17 or a Sig 226. Many police forces are trading in barely used service pistols to get new issues with accessoriy rails. I just found a pile of never fired glocks in 9mm and .40 cal for $330 each.
Tony Soprano on September 22, 2008 at 5:29 PM
i disagree that this ad will get the most attention. the veteran ad will, i think.
venicesurfer on September 22, 2008 at 5:29 PM
Heh…say that to homeowners or buiness in LA, Philly and Detroit if Obama loses this election in a squeaker.
ManlyRash on September 22, 2008 at 5:29 PM
Where, Tony Soprano? That’s a pretty good price for someone’s first purchase. The only place I know to look for prices is here.
wise_man on September 22, 2008 at 5:31 PM
It says “Error: Invalid Feed”.
SoulGlo on September 22, 2008 at 5:31 PM
Is this playing in Virginia yet? Because gun-totin’ rednecks all over the Shenandoah Valley need to see their cousin getting his fifteen minutes in an NRA ad.
Spc Steve on September 22, 2008 at 5:32 PM
Uh… maybe a little…. but my husband bought me a Smith & Wesson M&P 340 – .357 revolver with a nifty laser site grip just in case we have the same problem.
tru2tx on September 22, 2008 at 5:32 PM
Walthers have a reputation for not being overly reliable. I’ve heard of more than a few owners describe them as “jam-o-matics”.
The Beretta is big and heavy, but they’re extremely reliable. I’ve put thousands of rounds through my Taurus PT99 (Beretta 92 clone) and I can count the number of malfunctions on one hand without using my thumb. That includes +P ammo, cheap aluminum case ammo and handloads that burn dirty.
Hollowpoint on September 22, 2008 at 5:33 PM
Im actually getting the 92F for free, just have to wait for my license to go through.
I’ll be using a 357 Police Special. Can you say, rocket cannon? Crikey.
Lincoln on September 22, 2008 at 5:33 PM
Certainly the McCain campaign is bitter and clinging to their ads about guns and religion…
Scrappy on September 22, 2008 at 5:34 PM
Did you get that on the NRA page, (Click “Watch our latest ads) or on the top of this page, SoulGlo?
wise_man on September 22, 2008 at 5:34 PM
Whoops, I meant I’ll be using a a 357 in addition to the 92F.
For some reason the Beretta 92 has always been my favorite firearm. That’s why I spat when Biden mentioned owning one. Pffftttt…
Lincoln on September 22, 2008 at 5:36 PM
Does she plan on asking the political affiliation of an intruder before shooting them?
Watch it, folks- with so many accusations of racism made by Obama’s supporters, we don’t need to be giving them examples even if they’re “borderline”. If you think it might be considered racist, don’t post it.
Hollowpoint on September 22, 2008 at 5:38 PM
I was just commenting on the fact that the demo in NC is changing rapidly and what you see as being a typical North Carolinian is being replaced by a Starbucks drinking, Prius driving, Whale saving, Red Sox rooting, Krugman reading, Obama voting Northeastern liberal.
malan89 on September 22, 2008 at 5:38 PM
wise_man,
It was on gun broker. They were property of Plains GA PD.
Just keep your eyes open. PD’s are flooding the market with first and second gen. glocks and sigs before years end so many dealers will have these. Mine even had meprolite sights.
Tony Soprano on September 22, 2008 at 5:39 PM
I hope the McCain camp or one of these 527 groups can get the rights to use that photo of Obama in shirtsleeves with the cigarette hanging out of his mouth. He looks like a thug in that photo.
AZCoyote on September 22, 2008 at 5:39 PM
I had a nickle PT99 I put over 5000 rds through and sold it for what I bought it for. Never.Jammed.Once!
Tony Soprano on September 22, 2008 at 5:41 PM
I may well stand corrected then. Thank you.
Well now, thats even better than $330. My Beretta was about twice that. I’ve never had a feeding problem either (a HUGE cut out of the slide may have something to do with that :) ) but the grip is a little uncomfortable. The newer models have different sized grip inserts that you can use to customize for the best fit. And as Tony Soprano said, sometimes accessory rails are good to have. Flashlight, laser, whatever. If you are going to keep one in your home, it’s a really good idea to keep it in a safe that can be opened quickly, and also have a very strong flashlight to carry, point with.Helps to see what you are investigating in a dark house, and also blinds the person who is the uninvited guest.

Good, hard-hitting ads. It wouldn’t hurt them to do one featuring a black gun-owner, too.
MrLynn on September 22, 2008 at 5:46 PM
Point taken. My family were all raised here with the traditional country values and I am teaching those values to my child as well. Some areas may be changing but me and mine hopefully will not. No offense intended in the reply.

Sorry. I had to do it.
:-)
csdeven on September 22, 2008 at 5:46 PM
Gotta hand it to McCain’s campaign though – they’ve turned an intended criticism into a proud rallying cry for their base. I’ve seen more “Bitter Clinger” paraphernelia (sp?) among my friends and neighbors than just about anything political save O-stickers in the parking lot.

I am glad that the NRA has joined this epic battle.

