Obama and running mate Joe Biden had planned to campaign together at the rally in Manchester’s Veteran’s Memorial Park. But the campaign decided to scale back the event as the storm battered the Gulf Coast and canceled Biden’s appearance.

Obama asked people to keep the victims in their thoughts and prayers and be ready to help volunteer or donate to relief efforts.

1. 6am Central Time I Googled and Yahoo! searched for Ike update. At the top of the results was an Obama ad that read, “Donate to the Obama campaign. Republicans failed to respond for Katrina.” So THAT’S donating to the relief efforts for Ike, giving the money to Obama’s campaign.

2. The DNC canceled Biden’s appearance today. How fortunate for the Democrats to have Ike to blame for pulling Biden off the stage with their cane around his neck for begging Hillary to PLEASE take his place on the ticket. Pretty please with sugar on top?!

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) had some of his harshest words yet for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Friday, suggesting his colleague lacks the temperament and judgment to be president.

Reid used time on the Senate floor to talk presidential politics,

Reid did did not appear to violate a Senate rule against personal attacks on other senators, and no other senators lodged any immediate complaint. The Senate was largely deserted Friday — there were no scheduled votes, and most members were back in their states.

Dear Barack:

I think your great idea to go negative on McCain/Palin is a stroke of genius. It shows your leadership. Your “lipstick on a Pig” joke was hilarious and probably did you a world of good in the polls. Why not have Michelle stick with that theme (maybe call Sarah a Honkey pig in lipstick) while you concentrate on McCain. Your e-mail ad was brilliant. Buy more air time for it in Florida. Remind the voters that not only can you e-mail, but you did an unforgetable job of announcing your VP by text message at 3 am.
And get Biden out there too. We want to see more of him. Maybe have him address some disabled vets.

Send Father Pfleger after the Catholic vote.

You’ve got a great team that represents you well. Use them. Be more negative. I love watching it.

Good luck with trying to paint a Navy carrier attack bomber pilot as technologically deficient. Maybe one of those geniuses on the Obama staff might have a look at the cockpit sometime.
