Rush: Obama using segregationist tactics; Update & bump: AOL Hot Seat Poll

Barack Obama miscalculated when he took Rush Limbaugh out of context for a Spanish-language ad that attempted to paint John McCain as a racist, for about the sixth time in this campaign. Not only was the ad completely and transparently dishonest — McCain and Limbaugh are far apart on immigration policy — but it used lines from a parody about immigration policy so far out of context as to make Obama a liar. Rush, never one to suffer fools or idiotic attacks lightly, has taken his argument to the Wall Street Journal to accuse Obama of exploiting racial tensions as a campaign tactic to get himself elected:
Mr. Obama’s campaign is now trafficking in prejudice of its own making. And in doing so, it is playing with political dynamite. What kind of potential president would let his campaign knowingly extract two incomplete, out-of-context lines from two radio parodies and build a framework of hate around them in order to exploit racial tensions? The segregationists of the 1950s and 1960s were famous for such vile fear-mongering. …
Much of the media that is uninterested in Mr. Obama’s connections to unrepentant 1970s Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Wright have so far gone along with the attempt to tie me to Mr. McCain. But Mr. McCain and I have not agreed on how to address illegal immigration. While I am heartened by his willingness to start by securing the borders, it is no secret that we have fundamental differences on illegal immigration.
And more to the point, these sound bites are a deception, and Mr. Obama knows it. The first sound bite was extracted from a 1993 humorous monologue poking fun at the arguments against the North American Free Trade Agreement. …
The malignant aspect of this is that Mr. Obama and his advisers know exactly what they are doing. They had to listen to both monologues or read the transcripts. They then had to pick the particular excerpts they used in order to create a commercial of distortions. Their hoped-for result is to inflame racial tensions. In doing this, Mr. Obama and his advisers have demonstrated a pernicious contempt for American society.
We’ve made much racial progress in this country. Any candidate who employs the tactics of the old segregationists is unworthy of the presidency.
Obama may have run as a post-racial candidate in the Democratic primaries, but he has shown a completely different side in the general election. Ever since winning the nomination, Obama and his campaign surrogates (and the media) have accused Republicans of racism for their opposition to The One. It has been a constant theme for Team Obama, even though they cannot produce a single shred of evidence in support of this smear campaign.
Rush finally states what the national media has been too cowardly to report: that Obama has a strategy to inject race into this campaign in order to silence criticism, and that he’s willing to lie to do it. It hasn’t been exactly a secret, as the long list of links above will show. He uses language in the general election that he never dared used in the primaries, about not looking like other presidents on the currency, having a “funny name”, or in some cases explicitly referring to the color of his skin — and accusing Republicans and the McCain campaign of a “campaign of fear” based on it. (The irony, of course, is that the Hillary Clinton campaign actually did do something along these lines by releasing the picture of Obama wearing traditional tribal dress on a visit to Africa, a point that no one bothers to mention now.)
The national media just got done clucking their tongues and wagging their fingers at McCain over an ad they claimed was a lie, when in fact it turned out to be true. Not once in this entire campaign have the media taken Obama to task for his strategy of lying to stoke racial tensions in this campaign. Only blogs at ABC and the Washington Post have even raised the question, while the AP or the Miami Herald busily buries the evidence of it through editing tricks. If Rush makes this a national story, perhaps the media will finally take stock in which campaign has run the dirtiest attacks — a smear campaign worthy of Joe McCarthy.
Update and bump, 9/21: This is today’s AOL Hot Seat Poll question:
Even before this got posted here at Hot Air, 60% of respondents from AOL agreed that Obama is deliberately using accusations of racism to silence his critics.

Go Rush. I am Hispanic and I am disgusted by the tactics of Obama. What he is doing is claiming that since he is a minority that I should automatically vote for him. The only party that sees people for their sex, religion, race, and social class is the democrat party. Those are the same tactics communists use against their own people.
I am glad I am in a party that is inclusive and strives for people to be their best.

Obama is about to find out what many others have also learned the hard way; don’t on take Rush Limbaugh!!!! If Obama were to debate Limbaugh head on, face to face, live in front of the world, Obama would be exposed as an empty suit little spoiled brat boy with little “thinking on his feet” abilities. Obama would be exposed as the radical Liberal Socialist that he is. Obama would stumble and stutter through the entire debate, and would be forced to cry racist with every reply, as Limbaugh would deliver facts in the way of Obama’s own words (history) as evidence.
Hopefully, McCain & Palin can also expose this rat during the upcoming debates.

This racial meme has become so transparent and preditable that I don’t think that it is fooling a large part of the voting public any longer.
Continued use of this tactic, by the Obama campaign, can only assure that the ‘Bradly Effect’ will balloon to double digits on November 4th.

Obama must have missed the point that Rush claims that his talent “is on loan from God”. Obama, on the other hand, thinks that he is a god, perhaps descended from Mount Olympus.
With his steel-trap mind and verbal acuity, Rush rocks with wit and mental marksmanship.
Obama’s racist tripe is inflammatorily divisive and quite tiresome in its predictability. Gee, Obama, when you don’t have any substance, be sure to “distract” with ad hominems.

