Whoopi to McCain: “Do I have to be worried about becoming a slave again?”

The ‘Busters have the transcript. This isn’t quite the offensive idiocy it might seem at first blush; she’s asking a (mostly) rhetorical question about constitutional theory to challenge McCain’s stance on Roe, i.e. whether following the Founders’ intent is such a hot idea given that their Enlightenment views weren’t quite fully enlightened. One possible answer: We can correct the Founders through the amendment process. That’s what we should have done to legalize abortion and that’s what we did to ban slavery. Or did you miss that lesson in first-grade history, Whoopi? McCain’s response: Hey, good point! Groan.

Still, insofar as you don’t often see questioners shameless enough to ask Republicans whether they want to bring back slavery (even on MSNBC), it’s a golden TV moment. Exit question: If McCain’s uncontrollable rage is 1/1000th as bad as the left would have you believe, shouldn’t his righteous indignation at being asked this have sent him into an Incredible Hulk-ish meltdown?

“Liberalism is a mental disorder”. It’s so true!

SouthernGent on September 12, 2008 at 5:56 PM

Idiot.

Every heard of Plessy v. Fergusson? I guess you want to go back to court-mandated segregation, since all court decisions should be maintained inviolate.

The 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments are part of the Constitution.

You want a Constitutionally-protected right to put a fork in your baby’s brains, then pass a damned Amendment.

Moron.

“I dunno. If Obama’s elected, do I have to worry about being imprisoned in a communist regime again?”

saint kansas on September 12, 2008 at 6:26 PM

Well, Whoopie, (misspelling intentional), if your guy, Obama, with his compulsory ‘public service’ programs, gets elected there will be a return to slavery.

And as his li’l wifey said:

Barack Obama will require you to work….
Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual.

But I’m sure he would give YOU an exemption, Whoopie.

Whining rants of “raaaaaaaaacism!” in 3…2…1…

Whoopi Goldberg asked, “do I have to worry about becoming a slave again?”

POSSIBLE RESPONSES:

#1 “Becoming a slave AGAIN? DAMN, for being 150 years old, I wanna know who your plastic surgeon is, Whoopi!

#2 HEY, some of you Hollywood people pay extra for the craziest things!”

#3 “Why? You wanna be…?!”

Oh sweet sweet Lordie he/she is a freak, Slavery is alive and well today called taxes , she is such a dumb broad (err dude) why is he/she on the view again I thought it was a ladies show? Lost some respect for McCain for appearing there ughhh, and if Palin drops one foot on that stage I may rethink about voting for the ticket it will be the only arugment for poor judgement on her behalf.

PiggieSez on September 12, 2008 at 7:47 PM

Woop, Shut the hell up. Thanks.

Over.

One of the problems we have in our country is ignorance of the basics of our government. I wonder how many people hearing that exchange quickly thought that SCOTUS can change the Constitution?

Everyone should know that SCOTUS interprets the law based on the Constitution. They answer the question of whether or not the laws and cases brought before them conforms to the Constitution.

Politicians should be looking for and/or approving people who understand that the only document they use when reviewing the legal arguments presented to them is the Constitution.

Wildcatter1980 on September 12, 2008 at 8:55 PM

It’s not clear to me when Whoopi was a slave before. What was her question, ” should I have to worry about being returned to slavery?”
I thought most of the people in the US that were actually slaves were already dead, the last year of slavery was in 1865, so assuming she were born into slavery in 1865, she would have to be at least 143 years old. If she is, she’s holding up well. I’m also relatively sure that John McCain doesn’t own a plantation so why would he be interested in people becoming slaves?

Redteam on September 12, 2008 at 9:02 PM

I swear if your not a lefty liberal, or for that matter jewish it seems your not going to have a job no more in that industry….

you want to know what is really strange about that?
the lefties are the ones that would throw Israel under the bus if they get the chance, but for some reason the Jews like them and support them. Why they support each other in hollywood is baffling.

Redteam on September 12, 2008 at 9:55 PM

You never were a slave Whoopi. Stop denigrating the challenges faced by millions of people in the past who were truly slaves–and even some who face it today in those wonderfully cultures you lefties like so much–Communism and Islam.

You, Whoopi, are a rich, foul-mouthed, washed-up, coddled, ignoramus.

Because he’s running for President and there’s some benefit going on these stupid shows because they have large audiences of the kind of voter McCain hopes will be attracted by his choice of Palin.

highhopes on September 12, 2008 at 2:57 PM

Dumb move. Wrong audience to try and win over…

eanax on September 12, 2008 at 10:43 PM

John McCain doesn’t own a plantation so why would he be interested in people becoming slaves?
Redteam on September 12, 2008 at 9:02 PM

Besides, it is cheaper to let ‘brown people’ sneak in and work cheap, than it is to turn ‘black people’ into slaves.

