Open thread: Part two of Palin on “Hannity & Colmes”

Judging from last night’s ratings, Palinmania’s alive and well. Sound off below if you’re watching, which you are. She gets off a couple of good lines in the leaked excerpts, especially the one directed at Biden. For the record, she probably would have been in fourth grade, not second, when Greasy Joe was first sworn in. And The One would have been just warming up to junior high.

While you wait, a video treat courtesy of CNBC. Click the image and skip ahead to 2:55 to watch. Surely a man who’d just wowed the faithful with a ringing endorsement of Obama at the convention would seize the chance to lay waste to the Republican newbie, right? See for yourself. Exit quotation from the same interview: “I’ve never concealed my admiration and affection for Senator McCain. I think he’s a great man.” Awesome.

I really don’t understand why liberals are acting like Sarah Palin is the first conservative woman in the history of the United States? Is it because she is obviously much more prettier than what they expect female conservatives to be? Is it because she didn’t marry or be born into fame?

Speedwagon82 on September 19, 2008 at 1:18 AM

Because the “liberal” (or, as I call them) “Obama-”Democrats keep minorities in the freezer and scare them into voting for them. Ethnic, racial, gender, or sexual — it’s all fair game.

Every ethnic/racial Republican/conservative is an “Uncle Tom.”
Every gay/lesbian Republican/conservative is self-hating.
Every woman Republican/conservative is a “Stepford Wife.”

Make no mistake: the Right characterizes the left in opposite ways as well. But they don’t corner the market on votes based on identity politics (unless you argue that “faith” is one of these metrics).

They HATE Palin because she is a strong, capable woman. Her husband respects and appreciates her “superior” role and is not resentful of it. He doesn’t mind being “First Dude” or “Mr. Mom.” That is feminist, and no objective eye can ignore that. But since Palin is — personally, as she indicated in the interview — a social conservative and won’t apologize for her personal thoughts to the “thought police,” she is the devil that must be purified. Funny coming from the “Liberal” Obamacans, yes?

That’s why the “Obama Liberals” hate her. She appeals to the market they’ve tried to corner.

To wit:
If a young, gay, urban, college-educated life-long (until recently) Democrat like me respects Sarah Palin and her worldview, what does it say about “Joe Sixpack”?

She’s that scary to them. But there are a lot of us “indentured servants” of the Democratic Party that are tired of them giving us lip-service and are eager for real reform that will assist us in our daily lives.

At least, that’s my take.

lansing quaker on September 19, 2008 at 1:28 AM

I find it almost surreal that that guy was ever our president. Seriously, that’s all I could think while watching that.

Your name says it all. I’m proud that there are still women who say what they mean, and mean what they say. I have a liberal girlfriend and, she reminds me of you on principals, but still sees Palin as a threat and disengenious. Further evidence of the hypocrisy.

lansing…

your thoughts were a refreshing way to start my day and in fact makes a lot of sense…

nicely done

Is it me or did he just liken McCain to Abraham Lincoln and tell folks to vote for McCain?

Mr. Palin is “First Dude” but inaccurately calling him “Mr. Mom” is the same as calling Sarah Palin “Mrs. Dad”–they both work, they are both professionals, and neither in the marriage touts as “superior” nor does either parent stay full-time at home as the child-care-giver. The Palins are the modern working family. Everyone pitches in at home, just as they always have on the frontier, each with their chores. It’s great seeing a family that loves each other doing well.

When I saw that this was an interview, not an appearance with the talking heads, I watched it.

I hate talking heads.

This also drives liberals crazy. Todd Palin is a manly man yet he still helps take care of the kids so Sarah can pursue her career. That doesn’t fit the mold either. Neither of them is the kind of overeducated, desiccated, dehumanized gasbag we are used to seeing in our political couples. They are similar to the Reagans in that regard. I worked for President Reagan, and he and Nancy Reagan received the same kind of vitriol from the Left as the Palins do now. (Believe me, they are saying the same kind of stuff about Cindy McCain, whose boots none of us are fit to wipe.)

What has astounded me so much this year is to see all these people bowing at the feet of Hillary Clinton, who has a lot of years on her, for sure, but is where she is only because of who she married. I am wondering when that became the model of feminism. Does anyone really think that Hillary Rodham from Illinois could have gone back there and had a successful political career? Has she ever bucked the establishment of her own party the way Sarah Palin has? Has she ever produced a real result like Palin’s successful negotiation of a $40 billion gas pipeline or ethcs reform legislation?

rockmom on September 19, 2008 at 8:57 AM

I have to admit that I agree with Palin on almost everything politically, but even so, I lose my objectivity because she is so sexy. I.Want.Her.

lionheart on September 19, 2008 at 8:57 AM

Your insight is brilliant! You have nailed both the nature of Hillary’s success and the nature of feminists’ hatred of Sarah Palin.

