Democrats to adjourn again?

You have to hand it to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. Once they decide on a strategy, they stick with it. Bloomberg reports that the Democratic Congress will take action in the face of this economic crisis — by beating a hasty retreat:
The Democratic-controlled Congress, acknowledging that it isn’t equipped to lead the way to a solution for the financial crisis and can’t agree on a path to follow, is likely to just get out of the way.
Lawmakers say they are unlikely to take action before, or to delay, their planned adjournments — Sept. 26 for the House of Representatives, a week later for the Senate. While they haven’t ruled out returning after the Nov. 4 elections, they would rather wait until next year unless Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke, who are leading efforts to contain the crisis, call for help.
One reason, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said yesterday, is that “no one knows what to do” at the moment.
The stench from this hypocrisy is overwhelming. Reid, Pelosi, Barack Obama, and every Democrat who could bitterly cling to a microphone over the last four days has spewed invective at the Bush administration, blaming the credit-market meltdown on Bush’s policies. Now, at the height of the crisis, not only do the Democrats admit they haven’t a clue as to how to address it, to whom do they turn to solve it?
The Bush administration! After all, Henry Paulson serves on the Bush administration Cabinet, and has been Bush’s Treasury Secretary for over two years. In fact, Paulson was one of the CEOs that Democrats love to demonize, having run Goldman Sachs for years at salaries over $15 million a year for the two years prior to his appointment. Joe Biden just got done blaming the meltdown on people like Paulson. Now Democrats want him to rescue America.
First Pelosi adjourns the House in the middle of an energy supply crisis that hammered the working class with sharp hikes in fuel and food costs. Now both Pelosi and Reid want to adjourn both chambers of Congress rather than deal with the credit crisis that Washington created with its heavy-handed mandates to issue credit to marginally qualified borrowers and lack of oversight over government-guaranteed entities. Given their ineptitude, we probably should be grateful — as Bloomberg notes. But considering their rhetoric over the last few days, their retreat may be one of the most cowardly acts in domestic policy seen in a very long time.
I hearby dub this … the Brave Sir Robin Congress.

The Pelosi-Reid Congress is really the gift that keeps on giving to the Republicans.
Republicans in the House and Senate need to capitalize on this. And they need to do so long, loud, and relentlessly.

Sen. Reid, if you don’t know what to do and want to prevent those who have an idea from doing something, please resign from the Senate immediately. Let Nevada put in someone who has a clue. Meanwhile you can play landbaron in Nevada.

Okay, if McCain doesn’t start hitting Obama on this, he does not deserve to be President.
Obama is the selected leader of the Dems. Yet he tucks his tail and runs at the first (well second counting energy) crisis.
They should pull out every spokesperson, every pundit, every bit of extra dollars and ram this up the Dems….

Obama’s stature, wisdom and gravitas are being acknowledge, finally.
Apparently Nancy and the gang are heeding Barry’s advice to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari and rather than rush into anything (like work) they’d rather just run the clock out in the hopes of adding to their majority.
Hard to ride coat tails when the emperor has no clothes. (In some states that’s still considered and illegal act).

Will Republicans jump on this? I doubt it, but I hope they do. Staying behind for drilling was a good tactic but now they need to take it up a notch. The elections are close it is time to heavily advertise how poor Democratic leadership really is. Another thing, McCain needs to hit hard on how Obama is a part of the lousy Democratic majority that needs to go.

DRILLING VICTORY
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 10:03 AM
From the Hill this morning:
Democrats Concede to GOP Demands Not to Extend Energy Bans in CR: “Two parties that started September headed for a bitter clash that could have shut down the government are now preparing for a quiet departure as each tries to shift into campaign mode. Democrats have given in to GOP demands to lift a decades-old ban on expanding offshore drilling, paving the way for must-pass legislation to keep the government running after Oct. 1. By conceding to the GOP demands over oil drilling, Democrats are seeking to blunt the campaign slogan that they are standing in the way of lower gas prices.”
Note: This is not the “sham” energy bill the House Republicans have been blasting. This is a congressional ban on offshore drilling that must be renewed every year. This year, however, they are not going to renew it. They are going to let it expire–which means it will be legal to drill offshore and explore shale in the Rocky Mountains….at least until Congress returns after November, or January.
The ban will expire while Congress is on recess, again, for the November elections. Dem leadership plans to send everyone home on September 26 for the November elections and it unclear if they will be returning for a “lame duck” session after the elections.
Of course, when they do come back they can pass a law to put prohibitions on drilling back in place.

Their statement will be along these lines:
It is imperative that these problems are corrected. However, during the election is is impossible for the Repub. to put partisan issues aside.
In the interest of doing the best for the American people, we feel that waiting till after the elections, after we have let the American people voice their decision. We will have an atmosphere for better non-partisan participation.
It does the country no good to use this serious economic policy brought on by years of neglect by an administration who does not listen to the American people, as a political football.
Therefore we will be setting up committees to work with the new administration to correct these very serious problems, caused by 8 years of neglect.
That is what the American people have voted us in for, to stop the partisan politics and work on a real solution. We cannot work with a lame duck administration who has brought on these problems.
The elections will tell the lawmakers that American is ready to move towards new solutions…it is time for change, and not time for partisan politics.
And that will be there line of retreat.

If we want to win this election and get back congress as well, what we need to do between now and election day is tie these flunkies to Obama on every turn and tie it to every congressional office, every gubenatorial race, and take their own words and use it against them. In the words of 43, when he was first running, “They have not led, we will!”
ConservativePartyNow on September 18, 2008 at 10:45 AM
Maybe it’s good that they’re gone. The last time they meddled, we got Freddy Mac, Sally Mac, and a bunch of overinflated house prices. That crisis, manufactured by the Democrats and their refusal in the name of “social justice” to allow sound lending practices, has brought on this entire fiasco.
I can just imagine 400-something captains trying to take the tiller simultaneously. At least they’ve sense enough to let the real captain sail the ship through the turbulent waters they themselves have created.
Besides, they are going on record as disagreeing with Obama’s plagiarized (from Biden?) histrionics lambasting McCain’s assessment of the economy, based on their actions today. That is good. Very good.
unclesmrgol on September 18, 2008 at 10:45 AM
Of course Democrats don’t know what to do, look at their “qualifications”.
Failed lawyers, who know nothing besides how to sue people.
Trophy wives and husbands (e.g. Pelosi, Boxer, Kerry).
Worthless legacy trust fund billionaires (any Kennedy).
Barack Obama (’nuff said).
The Congressional Black Poverty Pimp/Thieving Caucus (e.g. Jefferson and Rangle)
The Gambino Crime family’s bought and paid for Senator from Las Vegas, Harry Reid
What do any of these people know about anything that’s useful to anyone besides themselves?
Democrat politicians are all utterly worthless people. The best thing they could do for America is to catch the first plane out and to not look back.
NoDonkey on September 18, 2008 at 10:48 AM
Since President Bush already lifted the executive ban, “Drill, Baby, Drill”! If some of the drilling had already started by the time Congress comes back in January, would they dare re-impose the ban and try to kick existing oil rigs out?
One wonders what some of the STATES will do about this! Most of the southern Atlantic coast states where oil is available (NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS) have Republican-controlled state legislatures and Governors, and they might go ahead and approve leases and start taking bids as soon as the ban expires. Virginia might be a problem, but Republican Congressional candidates could campaign on getting a REAL drilling bill through Congress, and also on preventing the Democrats from re-imposing a partial ban.
