Guys and gals,

Even if the 536 people in Washington started making COMPLETELY RIGHT decisions today, it's nearly too late to fix this problem.

And they won't.

Atlas Shrugged is upon us.

<blockquote>They’re not going to fix this, no matter how sensible Gingrich’s suggestions are. They’re going to make it much worse. Brace yourselves.

Agreed. They will seize on the crisis to hold us hostage to their redistributive demands and advance their transformative agenda. Toward the end of this week, folks will see Congress becoming loaded up with poison pills. and markets will start unraveling again. I think we can count on it.

With a FDR-like restructuring being imminent, I cannot imagine a worse time to have a radical leftist President and a Congress led by the likes of Reid and Pelosi.

<blockquote>the question is: If Obama continues to sink in the polls will the Media turn on him to save themselves. IT is what liberals do. - unseen on September 22, 2008 at 2:43 AM</blockquote>

Perhaps the single most pointed question raised in these discussions and an excellent one.

On the one hand, the Drive-Bys have invested so much into the Obama campaign - to the point where they are obviously in the tank for him and equally obviously, don't seem to mind all that much if flyover America notices.

On the other hand, the members of the Drive-By media share a liberal mindset, which means they are fickle, vindictive and narcissistic. In the past they have turned on chosen favorites who disappointed them, and, like a school of journalistic piranha, devoured the candidates in public feeding frenzies.

I guess the answer will lie in just how far in the polls Obama falls.

If he stays neck-and-neck with McCain, I expect the Drive-Bys will continue their Herculean effort to suppress the negative and accentuate the positive in the expectation that after he is elected he will revive the Fairness Doctrine.

However, if a seismic event occurs that triggers a sea change in public opinion and his poll numbers begin to plummet - if he should be exposed, beyond doubt, for the fraud he is and his defeat in November appears inevitable -my gut tells me the Drive-Bys will eviscerate him in a last-minute effort to redeem their credibility

I could be mistaken. Anyone else want to hazard a guess?

It won't do yourself any good standing back to stay clear of the mess.

Actively supporting Newt's proposals WILL do yourself the favor of telling your elected officials where your vote goes.

<strong>A concerted effort would bring concerted results.

If Malkin & Right-Wing Blogs are a one trick pony stuck on the border only, they miss their calling to rally forces for a fiscally conservative alliance at this legislative moment in history.
</strong>

E-MAIL AND TELEPHONE YOUR CONGRESSMEN/WOMEN AND SENATORS!
Support Newt's Proposal!

Gingrich's suggestion that we abolish the capital gains tax altogether in order to infuse the market with capital is the most sensible thing I've heard in decades.

Who in their right minds believes this Congress will <em>ever</em> allow that to happen, though?

Most of those ex-lawyers don't know the first damned thing about economics, but think that deregulation is the cause of this disaster and will insist that those eeeevil corporate Republicans pay for their "crimes." They have no idea what caused the crisis, no idea how to fix it, and simply want partisan revenge. Abolish the capital gains tax? Hell, that just <em>rewards</em> the bastards!

The most telling data here is that quote from OpenLeft. I've read the whole letter; it's from an anonymous Congressman, and it basically consists of a 3-year-old in an adult body wailing that somebody has stolen his favorite truck. Leftist bloggers were cheering and applauding yesterday over that nonsense. That's the mentality of the Left in this crisis. If you actually believe that the man who wrote that piece of infantilia or the people who appllauded him are even capable of rational analysis, you've got your head where sounds don't reach.

They're not going to fix this, no matter how sensible Gingrich's suggestions are. They're going to make it much worse. Brace yourselves.

Newt makes great sense.

If I understand correctly, Obama is mouthing McCain's ideas as his own. AGAIN.

This much I know: JUST SAY NO to any demand for submission to slavery as required by GWBush this week. When Bush is wrong, his depth of error is worse than dismal.

I'm with Newt!
Repeal the sh*t that enabled this nightmare, and DO NOT enable more enablers of corruption with a blank check.

I have never trusted Paulson. That he is Bush's economic mouthpiece is a shame that the GOP must renounce. This is NOT the financial platform of the Grand Old Party.

If Republicans want to characterize themselves with fiscal responsibility, NEVER further a financial crisis more crisis as a cure.

Hasn't the RNC the balls to kill the beast, the beast that Bush appeases as he sells us down river while floating in clouds to his globalist retirement abode flanked with guilt? Why leave this for the DNC to toy with in the media now with more rationalization for further taxation to come?

Newt's solutions, having the long-term health of the economy in mind, are a terrific plan. Will enough members of Congress pay attention.

Dodd, Franks, and Rangel should be relieved of their chairmanships on their respective vital committees. They have abused their power to the detriment of the American people. Jim Johnson, Raines, Gorelick, etal should be the subjects of full investigation for their corruption. If they are not breaking rocks in a federal prison and forced to return their "windfall profits", there is no justice. The community reinvestment bills should be declared null and void. Pelosi and Reid should be relieved of their leadership positions; they are a big FAIL, interested only in playing politics in order to grasp power.

