Video: Born-alive survivor scolds Obama on vote protecting infanticide

posted at 7:14 am on September 16, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

A new pro-life group comes out swinging today, and it chose a powerful spokeswoman for their cause. Gianna Jesson survived a saline abortion 31 years ago, and has fought to stop the barbaric practice of leaving such living infants to die by abortionists unwilling to face the failure of their procedure. Jesson testified in 2001-2 to get Congress to pass the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, and now she joins Born Alive Truth to point the finger at the only current member of the Senate to have voted against such a bill:

In this powerful ad sponsored by BornAliveTruth.org, abortion survivor Gianna Jesson questions Barack Obama for his active opposition as state senator to IL’s Born Alive Infants Protection Act.

Born Alive was introduced to stop IL hospitals from leaving babies who survived their abortions in soiled utility rooms to die. …

Born Alive passed on the federal level overwhelmingly. The abortion group NARAL even expressed neutrality on the bill, which passed unanimously in the U.S. Senate 98-0.

Barack Obama is such an abortion extremist, he has positioned himself to the left of the entire U.S. Senate and NARAL.

If it were up to Obama, Gianna would not be here today.

We have covered Obama’s track record on infanticide in several posts:

Make no mistake about this.  Obama voted four times to protect this barbaric practice, even after hearing direct testimony from a witness about how babies were left to die from neglect after surviving their abortion.  Obama worried more about the burden on the abortionists than he did about the child.

Gianna Jesson shows how heartless and cold those four votes were, and is a living reminder of the countless children that Obama failed to protect — and who aren’t around to make this commercial because of Obama’s success in killing the Illinois bill that would have saved their lives.

Update: Jesson appeared on Hannity & Colmes last night:

Somehow this disgusting truth needs to be spelled out for the average voter- I’ve brought this up in conversations with other women, and they are very skeptical of it being true; They buy the lame explanations that they get from Barry and the MSM.

I think Catholics have to answer for ther support of Obama- It’s total hypocrisy.

anniekc on September 16, 2008 at 7:25 AM

Gianna Jesson is not a “mistake” Mr. Hussein. The LORD made sure she survived to speak. Unfortunately, the baby killing industry crushes the voices of millions of girls and boys…for a dollar.

How does a baby survive an abortion? Do the doctors show up to work drunk or something? I just don’t get it.

SoulGlo on September 16, 2008 at 7:29 AM

Wow. Mother’s Day must be awkward at her house.

S. Weasel on September 16, 2008 at 7:29 AM

You see when her biological mother was 17-years-old and 7-and-a-half months pregnant, she went to a Planned Parenthood clinic to seek a late-term abortion. The abortionist performed a saline abortion on this 17-year-old girl. This procedure requires the injection of a high concentration of saline into the mother’s womb, which the fetus is then bathed in and swallows, which results in the fetus being burned to death, inside and out. Within 24 hours the results are normally an induced, still-born abortion.

As Gianna can testify, the procedure is not always 100 percent effective. Gianna is an aborted late-term fetus who was born alive. The high concentration of saline in the womb for 24 hours resulted in a lack of oxygen to her brain and is the cause of her cerebral palsy.

Saline abortions are rarely used anymore…

She was 2lbs… IIRC, the ones in Christ hospital were done earlier with birth weights being usually between .5lbs to 1.5lbs but IIRC one witness saw a 2-2.5lbs baby…

ninjapirate on September 16, 2008 at 7:30 AM

When a child is born alive in spite of an abortion, it is considered a complication. To call the complication a baby, threatens abortion itself. It is suppose to be a mass of “fetal tissue,” not a living baby. Calling a doctor to help save what the abortionist was trying to destroy, calls into question all of abortion itself.
The living baby is the mortal enemy to supporters of abortion,, as truth is the mortal enemy of the lie.

JellyToast on September 16, 2008 at 7:32 AM

Heard her last night on Hannity while I was driving home…she’s a very powerful spokeswoman with a very touching story that deserves to be told. Since the media won’t touch it–her story will have to get out through all of us.

Matt Helm on September 16, 2008 at 7:33 AM

The Savior is simply trying to decimate the black population. As a group that comprises roughly 13% of our population, blacks have abortions at a rate nearly 3x that of whites and 25% MORE than all other races COMBINED.

csdeven on September 16, 2008 at 7:33 AM

BTW, the abortions at Christ hospital were done by just inducing birth early and letting the baby die out after a few hours…

ninjapirate on September 16, 2008 at 7:34 AM

This is the kind of information that the more shill supporters of B.O. are doing everything they can to suppress.

One group in particular is going after Chicago radio station WGN, especially recently when the station interviewed David Freddoso, author of “The Case Against Barack Obama.” The group is sending out “Obama Action Wires” urging people to protest against WGN.

