You get about five seconds of their conversation at the very beginning, then agonizing silence. Where’s a shotgun microphone when you need one?
As for Michelle, relax. She was home watching her kids.

Bambi looks like a kid next to Maverick.
ManlyRash on September 11, 2008 at 5:15 PM
I have to say Obama looks good here. Relaxed. (Probably ’cause he knew the Barracuda wouldn’t be there. I kid.)
Good on both of ‘em for doing this.
Well-Armed Lamb on September 11, 2008 at 5:17 PM
I was there this morning. The place was packed. You couldn’t get anywhere near the WTC site.
I took lots of photos. Sadly, it was a troofer jamboree..
Urban Infidel on September 11, 2008 at 5:17 PM
Give Barry glasses and he looks like Raj from “What’s Happening!!” and, to a lesser extent, “What’s Happening Now!!”
Chuck Schick on September 11, 2008 at 5:18 PM
I wish John McCain would not have agreed to this. Obama is using him to portray himself on the same level as McCain when it comes to security.
Obama is shoplifting McCain’s gravitas.
Elizabetty on September 11, 2008 at 5:18 PM
All I heard from Bambi was “Well, you know, the uhhhhhhhh…”
The narrator is a stupid tool.
ManlyRash on September 11, 2008 at 5:19 PM
Why is Shuster going on about them being uncomfortable? It’s not like Olby was there biting at McCain’s ankles and stroking Obama’s um, ego. Looked natural to me. And nice to see Cindy there.
Spirit of 1776 on September 11, 2008 at 5:19 PM
In the first few seconds, I heard BO say three words, one of which, of course, was “Uh”.
jgapinoy on September 11, 2008 at 5:22 PM
Obama: yeah except I’ll meet with a former President and get some good pictures and a nice sound bite…but besides that no politics…promise
Is anyone going to mention that???
elraphbo on September 11, 2008 at 5:22 PM

“The Illinois senator added: “Let us remember that the terrorists responsible for 9/11 are still at large, and must be brought to justice.”"
Right, just as long as we read them their rights. Moron.
AubieJon on September 11, 2008 at 5:23 PM
Erkel and Boss Hoss, approach the scene!
TheHat on September 11, 2008 at 5:24 PM
To be used by MSM as ammo against Sarah.
“See? A mother should be home with her kids!”
Brat on September 11, 2008 at 5:26 PM
What? she found her way from under the bus?
grapeknutz on September 11, 2008 at 5:29 PM
How in the world would that have worked?
Jim Treacher on September 11, 2008 at 5:29 PM
Terrorists are not allowed at Ground Zero.
Damiano on September 11, 2008 at 5:29 PM
NOW I know who Barack Obama reminds me of. Remember Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids? (used to be on CBS, just before Shazam).
Look at the tall kid in the back.
cannonball on September 11, 2008 at 5:29 PM
Didn’t McCain actually use that (without irony) in a speech he gave?
I mean this eriously.
Tzetzes on September 11, 2008 at 5:30 PM
Separate visits.
In a perfect world, given his comments, Obama would be banned from that site.
Damiano on September 11, 2008 at 5:31 PM
As nice as it was to see the Hero and the Zero together at the WTC for 9/11, I still can’t help but think to myself that one of these two men thinks that we can negotiate with the savages who did this.
Tony737 on September 11, 2008 at 5:33 PM
He would say the word “No” when Obama asked him to do it.
Obama called McCain and requested this photo op.
Elizabetty on September 11, 2008 at 5:37 PM
I perfectly good chance for M0 to show how proud she is of her country.
mad saint jack on September 11, 2008 at 5:37 PM
Having this phoney there deecrates the site. I am disgusted with McCain for agreeing to appear jointly. If it weren’t for Sarah the great….
bill30097 on September 11, 2008 at 5:38 PM
Where’s Jeremiah Wright? I thought he might like to see some roosting chickens.
jaime on September 11, 2008 at 5:38 PM
Urban Infidel on September 11, 2008 at 5:17 PM
Nice camera work, Urban!
Tony737 on September 11, 2008 at 5:38 PM
Of course, in a perfect world, we would ban Ahmadenijad from the site.
In Barry’s world, he’d probably have dinner and a “discussion” about nuclear policy over the charring embers of WTC 1.
amkun on September 11, 2008 at 5:39 PM
Did Baracky ask for a moment of silence to honor the nineteen victims of American imperialism?
Bishop on September 11, 2008 at 5:39 PM
So then Obama shows up alone. He cares and McCain doesn’t. That would have been better.
Jim Treacher on September 11, 2008 at 5:40 PM
Didn’t Baracky say that he would meet with any world leaders, including our enemies, without precondition? What if Ahmadinnerjacket said he wanted to meet on the anniversary of 911?
The emptiest of suits was probably more concerned with getting a photo-op at ground zero than actually paying homage to the victims.
Bishop on September 11, 2008 at 5:41 PM
Indeed.
jgapinoy on September 11, 2008 at 5:43 PM
That’s all nice and cozy and crap but my only real question is where the hell the WTC replacement? It’s been 7 years and the original buildings were designed and built within 5 years. It’s only one building now! Unbelievable.
Egfrow on September 11, 2008 at 5:47 PM
At his Columbia University address tonight, will BO say this again?

