This is, and always was, a non-starter for prosecution anyway. Just look at how the press spun the Clinton impeachment. How do you think they would spin any prosecution of Obama under the Logan Act?

The press would call it a political move to sabotage the Obama candidacy. They would call it racism. They would call it a lot of things and a lot of Americans would buy the spin. Just like they did for Clinton's impeachment.

So the Obama violation of the Logan Act was never more than a talking point. If Obama loses the election then maybe Hillary and other Democrats will wield enough power to get something done afterward. But that is doubtful too.

The only stupidity in this story is the willingness of the Bush Administration to let Obama off the hook. They should have just kept their mouths shut.

I wonder what any of these people think of Oblahblah's attempt to initially lie about this.

depends on who you ask, George Washington would’ve said “F that” while James Madison would’ve said the Senator as alot of say. Both were at every day of the Constitutional Convention, then as POTUS they had a stand off over it. regarding the Jay Treaty I beleive.

Washington sided with the Hamiltonian vision here, Madison was on the side with Jefferson who hated Britain and wanted to ally with France instead, so they wanted to undermine what Washington did

jp on September 19, 2008 at 4:34 PM

jp,
I'd like to explore that further. Can you provide some references or source material?
Thanks,

I just wouldn't trust Bush with this. He has this, "we need to be above all this bickering" thing going on some times. Like when he moved into the White House and ignored the vandalism and theft. That mentality isn't a virtue.

The whole thing sounds fishy to me. I get the feeling that Bush has come out to say Obama is innocent just so that he doesn't have to prosecute him during an election year. The wisdom of that tactic, if indeed that is the situation, remains to be seen.

Can we talk about Palin's tanning bed now?

Hey, as an Indiana resident let me be the 1st to say Lugar is out of touch and probably slept through whatever meeting he attended. And Hagel, well what can you say?

Onager on September 19, 2008

Agree. Lugar is long past it and needs to step aside for someone younger and better than him. Congressman Mark Souder comes to mind, but I don't know if he would want the job. As for Hagel...I almost stepped on a Hagel on the sidewalk the other day. I would have needed a stick to scrape it off my shoe.

You do have to wonder though why did it take Bush administration officials to come up with this story when the Obama campaign itself couldn't? It's no secret that there are a lot of folks in the Administration who do subterfuge from within and their desire to see a Democrat get elected is no secret.

Way to go, Dubya. We can always depend on George to shoot himself in the foot. Again.

Bush shoots himself in the foot while in motion kicking McCain's backside.

Unlike McCain, Bush's military training as a pilot did not involve experience in combat. And painfully it still shows. You'd think Bush would learn when to apply Nancy Reagan's advice; "just say no" to the urge to explicate when silence is golden.

Two officials of the Bush administration say that if Obama had done what the Post story asserted – which they believe to be untrue – U.S. Ambassador Crocker and embassy officials attending the meeting would have ensured that the Bush administration heard about it immediately.

For Tapper to refer to Hagel as a Republican is deceitful, if not factually dishonest. For two officials of the State Department to attempt to deceive the administration in favor of a leftist Democrat during a campaign is ... easily believeable.

Still, you have to accept their very clear denial of the Iraqi version. I can't say why with any clarity, but you just have to.

I think there is still a problem here. The video from June at 9:06 does show a reporter specifically asking about the "timetable for the SoFA" and Obama saying just at the end.." we're probably better off not trying to complete a hard and fast agreement before the next administration takes office."

We found out yesterday that “Dave Rywall” is actually Heather Mallick, and those aren’t her real boobs.

Nice try Heather, on both counts, but no cigar.

ha ha ha you're funny. You have no contribution to the discussion, just an ad hominem attack so that you chatline buddies will think you're tough. Congrats.

If that obnoxius cow Mallick was to post here, you can bet she'd have the guts to use her real name like, say, me, instead of some fake name like Akzed.

Drywall climbs out of his mom’s basement to make another illogical and fundamentally dishonest insult. This blog has been giving Obama the Benefit of the Doubt on “Advice-gate’ since the story broke, but a Tool like you doesn’t read the info or the replies.

OMG the King of Hungary takes a break from fall turnip harvest to come and smack me down instead of Hotair for slamming Obama without merit. Nice work, your highness.

Hey ! Wait a minute! I thought that every word that comes out of the Bush administration is a complete lie. So if they say he didn't then according to the leftwing media he did try and slow down the withdrawal process. So he's lying and the George Bush is trying to cover for him.