Seixon on September 22, 2008 at 5:52 PM
Most likely he’s talking about their shotguns.
wise_man on September 22, 2008 at 5:52 PM
Well, let’s see: there were all white people in the ad, shot in color, and then the image of BO in black and white. I’m searching for my Mysto-Matic decoder to see if I can find any more hidden messages – shades of Ralphie a la A Christmas Story.
Over30 on September 22, 2008 at 5:56 PM
Thanks for the advice! I was thinking of sleeping with it instead but that’s probably not a good idea for a first time owner, so I’ll opt for the safe. =D LOL
Lincoln on September 22, 2008 at 5:56 PM
factoid and grue,
I believe his numbers are accidental deaths by firearms.
Doctors don’t kill people unless it is an accident, so it makes sense that he was comparing accidental deaths.
From the CDC.

zmrzlina on September 22, 2008 at 6:05 PM
It’s too bad that McCain, McCain/Feingold would like to do away with this type of advertising!! Is that wise and is that the kind of President that we need? I’m voting Palin, but unfortunately I have to vote for McCain.
flytier on September 22, 2008 at 6:08 PM
If you have a gun at home hidden in the bedroom, it’s just waiting there for someone to take it while you are away at work. A safe that can be bolted to wood, such as in a closet and then opened quickly without fumbling will let you quick access and keep it safe. A small tap light can be mounted nearby so you don’t have to hold a flashlight to open it. Can’t emphasize carrying a strong flashlight with the firearm enough. You don’t want to make a mistake in the dark, and you can decide when to aim it at someone’s eyes if they are sneaking around your house. The whole point is to get them to stop and you can do this without firing a shot. (and that’s often best, anyway. Intimidate the crap out of them, but know what you are doing first.) Some safes are also fire resistant. My firearm training was the military, and I belonged to a gun club for many years after I was out – but please please please take some sort of course if you can. Get as much information about safety and proper use. Accidents can happen. Just wanted to mention this for any first time owner. If the whole self defense is the plan, in addition to target practice at a good indoor range.

turfmann on September 22, 2008 at 6:13 PM
527’s don’t have a problem as long as the follow the rules and abide by contribution limits, source prohibitions and disclosure requirements so they don’t get fined. It’s not that hard. And your claim of “do away with this type of advertising” is of course a lie.
wise_man on September 22, 2008 at 6:13 PM
I recommend MagLight – durable, long-lived, and doubles as an impromptu mace if the need arises.

wise_man on September 22, 2008 at 6:13 PM
527 were included in the original bill and didn’t make it to the final cut. The reason that NRA had to start their own web and tv channel was because they were prohibited from buying their informational commercials that they used to buy.
flytier on September 22, 2008 at 6:15 PM
Turf…Massachusetts is so blue, it’s almost, well, don’t want to get in trouble. I feel for you. Went to visit your fine state and had to walk around with a barf bag.

That ad made me feel good. I’m not a member of the NRA but that will change……soon.
FireBlogger on September 22, 2008 at 6:17 PM
Make sure you hold at the base of the flashlight head, and swing the tail cap end. Yes, a 4D cell Maglight would work fine for that. For the handheld method I linked above, something more like this would work quite well.
But I would defer to your opinion on lights. Being that you are a Grue and all.
wise_man on September 22, 2008 at 6:21 PM
The NRA is a great organization, but you’ll tire at their repeated requests for donations after a while.

Obama is an arrogant POS – I honestly don’t think he has a clue as to the nerve he struck when he made that comment in San Fran. Good ads by the NRA, time to go after this pansy-a$$ of a fraud.
dugan on September 22, 2008 at 7:15 PM
I am an ex-Canadian naturalized US citizen. I just bought a beautiful new handgun, Para Ordnance Nitehawk .45.
This gun was made in Canada, In Toronto, the epicenter of the liberal anti-freedom-gun mindset.
How deliciously ironic that I can own and possess this powerful symbol of freedom, crafted from the hands of people who cannot.
God Bless America and the NRA!
epluribusunum on September 22, 2008 at 7:33 PM
Funny, every week I get a bunch of mail saying to buy my groceries at several different food stores, and a bunch to buy my toothpaste at several drug stores, and then the department stores, it never seems to bother me.
So I guess once a month from the NRA is tolerable.
right2bright on September 22, 2008 at 7:35 PM
Ahem…it’s actually sister, not bro…but anyhow, I found this when I googled flag etiquette. When you hang a flag vertically from a building, the blue field is on the top left.
Hang the flag vertically in a window or draped over a building, with the field of stars to the left of anyone looking at it from the street.

You remind me of the fellow who was treated for sex addiction. When shown pictures of things like houses, cars and rocks he responds that they remind him of sex.
When the doctor explains that the poor fellow is obsessed with sex, he responds “Well you’re the one showing me all the dirty pictures.”

SaintOlaf on September 22, 2008 at 9:02 PM
OK, in case it hasn’t been said…
This is why Obama is NOT going to win Virginia. Virginia is a heavily gun-rights focused commonwealth (even in the DC suburbs to an extent!) and if the NRA keeps hammering away at Obama, he might as well give up on VA.
Know why Mark Warner won (and will win) in Virginia? NRA endorsement.

From your lips to God’s ears. If VA is in the bag for Mac, he needs only to turn his heavy guns on PA and this election is his.
