ya, this was AWFUL. hate hate HATED the butchering of something meaningful by this vanity rendition. we have been getting this link every couple hours with messages of outrage over at DrunkReport.com. The singer, who at times sounded like a Mariah Carey-wannabe, threw in several extra notes into the performance and used violent body gesticulations to match her powerful voice. When she ended the song, an overwhelming "boo" came from the crowd.

On another note, she’s done a great job spitting on ever soldier, sailor, airman, and marine that died in service to his or her country.

Good thing the jets don’t do a flyover like at NASCAR races. The pilots would have to eject as they’d run out of fuel.

Perhaps her melismas were inspired by the original drinking song the SSB gets its tune from. Perhaps not. But think about what Francis Scott Key would have done in the the bowels of that boat had he known his song would be butchered as such. That drunk derelict from Federal Hill would never been inspired to deviate from the original words of the song he’d probably been singing at the bar a couple hours earlier.

Don’t get me wrong. Drinking songs invoke the collective spirit, and do not focus on the individual. That’s why this song shows the reverence to the nation. DeLuna needs to keep that in mind. Also, she should consider that if she had performed the Anthem that way to Francis Scott Key while on that boat with him, he would’ve barfed on her shoes. Not pretty.

This was terrible. When she was finally finished it sounded like people were booing. Hubby and I looked at each other- "are they booing?" We didn't think anyone would boo the SSB, but it was sooo bad. I may have booed if I were in the audience too.

Just after 9/11 a bud sent me a link to a video of the WWE/WWF ring annoucer singing the Star Spangled Banner. Not sure of the lady’s name, but she is the ONLY person who should ever be allowed to sing your national anthem.

Lillian Garcia – and yes, she does it well.

One of the best versions I have heard was by the Catcus Cuties. They are a group of 5 young girls no older than about 14.

was eating dinner at the time, and at first I thought it was going to be the usual skat take on it – which my dad, God rest his soul, absolutely hated, being a WWII vet – but it got worser and worser, like my grammar.

The BEST eveh was Ozzy Osbourne singing “Take me out to the Ballgame”. I laughed, until I cried.

The song, in and of itself, is powerful. If she put her heart into it, I say she did what she should have.

If it doesn’t suit your taste, that’s fine — but I think this shows her pride in her country, not in herself.

Perhaps people assume the virtue in others they find in themselves. ;)

I agree with the other posters who say…

1. Give her a break. (And I am an Eagles fan)
2. Whitney Houston had the best rendition.
3. Monday’s performance was actually rather good until the end.

Of course number three is applicable to Donovan McNabb too. His fourth quarter performance has people out there believing that the “none and done” Cowboys are somehow a Super Bowl contender, even though they won’t win a playoff game this year either. Eagles might not win the division, but they will go farther than any NFC East team in the playoffs, which is what counts.