This kind of nonsense has to be taken on up front and these groups exposed for the mooonbats they really are. I would suggest dropping an email to WGN letting them know their presenting both sides of this election is appreciated and that they should ignore the actions of shill groups like the bunch going after them right now.

Quite the contrary Drywall, some of us have made our peace with the presence of “abortion”. I myself am rather a moderate voice on the matter and at most feel it should devolve back to the state rather than have a specious and ill-reasoned “invisible ink constitutional protection”. I draw the line at infanticide which your brown-eyed boy defends. That he took so few hard positions on controversial matters in the Illinois State Senate is worth note, BUT that he took a stand on this issue shows it is either close to his heart or he understood that in the democratic party it is not a source of controversy.

Neither is a good thing.

SoulGlo on September 16, 2008 at 7:29 AM

The same way people get pregnant when they use birth control. Life is a powerful system that goes beyond what the medical world and political understand as far as the sheer will to continue. The conditions that babies were born into say 10K years ago did not stop the presence of mankind. The fact that life struggles so hard against so many odds to have a chance makes the crime of abortion so much more repulsive.

Not that I disagree with the premise of this blog post or that I believe that the story won’t have an impact on some voters who concern themselves with character, but just as Sarah Palin’s views on abortion are fairly immaterial due to the lack of POTUS input into the issue, Obama’s are likewise immaterial. You can argue that he will appoint liberal, legislating judges, but he’d do that regardless of the abortion issue. From a purely political perspective, this issue is a non-starter.

OTOH, as an ardent lifer, I cannot imagine the circumstances under which I would pull the lever for someone with views as repulsive as Obama’s.

No Drywall, the level of injustice is simply too big to be fixed without blood on the scale that fixed slavery. I am guilty of many things but wanting 35 million dead to scale the 600,000 dead of the US Civil War is not one of them. One cannot look at a blastula and say “this is a child that can live if we care for it”, one cannot take a second trimester child until past the midway point and say “this child can make it” so as an accomadation to reality I grant the mother her chance at wickedness, by the third trimester there is no argument the baby is a viable thinking entity that responds to stimulus. In my younger and more passionate days I would have supported harsher measures but as I’ve aged I have learned to make allowances and fight the battles that can be fought.

You may not have issue with a viable fetus being expelled and left to die alone and uncared for in a dustbin or closet.

I do, it is why we will beat your kind into dust.

There are 42 million potential donks voters that are dead.

We do what we can when we can every day. It becomes a major issue every four years because the POTUS is responsible for nominating candidates for SCOTUS, which created this mess in the first place and which, given a majority of strict constructionists, will do the only right thing and overturn Roe v Wade.

According to the lefties that I have talked to about this issue, Obama refused to sign the bill because it was a thinly veiled attempt to change state abortion law. Nobody can tell me how exactly, just that the right will somehow change it into an anti-abortion bill.

They also state that Illinois law already stated that children born as the result of an abortion attempt were already to be given care. This is not entirely true. Sustainable children born alive in the course of an abortion attempt were to be given care. Non-sustainable children were what? Medical waste?

Any thought I ever had in my mind about voting for Obama were completely wiped out when I heard his flip-flopping excuses for not helping pass this bill. (Well that and the fact that he chose a running mate who lies about a drunk driver killing his wife and child to garner sympathy votes.)

canopfor on September 16, 2008 at 8:17 AM

What are you suggesting? That the legality of an issue gives it moral weight?

Wow. Slavery was legal once, too.

As for inaction, being a part of that silent majority that prays for God’s grace in the hearts of mothers and weeps for the slaughtered unborn – there’s more action there than in a thousand protests.

No, I am not saying that. I am saying pro-choice people have fought their fight and won.

As for you praying for grace or something, how’s that working out for you? How many babies have been aborted since you started praying? You should probably re-evaluate your little game plan.

Hotair people are the first to say I’ve been in the military or I’ve written my congressman or I’ve done this or that to help support whatever cause. So let’s hear it – what have you done to fight abortion?

Dave Rywall on September 16, 2008 at 8:20 AM

Pretty simple.

Dave Rywall on September 16, 2008 at 8:16 AM

Bwahahahahaha!!!

http://www.redstate.com/diaries/redstate/2008/aug/21/in-2002-barack-obama-supported-infanticide-a/

I found this very useful.

Abortion is one topic I have tended to avoid. However, this born-alive, let’em die” garbage is beyond my tolerance point. A small, helpless being–a HUMAN being–is laying there, suffering pain beyond what most can imagine. Try though: your raw skin covered by salt water. You are left there to suffer and die. THINK ABOUT IT!

I’d like to see an abortion debate go down this way:

First, the pro-abortion advocate gives their little spiel, while the pro-life person (who must be a doctor for this to work) sits quietly, respectfully listening.

