Report: Organizers of Iran rally threatened with loss of tax-exempt status if they invited Palin

posted at 10:49 am on September 20, 2008 by Allahpundit

Name ‘em and shame ‘em. Seriously. Fox News and the Journal should be all over this. Judging from the number of Democrats quoted in the piece as being upset about it, there’s no shortage of people willing to leak. Let’s find out who, precisely, decided that inviting a prominent Republican to a nonpartisan rally might warrant a visit from the IRS.

And then, in the words of a famous cult leader, let’s get in their faces.

Sources tell CBS 2 HD that a decision to disinvite Palin from the high profile rally after Clinton pulled out in a huff came as the result of intense pressure from Democrats.

“This is insulting. This is embarrassing, especially to Gov. Palin, to me and I think it should be to every single New Yorker,” Assemblyman Dov Hikind, D-Brooklyn, told CBS 2 HD.

Sources say the axes were out for Palin as soon as Sen. Clinton pulled out because she did not want to attend the same event as the Republican vice presidential candidate…

The groups sponsoring the rally against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaking at the UN were reportedly told, “it could jeopardize their tax exempt status” if they had Palin and not Clinton or Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden on hand…

“It’s an absolute shame that this has happened,” Hikind said. “To threaten organizations … to threaten the Conference of Presidents that if you don’t withdraw the invitation to Gov. Palin we’re going to look into your tax exempt status … that’s McCarthyism.”…

“I’m absolutely appalled at the behavior of the Democrats,” said Bob Kunst of Defenders.net. “I’m a Democrat and for the first time in my life I’m going to vote Republican. I can’t take it anymore.”

NBC wrote about the tax-exemption issue two days ago but they made it sound like something the organizers had taken up of their own accord. Quote from an unnamed official involved: “The IRS is very clear, Hillary Clinton does not equal Sarah Palin… You have to have equal representation of candidates.” You do? Here’s the speaker list from last year’s anti-Iran rally at the UN. Scott Garrett is a Republican congressman; as far as I know, every other pol on the list is a Democrat. As for the Obama camp’s role in this, John Batchelor, who’s pals with rally organizer Malcolm Hoenlein, hints here that they weren’t directly involved in the nastiness because, as usual, they had surrogates willing to do their dirty work for them. Fine. As I say: Let’s find out which Democratic lawyers, precisely, arrived at the very novel legal conclusion that inviting both parties to a rally to which only one party RSVPs amounts to politicking in breach of one’s tax exemption. And then let’s ask St. Barack why he couldn’t find one person on his side — apart from the guy who called Palin a Nazi sympathizer a few weeks ago, of course — willing to speak at this rally to “balance” the ticket.

Exit question: Isn’t there something oddly familiar about all this? Exit answer: Yes there is.

This is out and out extortion. Plain and simple. Elected officials using the threat of weilding their powers to hurt a group if they don’t do as they say. Organized crime 101. And a page straight out of the Saul Alinsky playbook.

An Offer Jews Could Not Refuse.

The Democratic Party threatens Jewish Groups regarding Gov. Palin:

The thing that I hate the most about this? It won’t stop my liberal Jewish friends from voting Democrat in any way. It won’t even make them think twice about the tactics used by the Democrats. And it’s far, far worse than Soccer Dad wrote about the other day. CBS didn’t have the story about Jewish organizations having their tax-exempt status revoked for having Palin speak at the rally.

That’s not a political party pressuring groups to do something. That’s outright break-your-kneecap, Mafia-style blackmail threats.

In fact, those are precisely the kinds of tactics that the Jewish groups will be protesting on Monday. We just never expected them from the Democrats.

I’m with you, Allah. Name them all, repeat often, scream it from the rooftops, through the blogs, bring it up on the talking-head shows, letters to editors, friends, neighbors, countrymen (should we “get in their face?”).

And not only with this issue, with all the slimy, dirty, weasely, nasty, and dare I say, STUPID things coming from the Cult of The One.

It is unbelievable to me how time after time, story after story, dirty laundry after sordid detail, how Barry O’Hopenchange even won the primary, let alone is effectively tied and/or leading in this race. I am only praying that when more and more of this gets out, people will eventually wise up, and vote against this tool.

