“Tough” new Obama ad: Old man doesn’t use e-mail

posted at 12:20 pm on September 12, 2008 by Allahpundit

Here’s what it looks like when The One “takes off the gloves.”

Frankly, I thought the previous 15 or so times he “took off the gloves” were much more effective. As it is, over at TNR, John Judis can’t hide his embarrassment. What’s especially stupid about the spot is that it’s a line of attack with a lot more downside than upside: No one outside of The One’s core nutroots constituency is going to be offended at the thought of McCain relying on one of his thousand aides or secretaries to answer messages, but there may be some offense taken by the 20 percent of Americans who don’t use e-mail themselves — many of whom are no doubt senior citizens.

And senior citizens are known for high turnout, aren’t they, Barry?

Exit question: If Internet savvy is a basic qualification for leadership in the modern age, how can it be that Billy Jeff — still a major figure in the Democratic Party and the head of an influential global charity — sent exactly two e-mails as president and remains offline to this day?

His mother died of ovarian cancer, so I don’t think he can contract that in spite of sometimes behaving as if he has ovaries. :-)

A first-degree relative with ovarian or uterine cancer can elevate a man’s risk of colon cancer. The study cited is old, but large.

Hey, how about if McCain is like Reagan and Bush I and has sent lots of letters…do a commercial from some of the receipents about how he values the personal touch instead of cold emails!

deedledee on September 12, 2008 at 4:17 PM

Stupid ad.

Terrye on September 12, 2008 at 4:58 PM

Wow. That’s really… pathetic.

crazy_legs on September 12, 2008 at 5:21 PM

Pathetic is right…

It reminds me of a thread over at Pajamas Media awhile back, in which some (sorry to ruffle some feathers here) dumb*ss techno geek floated the premise, “what we need is a tech-literate president.”

Thankfully, most of the posters reminded him of the fact that understanding the larger issues which effect our lives – just as having a flashlight, pencil and paper, and radio “in case” for the rest of us – was much more important as a criterion for selecting the next president.

Lockstein13 on September 12, 2008 at 5:35 PM

McCain should come out with an ad of people, probably Seniors, saying I don’t use the internet or send emails but I do worry about….(insert topics) and I think age is a state of mind. Oh, and I do vote. And I’m voting for McCain Palin.

Deanna on September 12, 2008 at 5:39 PM

McCain doesn’t know how to use a computer. Does Obama know how to fly a jet fighter?

Tantor on September 12, 2008 at 6:03 PM

Just a thought, but what or who’s vote is obama going after?
Not the Military, not the seniors, not white folks, not Italians, not Pro-life, not Christian, not the working woman…so who??

christene on September 12, 2008 at 6:05 PM

The email comment is dumb. In the course of a Presidential term, how many emails do you actually think a President would send on his own, with all the staff he would have around him?

golfer39 on September 12, 2008 at 6:22 PM

Obama is endorsed by Hamas, Hezbolla, and the American Communist Party – - that’s all I need to know to vote for McCain/Palin !!!

golfer39 on September 12, 2008 at 6:27 PM

An example of Obama’s tough diplomacy in action, no doubt.

You got that Vladdy-boy? Better hustle your tuckus back over the Georgia line, or we’ll get downright passive-aggressive with you. Might even end up with some good old-fashioned pouting and sulking. Could be tears involved, you big meanie.

spmat on September 12, 2008 at 6:32 PM

1. Biden has been in Washington longer than McCain.
2. Biden is only 6 years younger than McCain.

Then why is Biden on Obama’s ticket??

golfer39 on September 12, 2008 at 6:33 PM

“The reason he doesn’t send email is that he can’t use a keyboard because of the relentless beatings he received from the Viet Cong in service to our country. From the Boston Globe (March 4, 2000):

McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain’s severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain’s encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He’s an avid fan – Ted Williams is his hero – but he can’t raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball. ”

Yep. They’ve attacked McCain for being a wounded veteran.

Methinks the hardhitting Obama team should have researched WHY McCain doesn’t use a computer, huh?

:D

Liberals always pass judgement on people. F*cking jerks.

You guys are listening to Mark Levin, too, eh? I was about to type the same thing. :)

Obama: “OMG, McCain is so like not cool.”

Mrs. Happy Housewife on September 12, 2008 at 8:18 PM

regarding the final update …

the obama team can’t defend itself on the basis that mccain uses the computer when their ad already mocked him for not using the computer. boxed in again.

I find that heartbreaking. :-(

That makes me sad, too — ever since President Taft, the President always throws out the first ball of the season. I’m sure that’s a duty he’d love to take on. Do you suppose he could sidearm it?

Or I suppose Sarah could throw it! :-) Not the same thing, but extremely cool nonetheless.

Oh and would someone just one time please ask Barry why we should believe he knows a damn thing about the economy?

No need for him to be aware of free markets and all of that capitalist mush… OBummer’s economic outlook can be summed up thusly: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.

electric-rascal on September 12, 2008 at 10:00 PM

I think we need to start an “Obama FootInTheMouth Meter” to track The One’s stupidity.

Prior to this one, The One’s right foot had been in his mouth just a couple of inches above the knee . . .

After this one, Obama’s finished with the right foot (and leg entirely), and has begun to shove the left one down his throat as well.

Are there any cartoonists out there that can render this. I know that it would be a bit disgusting, what with Obama devouring his appendiges and all, but it would be funny!