When it comes the opponent’s turn, there’s a surprise: The doctor unrolls a cloth with pouches holding various cutting tools, alcohol, bandages, etc., as well as a bottle of saline. The doctor explains he or she would like to demonstrate how such an abortion affects the fetus by removing some of the opposite number’s skin and submerging it in the saline.

All the pertinent legal paperwork for consent and liability release will already be prepared, ready for the opposing advocate’s submission and signature. If the opponent agrees, great. Proceed with the demonstration. If the opponent refuses, the doctor can ask for volunteers from among those in the audience supporting the pro-abortion side.

Of course, there are variations on this, but hopefully you get the gist. Yes, it is over the top and cruel. Ain’t it great?!!

Whatcha think?

You haven’t gotten it yet. Davey doesn’t believe what he writes. He waits for a subject, then writes something controversial so people take notice of him.
He is a lonely person seeking attention. He has been doing this for a few months. He is in heaven since HA had open registration, most of us were ignoring his comments, now he has new posters that haven’t quite caught on, or don’t have the restraint to ignore his foolish rants.
Let him post, and don’t respond, it isn’t worth it. He has no value.

right2bright on September 16, 2008 at 8:21 AM

Now that would be an outstanding ad for McCain- To show a snippet of his gloom and doom speech on the economy, and then focus on his elite fundraiser with that sea hag Streisand. Then go back to an average American who’s trying to decide between gas and groceries. Talk about out of touch.

How many times does this have to be repeated before it sinks into your thick Canadian skull? The pro-choicers “won” because the matter was settled by the SCOTUS, not because they convinced other Americans to vote for it. Stupid canuck.

Just another person who half gives a sh*t about opposing abortion. Come back when you’ve done something to fight it besides try to sound smart on an anonymous internet political site.

Dave Rywall on September 16, 2008 at 8:15 AM

When the opposition’s next move is to resort to complete fabrications, shaky accusations, or rhetorical assumptions, it’s obvious that they are not aware of their current condition.

There is a formality required and should be used to help this poster understand his position. Forgive this novice, and gently say:

Saltysam on September 16, 2008 at 8:25 AM

How does a baby survive an abortion? Do the doctors show up to work drunk or something? I just don’t get it.

SoulGlo on September 16, 2008 at 7:29 AM

Actually in this case, the doctor had left. When the baby came out alive, the nurse dialled 911.

4shoes on September 16, 2008 at 8:28 AM

So what have you done about it in your entire life? Because you claim to care about it so, so much.

Dave Rywall on September 16, 2008 at 7:52 AM

Are you against adultery, murder, child pornography, theft, rape, etc.? If you are, what have you done to combat these things?

(In case you missed it, your logic doesn’t make sense).

HYTEAndy on September 16, 2008 at 8:28 AM

I heard Gianna Jesson speak at a fundraiser for Birth Choices, a charity that helps unwed mothers and fights abortion. There were perhaps 500 people in the room, yet no one made a sound during her talk, most couldn’t control their tears. She is a living breathing reminder of the horror that is abortion, not just these botched late-term abortions. Regardless of when an abortion is performed, it is a murder of a human being! I hope Gianna is on every talk show in America between now and election day.

flyfisher on September 16, 2008 at 8:31 AM

This has to fall under the heading of “Give me a frigging break!” I just noticed a story on Drudge about Obama rolling out, “FAITH MERCHANDISE” and “BELIEVERS FOR BARACK” Oh gag me. The audacity and hypocrisy of his campaign is unprecedented. How do they justify having any connection to “FAITH” with his history of religous abuse?
I wonder if there’s a picture of Jeremiah Wright on that merchandise.

emailnuevo on September 16, 2008 at 8:15 AM

The similarities of the abortion argument to the slavery argument are many.

For one, that war’s footing was induced with a bad SCOTUS decision too.

Saltysam on September 16, 2008 at 8:33 AM

“No, I am not saying that. I am saying pro-choice people have fought their fight and won.”

What have they won? Dead children. Condemning most of them to empty, pointless lives. Bitter, barren, irrelevant screeches howling against the world.

And whether their precious Democrats get elected or not, they continue to be bitter, irrelevant and miserable.

Nothing more bitter and empty than a 40+ pro-choice fanatic woman. Used and abused and none of it by “choice”.

They didn’t “fight” either. They stood by, impotently, while our robed masters hallucinated the right to privacy into the Constitution. They didn’t advance their cause a centimeter.

“How many babies have been aborted since you started praying? You should probably re-evaluate your little game plan.”

How many people have you convinced by wasting your time on this website? No one has been the least bit persuaded by the nonsense you spew. Keep it up though, people like you are driving people in droves to the Republicans and you are one of the reasons why Barry Obama will blow the election this fall.

So you do make a difference. Put a smile on your face.
