Open thread: Palin on “Hannity & Colmes”

You’ll all be watching so let’s open a thread. Here’s the extended excerpt from the interview, thick with populist laments about “corruption” on Wall Street, in case you missed it in Headlines. Some commenters were grumbling that it’s too vague and boilerplate, but most people will be studying her less for flashes of insight than for reassurance that she has some basic sense of what she’s talking about. Grade on the curve for now; the debate with Biden is the final exam.
If the public at large is cooling to her, the crowds most assuredly are not.

“Eye of the storm”
Ok … that’s funny.
darwin on September 17, 2008 at 8:43 PM
Sean “Wallbanger” Hannity at his finest.
an_abstraction on September 17, 2008 at 8:44 PM
Palineconomania!
hisfrogness on September 17, 2008 at 8:44 PM
If we take a shot everytime Sean asks a softball question, how drunk will we be?
mycowardice on September 17, 2008 at 8:45 PM
Tivo is set and ready to go!
IrishGirl17 on September 17, 2008 at 8:45 PM
The question that no one seems to be asking, but everyone is thinking….
Did the Gibson interview torpedo Palin and by extension McCain?
The first night wasn’t pretty, and that (and the internet excerpts release early and distortingly hyped by ABC) are all anyone talked about.
Can Palin redeem herself with a Fox News interview?
No.
Nessuno on September 17, 2008 at 8:46 PM
Dead.
lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 8:47 PM
I think if we limited the drinking to every time he asked a version of “is it hard being you?” we’d get smashed enough.
Nessuno on September 17, 2008 at 8:47 PM
I think McCain on the View did more damage. Seriously.
That view appearance was a disaster.
lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 8:47 PM
It’s all practice for the debates, she hasn’t had any debate-work for a year and a half…
Practice rounds in front of the camera. Joe does his in front of a mirror….

uh, ROTFLMAO
fiatboomer on September 17, 2008 at 8:48 PM
I’m on duty for “You’re a great American” watch.
Pasalubong on September 17, 2008 at 8:48 PM
That McCain, himself, couldn’t offer up 1 serious thing to reform in Washington made me cringe.
lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 8:48 PM
You may be thinking that, but I doubt you’re a supporter to begin with.
Haunchie on September 17, 2008 at 8:48 PM
Is here a written rule that EVERY interview has to be adversarial?
I am looking forward to seeing what she has to say about a lot of subjects, not just how well she spars with MSMers.
Elizabetty on September 17, 2008 at 8:48 PM
Hannity: What is your stance on the Bush Doctrine?
carbon_footprint on September 17, 2008 at 8:49 PM
Thank Gawd, its going to be in friendly

She’d say: I’ve never seen Bush naked.
Ha Cha Cha!
lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 8:50 PM
Before the show starts, here’s a little O/T for ya from the Seattle P.I.
Why is this being said outloud? This needs to be kept quite and doubled, then tripled. More Predators! More Reapers! More Hellfires! More dead terrorists!
Tony737 on September 17, 2008 at 8:50 PM
Who the hell is this body language coach on O’Reilly?
Pasalubong on September 17, 2008 at 8:51 PM
I’m afraid I’m going to have to go ahead and agree with the crowds, if you could just come on over to our side when you get a chance…yeah…that would be great.
Dorvillian on September 17, 2008 at 8:51 PM
Only fair for her to get a few “is it hard being you?” questions, since that was the exact line of questioning Gibson took with Obama.
Missy on September 17, 2008 at 8:51 PM
Is Colmsey even going to ask her any questions? I doubt it. Considering how pissed I think she was at Gibson, I think she’d probably punch Alan in the face.
fiatboomer on September 17, 2008 at 8:51 PM
is the eye of the storm thing cuz Hannity is a soft interview for her? like how its calm in the eye?… right?… rightuguys?
just making sure i got it right… im drunk
Drunk Report on September 17, 2008 at 8:52 PM
Not me. I am transfixed by the meltdown of the world financial system. It’s like a good soap opera now. Will The Chinese buy Morgan Stanley? Will the changes to naked short selling save Morgan and Goldman? The Nikkei down 3% already? Yikes! Russia melting down, oh, oh… Any more Money markets gonna break the buck tonight? Etc., etc…
TheBigOldDog on September 17, 2008 at 8:52 PM
Sean interviewd her in Ohio. I don’t think Alien was there.
Elizabetty on September 17, 2008 at 8:52 PM
Just a chick jealous of how hot Palin is.
lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 8:52 PM
I don’t see how the trolls can complain about Sean and Sarah after O’Reilly showed a “View” clip of Bawa Walters telling Obama he looked “sexy” and Obama fanning himself. Outside of Sean and Sarah kissing on the lips, I don’t think that will be topped.
Marcus on September 17, 2008 at 8:52 PM
SOS,um,anybody got a linky to Fox?
Please,and Thank-you!
canopfor on September 17, 2008 at 8:54 PM
No, but if you have only given 2 interviews so far, you might want to skip interviewing with a guy that is clearly on your side.
mycowardice on September 17, 2008 at 8:55 PM
Is here a written rule that EVERY interview has to be adversarial?
Exactamundo, why can’t this be more of an informational thing than having to cross swords?
The turfers (who have become more numerous by the day) are going to whine and throw themselves on the floor, but it will be nice to see Palin not having to fight-off the interviewer for once.
Bishop on September 17, 2008 at 8:56 PM
Why? People on every other station have been tearing her and her family apart. The total MSM and alphabet chanel negative stories have been in the dozens.
Elizabetty on September 17, 2008 at 8:56 PM
One of the things I’ve been sending out in my emails is this:
Team McCain wants to go with the “I’ve been a reformer… she’s been a reformer… send us to Washington to reform ‘things’ “… come on…
Team McCain = vapid & uncreative
Peggy Noonan asked the right question after Palin’s speech, is this 1980 or is this 2008?
Go look to see what Cameron is doing in Britain… if we get raeped this election that’s where we’ll be…
ninjapirate on September 17, 2008 at 8:56 PM
I don’t see how the trolls can complain about Sean and Sarah after O’Reilly showed a “View” clip of Bawa Walters telling Obama he looked “sexy” and Obama fanning himself. – Marc
Really? They’ll be all over it and at the same time claim that the Viewettes were tough on the OH!man because they didn’t get down on their knees and uh, worship him.
Tony737 on September 17, 2008 at 8:56 PM
BTW, do all Alaskans refer to places outside the immediate vicinity as “there?” Or is this just a “north of the US-Canada border” thing? I don’t have a problem with it as I live in a state full of wierdos (Washington), but I’m kinda curious.

