Open thread: Palin on “Hannity & Colmes”

posted at 8:40 pm on September 17, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

You’ll all be watching so let’s open a thread. Here’s the extended excerpt from the interview, thick with populist laments about “corruption” on Wall Street, in case you missed it in Headlines. Some commenters were grumbling that it’s too vague and boilerplate, but most people will be studying her less for flashes of insight than for reassurance that she has some basic sense of what she’s talking about. Grade on the curve for now; the debate with Biden is the final exam.

If the public at large is cooling to her, the crowds most assuredly are not.

Nancy Pelosi’s head just exploded!

“Give money back to the people…….NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!”

Seven Percent Solution on September 17, 2008 at 9:15 PM

The National Review Online gang recently were discussing Joe Biden’s changing look – the hair mysteriously thicker (?spray), the new tan (?out of a bottle) and the missing forehead lines (?botox). By the time of the debates, it will be Tina Fey vs. Joan Rivers.

Marcus on September 17, 2008 at 9:15 PM

If McCain/Palin loses in November, would it be Ok if Canada borrowed her for 4 years?

please, eh?

dailybayonet on September 17, 2008 at 9:14 PM

No, she’s ours!

Enoxo on September 17, 2008 at 9:16 PM

uh ooooooooooooooooooohz….

the verbiage/verbage thing will probably be an attack line. dictionary.com says:

verbage spelling, jargon
/ver’b*j/ A deliberate misspelling and mispronunciation of verbiage that assimilates it to the word “garbage”. Compare content-free. More pejorative than “verbiage”.

Drunk Report on September 17, 2008 at 9:12 PM

Meh. About the only thing the MSM (not including SNL) hasn’t attacked is her accent. They sure as heck would have already done so.

fiatboomer on September 17, 2008 at 9:16 PM

Ok the Obama “94″ times thing was sweet.

Pasalubong on September 17, 2008 at 9:16 PM

Please continue to hammer Oblahblah on his voting record!

common sensineer on September 17, 2008 at 9:16 PM

If we take a shot everytime Sean asks a softball question, how drunk will we be?

Not nearly as drunk as you’d be if you took a shot for all the questions Obama has not been, nor ever will be asked.

AntonK on September 17, 2008 at 9:17 PM

Joe Biden appears to be in the process of growing out a mullet. The back of his hair is getting long while those hairplugs are pulling his forehead backwards.

cannonball on September 17, 2008 at 9:17 PM

dailybayonet,

What’s the storyline on Sarah up there, eh? Do the majority like her?

Star20 on September 17, 2008 at 9:17 PM

Does it not piss anyone off that, again, Hannity asked her what reforms could be made and she totally deflected?

lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 9:17 PM

If McCain/Palin loses in November, would it be Ok if Canada borrowed her for 4 years?

dailybayonet on September 17, 2008 at 9:14 PM

No, she would get thrown in jail for saying something, anything, about anyone; that CRC is a bad, dark joke.

WisCon on September 17, 2008 at 9:17 PM

I have never even considered that political talk could be sexy but Governor Palin has changed that.

carbon_footprint on September 17, 2008 at 9:18 PM

The interview is streaming live here….

Pianobuff on September 17, 2008 at 9:14 PM

THX

fiatboomer on September 17, 2008 at 9:18 PM

OK, two segments, I haven’t heard a single stumble, waffle or “um” yet.

cannonball on September 17, 2008 at 9:18 PM

Politics can be sexy? Who would have thought it…

cannonball on September 17, 2008 at 9:19 PM

Because I posted at the end of the first page…

live streaming of the interview is here for those of you in the midwest/west.

Pianobuff on September 17, 2008 at 9:19 PM

Question for Michelle Malkin: “Michelle, when are you going to get rid of Allahpundit and hand the helm here over to someone with a brain?

AntonK on September 17, 2008 at 9:19 PM

Little hint of federalism? and still no ummmms or ahhhhs. Frame two was a solid spare…

AnthonyK on September 17, 2008 at 9:20 PM

Does it not piss anyone off that, again, Hannity asked her what reforms could be made and she totally deflected?

lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 9:17 PM

Her talking points sound too much like Mav’s.

Question for Sarah: If you had Hillary in your sights could you, would you pull the trigger?

cannonball on September 17, 2008 at 9:20 PM

Question for Michelle Malkin: “Michelle, when are you going to get rid of Allahpundit and hand the helm here over to someone with a brain?“

AntonK on September 17, 2008 at 9:19 PM

Uh, we had that discussion in another thread. Allah only abuses you because he loves you.

fiatboomer on September 17, 2008 at 9:21 PM

I have never even considered that political talk could be sexy but Governor Palin has changed that.

carbon_footprint on September 17, 2008 at 9:18 PM

You crack me up!

