A-yup! Obama said McCain’s campaign has been racist (a lie). McCain said Obama supported teaching comprehensive sex education to kindergarteners (a lie). I say calling either one out for dishonest campaigning is fair game at this point.

That wasn’t even funny. In order to be humorous it needs some elements of truth in it.

Sorry, but there was an element of truth, specifically that McCain, formerly a relatively distinguished campaigner, has come out with some ads that he shouldn’t have. Allah noticed this, calling him out on ads that were unfair, just as Obama has been called out for his campaign’s abuses of truth. The skit wasn’t a laugh riot, but it was better than 99% of the stuff they have on that show (as witnessed by the skits that followed). Was it offensive? Sure, but that’s what the kiddies want. Considering that South Park and Team America are the most quoted contemporary works in the comments, I doubt we’d mind if the shoe were on the other foot. (Then again, it would be nice if it were on both feet with equal regularity.) Most of those who have their mind changed by a Saturday Night Live skit probably won’t remember to vote anyway.

Also, Al Franken should be allowed to pursue his career. And Norm Coleman should be allowed to point out to voters that maybe such a career is not the best preparation for the Senate.

My (formerly Democratic) wife and I were disgusted. Apparently nothing is out of bounds to them, unless you are talking about them.

And yeah, if McCain wins, I expect riots and lawsuits from this bunch of lefty idiots.

No, wait, I mean the skit was lame, stupid and out of touch.

And watching Manhattan liberals sneering over the Saracuda’s experience never gets old, either.

Look, the Tina Fey sketch last week, whilst also deeply flawed (the press has gone too easy on Sarah? Really?), made me laugh so hard I’ve watched it multiple times.

This one didn’t even make me crack a smile, and there’s no reason whatsoever to watch it a second time.

Epic fail.

Since I’m pretty sure no one watches SNL I’m really not worried.

Keep telling yourself that. SNL (or Tina Fey, pretty much) single-handedly altered the character of the Democratic primary, but just a bit late for Clinton to recover.

Exit question: Which lines specifically, do you suppose, did Al Franken contribute?

I think NBC and Franken need to be investigated by the FEC for possible violations of election laws. The only reason I can think of for a candidate for federal office (Franken) to write comedy sketches attacking another candidate for federal office of another party (McCain) is because you are trying to coordinate a campaign message. Any of SNL’s comedy writers would have been able to put together a sketch that picked on McCain. But, it would take a Democratic operative to know how exactly to pick on him (i.e. what issues or memes to emphasize) to inflict the most electoral damage on him and/or to assist Obama the most.

NBC uber-crossed the line here and I think there needs to be an investigation and constant attacks by Republicans against the media for this kind of bias. It is truly outrageous.