That’s right. I’M A BRAT. Obama is not a brat.
Until his “lipstick on a pig” comment, I could actually listen to him in small doses just as an attempt to soak up the historical nature of his candidacy. After he said that, and the way he said it, he disgusted me.
Now after this ad, he is totally repulsive to me.

Obama is worse than a fraud- he is a thug of the first order.
The scary part is that the MSM, in their sick desire to assuage their white guilt and hatred of the GOP, is willing to be an active participant by gatekeeping news like this smear.
The lines have been crossed.
jjshaka on September 19, 2008 at 8:39 AM
Obama only cares about achieving his own personal ambition to be president. Nothing else matters to him. He is willing to lie, cheat, distort, inflame racial tensions, inflame class tensions . . . whatever it takes. He will tear this country apart if that’s what it takes. His lust for power and prestige must be satisfied at all costs.
Obama is unfit to be president.

Obama’s Marxist aim in not merely to show contempt, but to absolutely destroy American civility via incivility on all counts, all places, everywhere.
Obama’s rant about America the downright mean place to live is exactly what he wants to change us into being, leaving NO REFUGE where sanity prevails.
As though his high taxes and theft of our liberty isn’t enough, he will not tolerate civility!
maverick muse on September 19, 2008 at 8:40 AM
This may be the Dan Rather moment of this campaign.
Any commentator on any network of any political stripe could have their words twisted and used in an inflammatory ad like this. Will they realize it and come to Rush’s defense here? Think about all the hate that has come out of Keith Olbermann’s mouth. Why should the RNC not now make an ad that picks out half of a sentence to “show” that Olbermann and his “pal” Barack Obama are sexist pigs who hate women? I’m sure THAT would get some attention from the Richard Cohens of the world!
rockmom on September 19, 2008 at 8:42 AM
HELL NO, and I’m not playing that game either. I would be delighted to vote for an honest, experienced, capable African American for President or any other public office. I happen to think it would be wonderful for America to elect an African American. But not this one. He’s Al Capone with a tan.

Exactly right Yoop… The Obama campaign has revealed racism in America the likes of which I have never seen in my life time, and I’m 54 (been around a while). I had no idea that hatred of the white person was being preached from podiums in black churches across America; I had no idea that the “whitey” was to blame for the AIDS virus and injected into Africa in an effort to wipe the planet of the black race; I had no idea that 95% of black Americans would use their voting power to elect a black man/woman simply because they are a brother/sister; I had no idea that black Americans are running around saying “this is our time whitey’s, you had your time.”

The daughters of Rosalyn Carter and Hillary Clinton endured the rigors of puberty sheltered from the press. Amy Lynn Carter and Chelsea Clinton have continued to enjoy private lives unadulterated by an intrusive press, regardless that they were activists in public or public surrogates for politicians.
In stark contrast, no courtesy is granted the Palin family. In fact, the press actively pursue felony activities AGAINST the Palin children, refusing to adhere to the law, let alone civic duty to leave children out of the limelight.

Actually, his comment on McNabb was 100% accurate. I watched the Cowboys/Eagles game last Monday night, and after the game it was wall to wall McNabb. “He’s so great…what a great game he had…” At one point Steve Young said let’s not forget about Romo, who not only HAD A BETTER GAME but also WON THE GAME!

“if he really wants to start something”
I wasn’t aware Rush was running for President.
Obama clearly lied here and all of the evidence is there.
What some guy says on a talk show is irrelevant, for the most part. Rush isn’t in a position to tell Americans what to do.
Obama is. And once again, Obama has revealed himself to be an amoral liar of average intelligence, an enormous ego and whose single virtue is also a curse – overwhelming ambition.
Which is exactly why Obama finds it convenient to lie so much.
Obama is the black Bill Clinton, except without Clinton’s political skills. Both are overcompensating for their daddy ditching them and both should have gone to therapy rather than attempting to use the Presidency to heal themselves.

In my opinion this is classic projection on the part of the Obama campaign, projection which many of us understand is common on the left. By projection I mean they accuse others of what they do or would like to do. “John McCain and his Republican friends have two faces. One that says lies just to get our vote”. Isn’t that what Obama is doing in the ad? Telling lies to get votes? What kind of mindset does it take to employ projection? You must be very wrapped up in your own attitudes and sensitivities. You can’t respect another view, in fact, you can’t even comprehend others have their own views. In short, they have the mindset of much of the left.

The 800 pound elephant in the voting booth of this race is that a dirty unspoken secret is being played on “basically decent” people. If 98% of white people polled for McCain heads would explode, cities would burn. Yet when 98% of blacks poll for Yobama everyone nods with polite understanding.
Barak Hussein Obama, his hate filled racist mentors, his hate filled racist pastor, his hate filled terrorist freinds, his angry unappreciative America hating wife, and his middle eastern criminal financeiers have mainstreamed this type of thinking and made it not only acceptable but hip.