Palin/rockmom 2012! :)

Also!

lodge on September 19, 2008 at 11:33 AM

Well god bless the Palins. Thats all I have to say. They are an example that somewhere in the dusty corners of the country, there’s still something worth electing into office. Remember on the experience thing though, as they compare her to Obama, she is running for VP compared to Obama running for Pres. and he has a hard time beating a VP candidate? eh… thinking aloud here… have a great day everyone..

There is no doubt Bill wants to “hit it”.

And Sarah would knock the living shit out of that POS while the rest of us would be laughing our asses off.

Polar Queen needs to, like, get a clue about making wise and decent choices. Palin supports the BARBARIC SHOOTING OF WOLVES AND BEARS FROM PLANES! It is revolting to see an animal chased to exhaustion by a low-flying plane and then riddled with bullets, as shown in this video:

It’s hard to get worked up about that when Obama supports the barbaric killing of infants by “low-flying” abortiontists and neglect.

You are right, they should use a more high powered rifle, where only one or two shots kill it.
Funny line though, “BARBARIC SHOOTING OF WOLVES AND BEARS FROM PLANES!” Never thought of barbarians flying a plane, pretty sophisticated barbarians…were the pilots wearing bear cloths? Bone in their noses?
Until you have tasted Polar Bear meat, you haven’t lived. Wolf meat is a little gamey tasting but the fur is invaluable for its resistant to icing up. That is what those barbarian Eskimos use around their face.
Shelby, I hope you have a chance for a bear burger someday…

Would be nice if you did the same.

jewells45 on September 19, 2008 at 4:12 PM

Shelby-I apologize, that wasn’t very nice of me.
I do think there are more humane ways to control the wolf population.

jewells45 on September 19, 2008 at 4:16 PM

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE PUPPIES?!

csdeven on September 19, 2008 at 4:33 PM

Clearly this is a case of using the wrong weapon system. A mini-gun would solve this problem. Like they say with the AC-130, you can run, but you’ll just die tired.

csdeven on September 19, 2008 at 4:33 PM

Are you referring to the 14 wolf pups that were recently killed in their den in Alaska???!!!

Shelby on September 19, 2008 at 11:00 PM

“Yeah? Well, she’s a big liar too!”
“And stupid!”
“And ugly!”
(In unison) “She’s so UGLY!”
(Various vomit noises)
“I hate her so much!”
“I wish she were dead!”
“I wish i were out with Duane.”
stonemeister on September 18, 2008 at 11:36 PM

I actually have no idea how to reply to that!
Um do you have daughters?
But then I do and haven’t ever heard anything quite like that… But we’re Republicans…
petunia on September 18, 2008 at 11:42 PM

Funny stonemeister!

petunia, ROTFLMAO! But we’re Republicans!!! Oh, it’s that “moral majority” party you’re talkiing about!

I’m guessing then that Palin’s daughter’s stud, Levi, is NOT A REPUB!!! Do you know what language he used on one of his MySpace pages before taking it down???!!! Have a look at this NYP story, Ms. Republican! This is rich. The hypocrisy here is hysterical!!! BTW, I am not a Dem.

Says Levi:

“I’m a f – - -in’ redneck” who likes to snowboard and ride dirt bikes.
“But I live to play hockey. I like to go camping and hang out with the boys, do some fishing, shoot some s- – - and just f – - -in’ chillin’ I guess.”
“Ya f – - – with me I’ll kick [your] a**,” he added.
He also claims to be “in a relationship,” but states, “I don’t want kids.”

Great family values here!!! Guess Palin was too busy with her career to keep an eye on what type of friends her kids were hanging with! How hard would it have been to check out her daughter’s stud’s MySpace stuff???!!! Maybe she didn’t need to—maybe Levi talks all the time like that so Palin already new he was a bada**. Are not these kinds of boys the types that pressure girls to give it up? Didn’t Palin learn anything when she got knocked up before marriage?! Based on this, one would think she’d be EXTRA CAREFUL ABOUT WHOM HER DAUGHTER WAS DATING! GUESS NOT!

Oh, and one more thing about those Repub values. Polar queen is allowing Levi to display a photo of her in a teeny tiny SHORT skirt and with her blouse almost completely unbuttoned on another of his MySpace pages!

What an example of modesty she is showing her daughters. NOT! Palin and you “I’m a Republician” types are giving the Dems so much fodder to use against you, it’s fricken absurd!
