Video: Obama spokesman won’t deny he knew McCain’s injuries limited his computer use

posted at 1:41 pm on September 15, 2008 by Allahpundit

Via the Standard, Hemmer sinks his teeth in and won’t let go. Sounds like what happened is they did their research, stumbled across the Globe piece from 2000 claiming McCain couldn’t use a keyboard because of his wounds, then stumbled across the NYT interview from this summer where he talks about using a computer and learning to go online and assumed the problem must have been resolved through some sort of technological advance in the eight-year interim.

Clearly a risk worth taking for a line of attack this dorktastic.

He was Director of the Senate Navy Liason office and Reached rank of Captain in Navy.

What did Obama do again? Let’s see, he was a community organizer, a law student (and law review editor), an associate at a law firm, a professor of Constitutional law, a state senator (brief) and U.S. Senator (brief) – - Executive material, no?

I listened to McCain for a bit this morning in fl. he offered to townhall Obama again and said he would even pay for the plane to meet, wouldn’t fly it but would pay for it the crowd went nuts.

…John McCain’s whining about his minor injuries are an insult to every soldier who was really wounded and the families of those soldiers who were killed in Vietnam.

Will the Right ever get tired of playing the victim card?

I think not…I am desperately trying to hijack yet another SUPERB HA thread to take the heat off my BFF BHO. Please allow my obvious hyperbole to provoke dozens of comments in defense of the unmistakable heroism of John McCain. IGNORING ME will diminish my effect and CAUSE ME TO RETREAT BACK INTO OBSCURITY. Edward R. MarkTheGreat on September 15, 2008 at 2:49 PM

Obama’s spokesman is going to criticize McCain for saying the fundamentals of the economy are strong. I guess the only thing acceptable for Obama is if McCain gets up there and causes a panic by telling everybody that the sky is falling.

McCain will not cause a financial panic for political gain.

McCain would rather lose and election than have the US lose a war.

Barack Obama has no such reluctance. He will cause a financial panic for short term political gain. He will gladly have tens of thousands of people lose everything they own if it gets him half a point in the public opinion polls. And we already know that Barack Obama was only too happy to hand a victory to the despicable Al Qaeda in order to score cheap points off the Bush Administration.

This is the difference between McCain and Obama. McCain is in this thing to serve his country, even at his own expense. Barack Obama is in this thing for his own advancement, and doesn’t give a damn what happens to the country.

Actually, if you listen to his friends, hurting this country is an end in itself.

Alphie is entitled to her opinion, but not only is she factually incorrect, but she infects the body politic with a kind of poison in this case that is not only offensive, but damaging.

I’m not a great fan of McCain the Presidential candidate, but he is a good American and shouldn’t have his bravery and honor maligned here by one member of the large army of silly twits who inhabit the left. How many planes did McCAin lose in the Navy, cano?

3, 4?

What a clown.

alphie on September 15, 2008 at 2:19 PM

That would be one, an A-4, thanks to a an NVA SA-2 SAM. He was in his jet on the USS Forrestal when a Zuni rocket launched accidentally launched from another aircraft on the flight deck and hit a fully fueled and bomb ladened jet starting the whole thing.

Your point being in previous posts that McCain is lazy and that he uses his war wounds as an excuse and that this is an insult to all veterans. First, it is the truth that it is painful for him to type (heck, it’s painful for me to type with my fat fingers on my Mac laptop, I cannot begin to image his pain). Second, if you don’t need to do it why do it if it is painful (by the way, it is used to be called a “typing pool”). Third, he stated this back in the early 1980’s, not as an excuse but as the truth. Fourth, Obama’s camp was the one that has brought it up, for the wrong reasons – see my post above – and McCain’s camp as far as I know is keeping silent on it; the bloggers are the ones correctly crucifying this false messiah over it. Fifth, if the wounded vets are so insulted, why are we not hearing them? Sixth, please think before you speak.

I haven’t seen what you are talking about, but McCain often does look really really white. He uses sunscreen and wears hats because of his cancer and he is often the whitest man alive.

Maybe his campaign decided the summer was over and haven’t been using make-up or something. This is a long term problem and the Media probably isn’t doing this.

bill30097 on September 15, 2008 at 3:46 PM

I think “alphie” and its ilk cannot even conceptualize the heroism of John McCain and why it matters in evaluating the character of he who would occupy the oval office.

John McCain is a man who has arguably already MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE for his country, but he was one of the few who lived to tell about it. As a POW in the Hanoi Hilton, given the daily onslaught of starvation, beatings, and enduring the most sadistic inhuman tortures anyone could imagine, one could easily presume his own imminent death and therefore go through the mental and spiritual preparations necessary for death, and come to grips with it.

Despite the mental and physical torture endured daily for over 5 years, McCain never succumbed to his captors – he bravely defied them and fought back at them however he could, all while knowing the blade could fall on his neck at any moment.

That, my friends – is COURAGE. It is a special level of courage and character that I WANT IN MY PRESIDENT.

Miserable, self-absorbed little twits like Alphie (liberals) can’t even conceptualize courage like this, and are thus not fit to lick the boots of a man like McCain.

Fishoutofwater on September 15, 2008 at 3:46 PM

McCain’s wounds resulted from his 23rd bombing run in which his continuing mission was to blow up as many Communists and their stuff as possible. Therefor, the left thinks they can justifiably make light of them.

BUBBA REDNECK: The First Amendment prohibits any governmental proscription of free speech. That amendment does not apply to HotAir, as HotAir is not a governmental body. HotAir can regulate what happens here, the government cannot.

ALPHIE does not add anything that helps others understand the left’s point of view. He ridicules a man, whatever his politics may be, who served and sacrificed for his country — heroically.

Since Alphie has only belittled a great man, which adds nothing to an “understanding of the issues” then I second JiangxiDad.

Some contributors from the left add viewpoints here. They are welcomed and critiqued. Alphie just ridicules a great man. That wastes all of our time here.

Air Heads like Mr. Burton cannot ever answer a simple question because they have no intention of even answering it and do not know the answer anyway . They just want to babel on and on and do not care about listening to anyone except themselves.

Burton is simply a nasty person. He knows the truth, but is so despicable and desperate to help his candidate that he will deliberately lie and mislead to hurt a person who continually bends over backwards to not engage in race-based or similar low and unseemly attacks.

I just hope the rest of the country will see exactly who the Democrats and far left really are.

Will the Right ever get tired of playing the victim card?

This is incredibly funny, given that the left invented the “victim card,” and that they play it (from the bottom of the deck) every chance they get.

Without execution of the “victim” card over the decades, the left would have no constituencies to speak of.

There’s people without arms that use the computer rather well, hell I saw a guy on TV without any arms playing table poker, so his injuries are no excuse especially considering his job. Why not just say the guy is old and rich and has other people to learn those new technologies? Didn’t he say that he “watches the internet”? Frankly if McCain is going to be regulating the stuff, cripple or not, he should have a staffer show him the ropes. I don’t care if he has no arms or legs and a bad eye, the guy is a Senator and should at least pretend to know this stuff.