LegendHasIt on September 12, 2008 at 10:51 PM

No “groan” – McCain did exactly what grown men are supposed to do whenever they come face-to-face with obvious slobbering nutcases: Tell them they “have an excellent point,” then back away… slowly.. and live to fight another day, while coming across as somebody even Joy Behar might even invite to her next dinner dinner party. Has this interview been on the front pages, and at the top of the hours, on all the major papers and cable channels as proof of John McCain’s desire to enslave the Negroes again, or to “force women back into alleys with cothangers?”

No, and that’s just as Steve Schmidt designed it.

Carry on…

Whoopi was a slave? How old is she?!?!

E L Frederick (Sniper One) on September 12, 2008 at 11:07 PM

As Rush said today Whoopi is a slave to the liberal movement.

Mojave Mark on September 12, 2008 at 11:51 PM

Why did McC even do that stupid show? What’s the point? Screw those clowns!

TheCulturalist on September 13, 2008 at 1:17 AM

What Whoopi doesn’t understand is that McCain by vowing to nominate strict constructionists is the candidate that would best protect people from slavery. If judges are allowed to legislate from the bench who’s to say some strange twist of fate wouldn’t have judges saying the 13th amendment is part of a “living document” and subject to interpretation.

imshocked on September 13, 2008 at 1:34 AM

1) Whoopi is not stupid.

2) Whoopi’s question, on the other hand, scaled new heights of inanity

3) A few more questions like that, and I will have to rethink point #1

theregoestheneighborhood on September 13, 2008 at 4:07 AM

The Left seems to take a weird pride in not understanding constitutional law.

That’s what the Burger court did in ‘73 – they just cut out the middle man.

Whoopi was a slave? How old is she?!?!

E L Frederick (Sniper One) on September 12, 2008 at 11:07 PM

She’s a slave to ignorance and stupidity. Ron White said you cant fix stupid and I’m inclined to agree with him.

abcurtis on September 13, 2008 at 9:36 AM

There are those who are ignorant, and then there are those who are willfully deceptive. Which one do you suppose Whoopi is? Does she really believe that the president/ vice president can overturn Roe v Wade by fiat, or decree slavery to be legal again? That would be stupendous ignorance, which I find highly unlikely.
More likely, she is being willfully deceptive, playing to and leading the truly ignorant to score cheap political points.
How classy.

OneEyedJack on September 13, 2008 at 10:01 AM

What whould make her say such a thing, even rhetorically? I used to like her just as I used to like Oprah once upon a time. Why do African Americans need to spend so much time dwelling on race? Even when they are successful way beyond average, it seems to take front and center. Surely there’s more to their lives than that?

jeanie on September 13, 2008 at 10:38 AM

The harpies of The View once again live up to their stone ignorance but, McCain’s apology should have been rightly stated as; “I’m sorry you don’t understand the meaning of the term ’strict constructionist’ where in fact slavery was abolished through an amendment to our Constitution which are acts of our other two branches of government and certainly not through judicial activism which violates our separation of powers but, I appreciate the opportunity you just gave me to clear that up for anyone else who also didn’t know.”

However, this was not McCain’s response.

Winghunter on September 13, 2008 at 12:15 PM

John and Cindy’s appearance on this illiterate show only gave it credibility it doesn’t deserve. This is an excellent example as to why, as a women, I always hung out with the guys.
A more perfect example of trailer trash was never exhibited. Add that personification of trailer trash, P. Anderson with the sticky eyelashes and it’s a trailer park, not a TV show.

hopefloats on September 13, 2008 at 12:57 PM

Whoopi Goldberg is a five-star imbecile, a glittering jewel of colossal ignorance. What Whoopi doesn’t realize is that she’s already a slave. She’s a slave to liberalism. She is a slave to ignorance. She is an arrogant, condescending pseudo-informed and educated person who has no clue that she’s already a slave. So don’t worry about it, Whoopi. You’re already a slave.

sayabule1 on September 13, 2008 at 1:31 PM

Wow Woop. Just how much acid did you drop back in 70’s?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Exactly! Only trouble is, it’s aready been done.

When Roe v Wade ruled that the 14th Amendment applies only to “legal” persons, it thereby excluded Blacks and returned them to the Dred Scott definition – human livestock. The Thirteenth Amedment doesn’t ban involuntary servitude of livestock. Thus, without the 14th Amendment meaning “biological persons”, Black slavery is still permissible since Blacks are Constitutionally defined as livestock.

There were 100 years of legal precedent that were undone when Roe v Wade ruled that the 14th amendment doesn’t apply to merely “biological” humans such as Blacks (as define by the SCOTUS in Dred Scott and never Constitutionally redefined).
