New Obama ad: Hey, McCain’s a liar
posted at 11:10 am on September 15, 2008 by Allahpundit
See Kaus for why this is “a total loser strategy,” paying particular attention to 5(b). If, after a week of saturation coverage of Lipstickgate, you want to whine about the other guy’s nastiness, it would behoove you to offer concrete examples at least (McCain’s sex-ed ad, etc.). As it is, this plays less like a rebuttal of an attack ad than an attack ad itself, offering one vague media tsk-tsk pullquote after another. Note to Obama: The public knows they’re in the tank. Reminding them that the press disapproves of McCain’s tactics is about as dazzling as telling them that Howard Dean disapproves, too. In fact, it’s even lamer than it appears. Ben Smith notes that “Benen” of “CBS News” listed here is actually nutroots blogger Steve Benen, formerly of the Carpetbagger Report and now of the lefty rag Washington Monthly. His only connection to CBS appears to be that the site publishes his posts occasionally in its opinion section — as it does for a bunch of other opinion journals, including NRO. Even Team Barry can’t be bothered distinguishing the media from its cheering section anymore.
Ironically, it was the media’s Obama obsession that nudged McCain down this road, beginning with the mockery of the Britney ad. Spokesman Brian Rogers:
Rogers, who hung tough with McCain through the dark days of the primary and has lived through every high and low of this turbulent and unpredictable race, argues that they tried to run a high-ground campaign and sought to keep the candidate in front of the media in the fashion he enjoys. His point: No one paid any attention.
“We ran a different kind of campaign and nobody cared about us. They didn’t cover John McCain. So now you’ve got to be forward-leaning in everything,” he said…
“When he’s sitting in back of a bus and getting questions about Viagra, I think we understand at that point you’ve got to make some tactical adjustments,” he said, recalling a particularly awkward gotcha-of-the-day moment on McCain’s bus in early July.
Exit question: What’s the smart move for The One now? Start fight fight fighting back with ever more egregious distortions of his own, per the counsel of the fightin’ nutroots, or simply ignore Maverick from now on and talk all economy, all the time? The worst thing about this ad is that it keeps the national spotlight on McCain (and of course Palin), which isn’t a position the world’s biggest celebrity can long afford.

Yes, we are.
Frankly, we are already looking past McCain, to 2012, when we get to run Sarah Palin at the top of the ticket.
Q: How much damage could McCain do in four years?
A: A Hell of a lot less than Obama.

Y’all should be thanking the magic bunny or whatever your superstitions deify that John F. McCain doesn’t have to defend his gigolo economics in the face of our financial meltdown.
And that Palin may be able to hide for months before she has to answer a “What would you do to fix the U.S. economy?” question.
Can you imagine?

Great point.
Isn’t it wonderful when you can get your opponent to proudly proclaim the things you want to accuse him of?
Swordlessness. OODA loops. This really is a 4th-generation political campaign.
ClintACK on September 15, 2008 at 12:17 PM
Hire alphie, maybe?
No, the best move for Osama Obama would be to drop out now, before the MSM slips up and mentions Rezko, Wright, Ayers, Dohrn, missing/falsified documents, Mayor Daley, Karl Marx, Saul Alinsky or pushing earmarks for his big contributors.
Hell, they might even screw up and say something about a nice, fat Logan Act violation if they’re not careful….
MrScribbler on September 15, 2008 at 12:19 PM
Hey, you know how McCain could avoid be called a liar?
By not lying.

Enrique on September 15, 2008 at 12:21 PM
Are you trying to prove your case by pointing people to an article at REASON?
Or we could ask Michelle Obama as she would be just as objective.
Elizabetty on September 15, 2008 at 12:23 PM
He’s lying because he’s a liar because he’s lying. Don’t you people know what logic is?
Jim Treacher on September 15, 2008 at 12:24 PM
I suppose that when your such an “EGO” any drop of criticism about your endless flaws send you cascading over the edge of decency, right MR Hussein??
I’ve always believed that your a product of your environment. Obama proves that if you dwell with scum you eventually start turning into it.
cdn.infidel on September 15, 2008 at 12:29 PM
If you want to make the case that someone is lying, there’s a traditional, tried-and-true, three step method:
1) Show a specific quote from the alleged “liar”.
2) Show that the statement is objectively false.
3) Show that the alleged “liar” knew that it was false.
Screaming “liar” every time someone disagrees with you about anything is neither productive nor, dare I say it, honest.
ClintACK on September 15, 2008 at 12:30 PM
….. applying logic to a liberal.
Shame on you.