Go ahead, Dems, call me a racist. I dare you.

Palin can’t back down, especially now. If she goes, think of what a powerful message she can send. At once embarass the Democrats and Obama and put that Iranian bastard on notice too. His days of maniacal ravings are numbered with Palin in the administration. This should also wipe out any foreign policy experience lack she has. Imagine in the debate with Biden, if she can point out that she stood upto the bad guys while Biden told Isreal to stuff it and prepare for a nuclear Iran. That would be a killer.

This is not only political gold but also a matter of principle. Palin doesn’t have to be invited by any group. She can just as an ordinary citizen and protest anyway.

If Dems say that, we can always point out what wimps they are and thuggish wimps by the way. Some stunts are good. Think of all the publicity that the Palin protest would generate. She can always say, “I am sorry my Democratic friends can’t find time to attend such an important rally,” and walk over their corpses. She could take Joe Lieberman there with her and make it non-partisan.

BTW, was this a clever ploy to open a rift between Hillary and Sarah and thereby get Hillary supporters back to the Obama camp?

They don’t seem to be acting terribly nervous. Am I missing something?

ManlyRash on September 20, 2008 at 11:28 AM

I’m curious as to when someone will propose a tax-exempt status for individual citizens, complete with controlling measures. For example, a citizen wouldn’t ever have to pay taxes so long as they don’t speak out on matters counter to the government’s stances, own firearms, or place their children into anything besides public education. (That’s just for starters: only the imagination limits how far one can go with this.) The sad thing is just how many people I know who would probably go for this. Knowing how many will give up their dignity for money or superfluous things, saying that someone will give up his freedom for the same reasons isn’t too far of a stretch.

Where is money, fame and influence to be found? In Beverly Hills, Greenwich Village, Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Washington D.C., etc.

They aren’t journalists, though. For some reason, we’ve allowed them to continue calling themselves journalists. I suppose we figured, what the hell, what’s the difference?

promachus on September 20, 2008 at 11:36 AM

If the organizers of the rally disinvited Gov. Palin because of the IRS threat, they need to put on their big boy pants.

In 2004, Bill Clinton spoke at a number of churches in SoCal stumping for Kerry/Edwards and the IRS found that the did not violated their tax exempt status.

Wouldn’t be prudent at this juncture. The Drive-Bys would pile on, accusing her of politicizing the event and demonizing her as a shallow opportunist.
ManlyRash on September 20, 2008 at 11:15 AM

Maybe. Maybe not. However, if I lived in NYC, I would be at that rally with my signs declaring that the organizers care more about their party [photo of a donk ass] than standing up to dictators determined to destroy Israel.

Tru dat. Looks like we start dusting off the Declaration of Independence and updating for use again in the near future. Some the colonists’ gripes sound awfully familiar today.

There are twenty-seven specific complaints against the British Crown set forth in the Declaration of Independence. To modern ears they still sound reasonable. They still sound reasonable, in large part, because so many of them can be leveled against the present federal government of the United States.

How about some of these:

. . . has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.

George III was a piker compared with FDR or LBJ.

. . . has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

Our Congress won’t pass a balanced-budget constitutional amendment.

. . . has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws

Federal regulatory agencies, for instance.

. . . depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury.

If we cross one of those regulatory agencies.

. . . cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world

is what our trade quotas and tariffs do.

. . . imposing Taxes on us without our Consent

Nobody asked me if I wanted a 1040 Form.

. . . taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments

Say buh-bye to the Tenth Amendment.

It’s fine for Barney Frank to refuse to take action and go on the congressional record saying that Freddie/Fannie have no problem as recently as 2006 when John McCain and other GOP presented legislation and pressure to fix the growing problem. It’s fine for tax cheat Charlie Rangel to continue to chair the Ways and Means Committee and give tons of taxpayer bucks to Dem candidates. It’s fine for the Dem lead congress to gleefully rub their hands as they dole out the future of America. And, it’s apparently fine for the Democratic Party to push everyone around so they will gain enough power to take away what remains of our rights.

Disgraceful!!!

Not quite. Any non-profit group that hosts Obama, Biden or any Democrat gets a free pass and lots of fawning media exposure.

