Newt Gingrich, former Republican Speaker of the House, blasted the media for its religious intolerance and historical ignorance at the Family Research Council’s Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C….

I think it is just shown that historically that is true…maybe in the future it won’t be, but all that is, has been basically faith based built.
Not required, just that is how it has been, with no change in sight…why would it change? It has worked pretty darn good for a couple of hundred years.

More than a couple of hundred years … I would argue that the place now known as the UK (that collection of islands that was once on the fringes of the civilised world) became strong, stable and influential because of Christian ideas, even though there were many silly ideas intermingled with the authentic Christian ideas.

Those ideas and values then spread out to the place now known as the USA (that block of land that once wasn’t even known in the civilised world) and the USA similarly became strong, stable and influential.

Neither ‘nation’ has ever been remotely close to perfect, but they have both moved to somewhere near the top of the pile of nations and are now falling from those positions for the same reason, namely that both nations have diminished the role of Christian ideas.

Every nation is influenced by some ideas. The further those ideas are from the Christian ones, the worse the nation is. Practically speaking, Christian ideas tend to “work” better than others.

And yes, the public schools carry much of the blame. I have encountered many teachers who feel no qualms about mocking Christianity and Christians in the classroom.

As for these attacks on Christians. For a long time I have seen an attempt to downplay the Deity of Jesus. Deepak Chopra has a new book which pretty much says Jesus was just a really good man. This is nothing new, I remember something similar when I was in college (gulp!)30 years ago. The difference is that it is more mainstream.

I got a laugh a few minutes ago while listening to Hannity.
A congressman has responded to Rep. Cohen’s comparison of Barack to Jesus on the floor of the house yesterday.

He expressed his offense at the comparison saying, “I know Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ is a personal friend of mine, and Barack Obama is no Jesus Christ.”

Has this election been priceless?!!! I can’t remember a more fascinating race for the WH and I must admit that now that the Republicans are back in it, I am having fun. :)

Newt is right on here; Academia strives to remove any sembelence of religion from their secular-progressive utopia

Even a lot of commentators on the right have not only forgotten God, but go so far as to sneer and mock at Him.

The Founding Fathers would be aghast and sickened, could they see how American culture has declined in godliness.

Give me a break.

I disagree that Christianity is required for a concept of rights, or a constitution, government, and ethics based on them. However, I think there is a good case to be made for it helping.

That’s a funny tag line…nothing like a dose of reality, but have no worry, he will “regain” his senses and march on to change the world. The problem is, the world probably won’t be listening anymore.

Yeah probably, and the fact that these people go to journalism school to ‘change the world’.

I have a son who was getting his degree in journalism (your sympathies will be welcome), and he said he couldn’t wait to graduate so that, as a journalist, he could change the world. I told him he needs to look up the definition of “journalist” in the dictionary. He did and it said (paraphrased) “Somone who reports the facts.” He hasn’t been the same since.

I agree 1000% and I’ve said so here scores of times.

The left wants to take God out of everything. They have succeeded in schools, off some buildings, out of ‘approved’ literature, out of locker rooms , the list goes on and on.

Families, schools, businesses, everything would be better off. Why do they think it’s gotten so bad? They took God out of the classrooms. Period.
IMO this is the single greatest threat to Americas future. Yes even over islamic jihad, because with God, true freedom OF religion allowed everywhere, we would defeat evil islam.

political theorizing should go to the masses for free… yeah you pay to see it in person and get the DVD and then the donations… but the message should be free or it’s no message at all… it’s a sales pitch.

Yeah probably, and the fact that these people go to journalism school to ‘change the world’. That and living in NYC can probably do that to ya after a while. What they should do is make use of their local affiliates all across the country to get a better idea of what REAL Americans think. if all you do is talk to other lefty reporters, you end up thinking like them and that everybody thinks like that. “How did Nixon win? I don’t know anybody who voted for him!”

Its Darwinism, more specifically Scientific Naturalism that is the root of the problem.

If the founders held to those beleifs, the Declaration of Indpendence and the Nation as we know it would’ve never have come to be.