As far as the breaking "astroturfing" news is concerned, we can me sure that Axelrod's past political "successes" can be attributed to this sleazy practice. In the minds of the astroturfers, this method is rationalized as their version of swiftboating, except that what the swiftboat crew did was to expose the truth, not to manufacture lies. Is it the use of astroturfing that made Obama and his surrogates so confident that "the gloves are off" and that THE ONE would have a mandate at the voting booth. Dirty politics, dirty people.

<blockquote>Utter noob question: does the treasury actually have this amount in cash, or do we issue a bunch of new bonds to cover this, or print money, or what?

If we’re generating 700 Bil ex nihlo to pay this debt, is that a big enough amount to have a measurable effect on the economy?

TexasDan on September 21, 2008 at 11:38 PM</blockquote>

Sweet,sweeet noob.

Print money? BEEEN doing that.

No, TexasDan, when we went off the gold standard---THANK YOU DICK---- we gave up any hope that will ever, EVER, EEEEEEEVER pull out of the next big GreatER Depression. Nope. We are in this mire, penny and pound and we are going DOWN.

Its been fun y'all.

I am headin' to the retreat property to hole up and wait for the Golden Horde.

"You Are My Sunshine" made famous by, and generally attributed to, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmie_Davis" rel="nofollow">Governor Jimmy Davis</a>, the Singing Governor of Louisiana, though his claim of authorship is disputed by the Wiki people. A signature depression era tune if ever there was one which is why I find it's mention here sadly ironic.

Sept. 19 (Bloomberg) -- As the U.S. government takes stronger measures to stabilize financial markets, some former Federal Reserve officials, lawmakers and Wall Street executives are saying too much has already been done.

``Every time they intervene, they do more harm than good,'' said Peter Schiff, president of Euro Pacific Capital in Darien, Connecticut, a brokerage that manages $1 billion.

Critics of the rescues agree that government actions, such as those that prevented the failures of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and American International Group Inc., can't postpone the inevitable worsening of housing and financial markets. They say the bailouts by the Fed and Treasury also encourage future reckless risk-taking by investors.

``If we don't stop now, there will be no end,'' said Gerald O'Driscoll, a former vice president of the Dallas Fed and now a scholar at the Cato Institute in Washington. He joins Vince Reinhart, former director of the Fed's monetary affairs division, and Marvin Goodfriend, a former official at the Richmond Fed in questioning the market interventions.

I thought this post on ace's site expalins the ramifications of this:

oh man, marty, can you imagine if someone had an ad on youtube about Obama being a muslim? And the voiceover matched the work of Mccain's ads?

Can anyone imagine the backlash over that?

Especially when Obama is trying to promote himself as a new kind of politician who is above the petty partisianship and pledged that he wouldn’t go negative.

Dagnar on September 22, 2008 at 2:38 AM

Last week Obama tried to deflect himself from the negative ads he was airing by suggesting it was McCain that was lying. It got tot he point at the end of the week that even the Media was saying that Obama was going overboard.

Of course not all of them but Fox was in the forfront and even CNN at times. the question is: If Obama continues to sink in the polls will the Media turn on him to save themselves. IT is what liberals do. Notice Kerry in any campaign events?

oh...good zinger by Palin:

Obama "likes to point the finger of blame," she said, "but has he ever lifted a finger to help?"

oh another one:

When it comes to reform, he says 'I will,' but has he ever been able to say "we did"?

and another:

John McCain," she said, "is the only great man in this race."

The best thing that’s happened this year is that conservatives (as a whole) have finally caught up with and (IMO) surpassed liberals as far as using the Internet and other sources to get our information:
Dagnar on September 22, 2008 at 2:29 AM

the liberals are not helping their cause using the internet. First the Palin email hack, then the hack at Oreily's website, not this astroturfing. Not a good thing. what the liberals seem to have forgotten is that the majority of AMerician do not consider elections WAR. They want and expect a friendly yet confortational election. More like a fencing match or a tennis match, they expect some combativness they look down upon a war mentality. You can go too negative. I think BHO and the media stepped over the line with Palin. And continue to do so at an alarming rate. the American people will not stand for it I hope.

the folks running Hotair must be sleeping. No post for it yet. first we have 60,000 at speech confirming that Palin is still a very hot canidate. Now we have a report which could well turn many clinton supports totally off of Obama has they start to think did he do that do us also? the same report could make the next speech 70,000 or 80,000. The MSM has an oppurtunity here to show that they are not 100% in the tank for Obama. I doubt they will take it.

I agree and we can only hope that it gets ratcheted up to a point where the MSM can't ignore it and are forced to comment on it one way or another. The best thing that's happened this year is that conservatives (as a whole) have finally caught up with and (IMO) surpassed liberals as far as using the Internet and other sources to get our information: We've <em>had</em> to because we know we can't count on the liberal MSM to give us the straight story.