I don’t want to read TIME’s edited excerpts. Is this the best we get? Where are the verbatim questions?

No way. Fox would have put that on their front page.

Hannity just asked – how hard was it to pick up the phone when McCain called?

That would be true if these were the only interviews she is going to give but there is a long way to go before 11/04. Katie Couric comes later this week.
Cindy Munford on September 17, 2008 at 9:03 PM
I don’t buy that “fundamentals” comment. McCain is weak on the economy and fell victim to using a crutch phrase.

ninjapirate on September 17, 2008 at 9:04 PM
She already seems better. Quick learner.
SouthernGent on September 17, 2008 at 9:04 PM
New scandal: Palin said “verbage” instead of “verbiage” — twice! Wait for it: Proof that she’s an idiot!

Arrggh… hammer the dems on Fred n’ Fann…
Pasalubong on September 17, 2008 at 9:04 PM
Yep, that was bullcrap. McCain was right. The fundamentals are strong. Why the need to reword it?
lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 9:05 PM
She can be long winded… I’d like to see more concise answers.
cannonball on September 17, 2008 at 9:05 PM
So far so good.
WisCon on September 17, 2008 at 9:05 PM
Also keep in mind that when this was taped, Governor Palin was aware that her Yahoo account had been hacked, and her contact information, children’s pics, etc. were on the Internet for anyone to see. She looks so composed.
carbon_footprint on September 17, 2008 at 9:05 PM
Ummmmmmmmmmmm………….. someone may want to remind Sarah that is was government forcing the banks to loan money to people that they knew could not pay it back or face stiff government fines that started this mess in the first place……………….. right Mr. Clinton?
Seven Percent Solution on September 17, 2008 at 9:05 PM

OT, but let’s slam a poll. PBS is running a poll on Palin as VP
Buford Gooch on September 17, 2008 at 9:06 PM
Opium (OPM) that is kinda catchy. Should use that against congress too.
lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 9:06 PM
Haven’t mastered that linky thing (among other things) yet.

Buford Gooch on September 17, 2008 at 9:07 PM
Guess I have to wait for Fox to post the vid. In the preview on Foxnews.com she looks very strong, but as others have mentioned she’s talking up wafer-thin McCain talking points.
What I want her to do is come out and burn Bambi’s forest down.
fiatboomer on September 17, 2008 at 9:07 PM
Hannity you condescending jerk!

carbon_footprint on September 17, 2008 at 9:08 PM
Hannity is taking charge on the Fannie Mae donations LOL
lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 9:08 PM
she’s doing fine, yes she needs more precision…RCP has the EC neck and neck instead of Barry up by 8….
eyes on the ball people if we defeat ourselves through navelgazing we don’t need Barry’s help.
sven10077 on September 17, 2008 at 9:08 PM
Not as NEARLY as drunk as we would be if we had to take a crink very time Obama is asked a softball question by the MSM. Does anyone remember anytime they have actually asked him a tough question?
Noelie on September 17, 2008 at 9:08 PM
Yep, I was thinking the same thing!
WisCon on September 17, 2008 at 9:08 PM
Hannity has a raging clue. You know it, don’t you?
lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 9:08 PM
I like Palin, but this is a little too populist for me…

If you argue not drinking the J.Wright Koolaid straight as being “MSM on a rampage” it’s been that long.
sven10077 on September 17, 2008 at 9:09 PM
already much better than the Gibson interview, shocking

lorien1973 on September 17, 2008 at 9:10 PM

I think one of the Gallager bros from Oasis said that about Parliament once too.
forest on September 17, 2008 at 9:12 PM
uh ooooooooooooooooooohz….
the verbiage/verbage thing will probably be an attack line. dictionary.com says:
verbage spelling, jargon
/ver’b*j/ A deliberate misspelling and mispronunciation of verbiage that assimilates it to the word “garbage”. Compare content-free. More pejorative than “verbiage”.
Drunk Report on September 17, 2008 at 9:12 PM
No gutter balls yet. Frame one was maybe a spare.
AnthonyK on September 17, 2008 at 9:12 PM
OK, since I’m being denied my Palin fix until Fox posts the video, I guess I’ll just have to go watch Cavuto send O’Reilly to the dentist. Laterz.
fiatboomer on September 17, 2008 at 9:13 PM
What are you saying, that Palin isn’t a heavyweight? Perhaps the reason that she didn’t provide more substance is because a woman of her intelligence has to worry about talking over the commoners who watch tv. She’s trying to follow a simple language that the average person can understand. Consider her a study of Geroge W.
Anyway, this is her 2nd interview in 3 weeks. This level of media engagement suggests a politician who’s too absorbed by challenges in the financial system to waste time with reporters.
foreverright on September 17, 2008 at 9:13 PM
I just hope they don’t “over-coach” her. They will ruin what attracted us to her, I mean besides her legs.