MrsWeebork on September 17, 2008 at 9:21 PM

hey, we’re working on the CHRC thing, really.

Canada’s opinion is split on Palin – the west loves her, the center and east not so much, despite my attempting to educamicate them.

I figure Alaska is almost Canada… sure we couldn’t borrow her for a bit… sure could use her…

dailybayonet on September 17, 2008 at 9:21 PM

Her talking points sound too much like Mav’s.

fiatboomer on September 17, 2008 at 9:20 PM

Yup, I’m thinking pretty soon they should have a “1st 100 days in office” plan that is very action-oriented.

Pianobuff on September 17, 2008 at 9:21 PM

I think she’s looking awfully strong here. She’s got to be more secure in knowing that Hannity isn’t going to try to sandbag her like Gibson did but I get the sense that she’s a fast learner. Considering how long these other bozos have been doing this, she actually looks great.

nocomme1 on September 17, 2008 at 9:21 PM

Cronyism!

lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 9:21 PM

I agree with lorien, that was a missed opportunity to talk about streamlining the Alphabet soup agencies or getting rid of 1930’s regulation that doesn’t work for a 21st century economy.

uabalumn07 on September 17, 2008 at 9:21 PM

I like Palin, but this is a little too populist for me…

Populism is ok, but it needs to be backed up by policy. Team McCain have to worry about being typecasted as the “Rah Rah Reganite Reformers”… this is 2008, not 1980…

For instance, on health care they shouldn’t be afraid of nudging(social engineer) people to get off their asses and take care of themselves… use markets as much as possible. Focus on the downstream…

They need to put down Hayek for a bit and pickup Macintyre

ninjapirate on September 17, 2008 at 9:22 PM

“Cronyism” needs to be added to our drinking game.

cannonball on September 17, 2008 at 9:22 PM

lsutiger on September 17, 2008 at 9:22 PM

Hannity better quit looking at my girl

custer on September 17, 2008 at 9:23 PM

It’s so refreshing to hear her speak without Obama’s stuttering and stammering of ‘uh’ ‘um’ ‘eh’ ‘hmm’

Enoxo on September 17, 2008 at 9:23 PM

Populism is ok, but it needs to be backed up by policy. Team McCain have to worry about being typecasted as the “Rah Rah Reganite Reformers”… this is 2008, not 1980…

I’ve been thinking the same thing – they have to get this beyond a populist version of “hope and change”…. REALLY SOON.

Pianobuff on September 17, 2008 at 9:23 PM

BTW, she sounds WAAAAY better in person than the Slime Magazine transcripts made her sound.

I see Hannity’s stock going up, while O’Reilly’s is going down.

Star20 on September 17, 2008 at 9:25 PM

She has to support John McCain’s platform. If she is flat on that, maybe the fault lies with McCain. She can’t go off half-cocked, or Joe Bidened. She has to work within McCain’s framework.

Sue on September 17, 2008 at 9:25 PM

She makes me want to watch Fargo again.

I live in Minnesota and have shot deer who were Canadian citizens, so you can have Palin in twelve years, after she is done serving as veep and then twice as President.

Bishop on September 17, 2008 at 9:26 PM

Sue on September 17, 2008 at 9:25 PM

The difference there is purely political. McCain gets to say he’s against it (which most moderates are), while she gets to say she’s for it (which most of the base is).

It’s smart for them to disagree here.

lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 9:26 PM

She still seems a bit too scripted. I know she needed tutored but she comes across a little too coached.

I think she’s much more at ease than before. Practice makes perfect and she’ll only get better. Seemed to me she was putting a lot more thoughts into her own personal verbal style than the last interview.

Now if both of them can start really describing what reform looks like and benefits…..

O’Reilly had a guest who is a media coach with her tips for Sarah – one was to lose the hand gesturing in a one on one interview.

I know how hard it is to talk with out gesturing – If I sit on my hands, my thoughts don’t gel.

tru2tx on September 17, 2008 at 9:30 PM

McCain/Palin were here in Grand Rapids today… wasn’t able to attend, but I did listen to it on the radio.

At one point McCain was introducing Palin’s husband, and quipped that he was a better pilot than himself. That got laughs & applause.

All in all, they both gave great speeches. The Q&A afterwards was also great.

Not Helping! The pansies of the American East lodge that claim as why she is unfit for office. That is, what does a quasi-Canadian from a state not even connected to most others know about leading this nation.

And, yes, Canada, could use her talents but as long as you keep re-electing nutjob legislators who stomp on GWB dolls you all wouldn’t appreciate her.