Any non-profit group that hosts McCain, Palin or any Republican gets audited, with plenty of media exposure regarding the indiscretion and calls for revocation of tax-exempt status.

Wouldn’t we expect our diplomatic executives to show courage and expose a tyrant for what he is? Or diplomacy is a byword for appeasement?

Too often, US is silent whether it’s Malloch Brown or the UN or Hugo Chavez who diss the country. Sometimes, somebody should give it back. The way we are, where every petty dictator feels free to show the finger to the US has got to stop.

Allah, speaking of “Path to 9/11″, is there any further news on a DVD release? The last I heard was that Disney would release it if money could be made.

Palin was invited by another group. She should go!

promachus on September 20, 2008 at 11:36 AM

I agree!

This entire affair is disgusting. They’re hatred/fear of Palin is so hot they had to damage this protest and threaten the group that arranged it?

aikidoka on September 20, 2008 at 12:06 PM

Our community organizer fearless leader Allahpundit is right. Let’s get busy, people.

When the Democrat leadership made the decision to throw Hillary overboard during the primaries, her constituency — Jews, Hispanics and so-called blue collar Americans — should have gotten the message that their votes were being taken for granted. The donkey party’s actions this election year should alienate more than half of their demographic base — if we get the message out there.

I have married twice into Democrat families — the first, Jewish, and the current, Hispanic — that were never exposed to conservative arguments until I came along. With a lot of unwitting help from Jimmy Carter, my ex-in-laws discovered it’s okay for Jews to vote Republican. These days some of them even listen to Rush.

My dear husband’s Hispanic family probably would have voted for Hillary but are now solidly pledged to McCain. My sisters-in-law think Palin is great. There is a cultural antipathy between Hispanics and Obama that is palpable. At last check, my former congresswoman Loretta Sanchez still has not endorsed Obama.

Short of converting more Democrats by marriage, we should share stories like this with all our Democrat and independent friends. Obama is vulnerable on a host of issues including Iran, taxes, partial birth abortion, arrogance, etc.

is what our trade quotas and tariffs do.

Article I, Section 8. Congress has the power to regulate commerce with foreign nations.

Nobody asked me if I wanted a 1040 Form.

Amendment 16.

Our Congress won’t pass a balanced-budget constitutional amendment.

If this is necessary and good, why did the fathers not included it?

Spirit of 1776 on September 20, 2008 at 12:08 PM

Wethal, she was invited by a different group. She is no party crasher. She should go! Even if she switches a few Jewish votes our way by her actions, that would be awesome. – promachus on September 20, 2008 at 11:48 AM

Shock Poll: Jews Now Favor McCain in New York, 54-32
John Podhoretz – 09.17.2008 – 6:17 PM

The Siena poll, one of the two key polls of New York state voters, has come out with its monthly snapshot of the presidential race in the Empire State. And it’s stunning. It is remarkable, though not eye-opening, that John McCain is now only 5 points behind Barack Obama, 46-41 – not shocking because polls have narrowed to similar margins in New Jersey. (It should be noted, however, that according to a Rasmussen poll released yesterday, Obama is leading in New York by 55-42.)

No, the shocking detail has to do with a wild, 35-point swing toward McCain among Jewish voters. Obama led among them by a margin of 50-37 in August. This month, McCain is actually leading Obama by a margin of 54 percent to 32 percent.

This is not even an election anymore. It’s a feud. Maybe on it’s way towards low intensity violent conflict. This will not end well. – ronsfi on September 20, 2008 at 12:04 PM

This nation is more divided along cultural, religious and political lines than at any time before in its history. Moreover, the chasm that separates the two has widened to the point that it can no longer be bridged. It’s just a matter of time until these differences manifest themselves in armed conflict – dare I say it? Civil war.

ManlyRash on September 20, 2008 at 12:09 PM

Look at it from the Democrats’ perspective: Who is the greatest threat in the world today, Ahmadinejad or Palin?

They are focusing like a laser beam on the greatest threat to them.

Loxodonta on September 20, 2008 at 11:48 AM

McCain would rather lose the election than lose the war. But what percentage of deranged Democrats would allow a Holocaust in Israel if it meant stopping Sarah Palin?