Heh, Geraghty with an excellent line about this ad:
Queasy on September 15, 2008 at 12:32 PM
When Obama tells the truth, it’s a story.
Although to be fair, the guy’s so completely wet behind the ears, he probably has a difficult time knowing what’s true and what isn’t. Like most other five year olds.
NoDonkey on September 15, 2008 at 12:39 PM
What’s wrong Cwac? Can’t you handle a differing viewpoint? And is that a death threat?
Jeez. Lighten up.

I am very afraid of what the media may do to this country between now and November in order to push their man over the finish line:
- push recession hype even harder, if possible, including releasing sensitive financial information a la Chuck Shumer, designed to result in the failure of institutions?
- circulate even more bizarre allegations against McCain and Palin (including romantic involvements, even with each other)?
- incite race riots?
- foment international tensions by hyping anti-American allegations?
- expose classified information previously agreed to be kept secret?
- mine Hillary’s FBI files?
- support the censoring of conservative books, movies (as if) and TV shows?
- help Obama find a pretense to cancel the debates?
- hide fore-knowlege of an AQ action causing mass casualties in our forces in Iraq or Afghanistan, in order to report it spectacularly?
- publicize faked pictures and videos of McCain and Palin making racist statements?
- help create a faked assasination conspiracy against Obama?
I wish the above list qualified as “paranoid”, but I don’t think the MSM is above doing any or all of those things. As it become more obvious to all that Obama is in trouble, there are going to be some in the media who will be willing to take desparate measures, even ones extremely prejudicial to American interests, security, and safety.
I hope I am wrong, but I am afraid I may not be.
drunyan8315 on September 15, 2008 at 12:48 PM
The ad is what people who don’t have an argument do when they start to figure out how badly wrong they are.
I see this all the time: on Saturday, for example, I did
a column on the IT outage at the London Stock Exchange suggesting that the buck stops at the top – and got 70+ comments, most of them mere rants based on the writer’s perception that this was an Anti-Windows comment (Because the LSE bought Windows software to run their trading).
It’s absurd, but it’s human: attacking the messenger is what people do in last ditch emotional stands.

Truth, Obama Sold Out his own constituents in his district to his Slumlord friend of 17 years Tony Rezko(that is now a convicted felon) this slumlord could NOT pay to heating bills the buildings during the cold Chicago winters but he could pay Obama bribes! he gave Obama bribes and hush money in the form of campaign cash, , and the media is covering it up for him.
Obama got elected by getting everyone he ran against thrown off the ballot..
Upstanding Community Organizer? Or Sell out?
Selling out the people that he was supposed to be representing.
Hope and Change?
I bet those people in those Projects Hoped that the heat would come back on but it never did, thanks to Rezko and Obama.. and the Change that they got was an eviction notice when their apartments got condemned.

Well! On any day, Jack Benny was more of a man than Barrack Obama.
However, I must admit that when Obama whines, I can just hear Jack playing the world’s smallest violin.

Barack Obama: I trusted Rezko
Senator says friend raised more money than previously known
If Rezko Duped him for 17 years, and Rev. Wright Duped him for 20 years, and William Ayers continues to dupe him to this day, could Iran and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad dupe him for a few years and get a nuclear bomb?
Not a risk that America Nor Israel can take.

I don’t think it was McCain making fun of veterans with disabilities… no sir, I believe it was Obama doing that, it was Obama that approved that message.

Comedy, something that is usually not lost on most people when they read comments on a page.