The truthful answer would make you throw up a little in your mouth.

econavenger on September 20, 2008 at 12:10 PM

Wouldn’t be prudent at this juncture. The Drive-Bys would pile on, accusing her of politicizing the event and demonizing her as a shallow opportunist.

ManlyRash on September 20, 2008 at 11:15 AM
Sometimes, a lack of prudence is called for.

Count to 10 on September 20, 2008 at 11:42 AM

The MSM /driveby Media has used up their credibility on Palin. I would really like to see her put in an appearance as “a citizen just showing my support…”. Nothing like poking them in the eye with a sharp stick and then laughing at them. Damn the Torpedos (prudence) and full speed ahead!

I can’t believe any Jew would vote for Obama- he and his minions are eerily Hitleresque.

I can’t believe it either, but they are going to do it all the same. Didn’t Jews support the communist regime in Russia at first? Not the most politically astute of people.

Fascism was a liberal/progressive concept from its inception.

Just got an email from terrorismawareness.org that they have several films available for screening for colleges for Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week (Oct. 13-17 for those interested.) So apparently at least one version is available.

The Path to 9/11 (longer film—may require two nights for screening)

Description: This controversial ABC miniseries dramatizes the 1993 World Trade Center attack and the events leading up to the terrorist attack of September 11th. Due to pressure from Bill Clinton and his supporters, ABC was forced to edit out several crucial scenes before the broadcast. While this miniseries may never be released, we are lucky to have the full, unedited version intended for broadcast on DVD.

Okay folks… this is war.

The MSM lack of coverage, investigations and outright bias has gone on long enough. We’ve joked about it and blogged about it for months and years on end. Most of us have sent off some emails to the networks, offending individuals and relevant advertisers.. all to no effect.

Here’s the problem. We’ve been playing by the rules while the other side has been doing everything possible to get around the rules and play their own, unencumbered game. This is the Red Coats vs. Guerrilla Warfare and we’ve been the Red Coats. While we march in a disciplined, orderly fashion according to the standard rules of civilized warfare, the other side is hiding in bushes ambushing us.

It’s time to change the battle plan.

Make no mistake- Obama is inciting riots on his side. He’s been using every dirty Chitown trick in the book and he’s just getting warmed up.

Here’s the first step, use his own tactics against him- if there is an Obama rally in your vicinity, GO AND GET IN HIS FACE. This group did it to great effect and The One lost control and began to melt down.

Folks, we were taught by Gandhi, MLK and the Dali Lama what the power of organized and insistent peaceful resistance and peaceful civil disobedience can be. We’ve got to take these proven methods PEACEFULLY, FORCEFULLY and CONSISTENTLY into every hall Obama shows up at, every live broadcast we can find and to every organization that is propping up this naked emperor.

Honor our Country, our Forefathers and the Founders of this Land. Honor John McCain and the others like him who fought, were tortured and often died to protect our inalienable rights.

America is under assault again, but this time it’s from someone who we’ve up until now treated as one of our own. Well, he has show consistently that he has no desire to honor and protect the greatness of this country- he wants a new world order that will honor his own narcissistic greatness.

I leave you with the words of and request of on of the greatest men to every serve our country:

I’m going to fight for my cause every day as your President. I’m going to fight to make sure every American has every reason to thank God, as I thank Him: that I’m an American, a proud citizen of the greatest country on earth, and with hard work, strong faith and a little courage, great things are always within our reach. Fight with me. Fight with me.

Fight for what’s right for our country.

Fight for the ideals and character of a free people.

Fight for our children’s future.

Fight for justice and opportunity for all.

Stand up to defend our country from its enemies.

Stand up for each other; for beautiful, blessed, bountiful America.

Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. Nothing is inevitable here. We’re Americans, and we never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history.

Get to work!

Manly Rush:

Well the Democrat Allah references in this post is obviously nervous. I talk to Democrats every day who tell me they will vote for McCain instead of Obama because they think the crazy people have taken over their party. I never hear a Republican say they will vote for Obama. In truth tactics like this have probably hurt Obama. If Democrats would act like rational adults they might well have a double digit lead right now.