jgapinoy on September 11, 2008 at 5:48 PM
Thanks, Tony737!
Much appreciated. Fist bump on your above comment about negotiating..!
Urban Infidel on September 11, 2008 at 5:48 PM
Doesn’t look good.
bnelson44 on September 11, 2008 at 5:57 PM
Shuster is a dipstick. The event today is a somber occasion, and etiquette for decades has discouraged eye contact when conversing during such things. Not sure where that started.
MadisonConservative on September 11, 2008 at 5:59 PM
There. Fixed that for ya’. No need to thank me. Just bein’ neighborly.
CyberCipher on September 11, 2008 at 6:00 PM
If you notice another body language cue…. McCain has taken the lead… walking slightly ahead. godbama actually put his hands behind him as he walked… giving way to McCain.
CynicalOptimist on September 11, 2008 at 6:06 PM
Maybe at Ground Zero, but obviously not at HA.
C’est la vie.
MB4 on September 11, 2008 at 6:15 PM
Obama doesn’t exude any sort of leadership in my gut. Sorry. Actually, not sorry.
SouthernGent on September 11, 2008 at 6:18 PM
Baracky was terrified of doing something wrong, so he let experience walk ahead of him.
Empty suit.
Bishop on September 11, 2008 at 6:20 PM
OT: McCain now the higher price bet to win the election at Intrade, and the Palin-will-be-withdrawn ticket has vanished and been replaced by a Biden one.
Heh. Heh heh.
MadisonConservative on September 11, 2008 at 6:21 PM
I for one would like to thank both senators for doing this.
Very nice.
The Ugly American on September 11, 2008 at 6:24 PM
The guy who wanted to concede Iraq to al Qaeda and Iran does not deserve to share the same stage as those willing to fight for peace.
He is the worst possible president since Carter.
Basilsbest on September 11, 2008 at 6:32 PM
where are the other parties? where’ BoB BaRR… and whoever the hell else they put up?
Kaptain Amerika on September 11, 2008 at 6:59 PM
What was the pin the officer put on McCain’s lapel?
MSNBC didn’t show any such pin being placed on Obama’s lapel.
desertdweller on September 11, 2008 at 7:14 PM
Ya know what McCain is saying to Obamam?
I own your a$$ fool.
LOL
Old Hippie Vet on September 11, 2008 at 7:44 PM
HOLD ON……I got one more……….
SUCKS TO BE YOU DOESN’T IT JR. A girl KICKED your A$$. LOL
Old Hippie Vet on September 11, 2008 at 7:50 PM
McCain doesn’t swing his right arm while he walks.
I think the guy is in more pain than he lets on. Tough as nails.
Count to 10 on September 11, 2008 at 8:30 PM
Barak Obama. Empty suit. Deluded Marxist. Fragile egotist. Liberal fascist. Would-be leader of the world.
Still, I have to feel sorry for the guy. He’s so wrong. Intellectually bankrupt. Morally weak. And administratively uncertain. When in private he stares around his empty room desperately asking himself about the course he has charted for his life, “What happened? How could it all go so wrong so quickly? Why don’t they love me like they know they should?” but never daring to ask himself, “Is it me? Am I the problem?”
But it’s so sad. Look at his hair. His hair has gone so gray in just twenty months of campaigning. (By comparison, it took John McCain five years in a tiger cage to go prematurely gray.) If one or two terms as President makes men go gray and he goes gray just by running for office, what will happen to him when he actually has to serve as President? He will blow a vessel I’m afraid.

Michelle O. was afraid of Cindy.
Entelechy on September 11, 2008 at 9:50 PM
David Shuster is such an idiot. What does he think… that Obama and McCain should have been blabbing and high-five-ing one another??
D2Boston on September 11, 2008 at 9:52 PM
Five bucks says you’re right on the money on that one. I’d even bet that McCain threw in a “I see you barely survived the pitbull”
leetpriest on September 11, 2008 at 11:23 PM
Change you can invest in?
leetpriest on September 11, 2008 at 11:27 PM
They were both there paying their respects to the victims and heroes of that day so my respect to both of them for putting politics aside for that.
I wish everyone would be so gracious…. including the Boss.
Yakko77 on September 12, 2008 at 1:15 AM
I’ve saw some footage where those nutjobs got in a argument with some NYC firefighters, it was two years ago, I think the guy that started the fight was the dude from Loose Change.
Cr4sh Dummy on September 12, 2008 at 5:21 AM
The body language says much. The amount of time McCain spent with each of the first responders (handshakes longer with McCain than with Obama). The longer the more caring and shorter indicates a level of indifference.
The next body language I would be looking for is when each is offered a salute from a military person who actually returns it and the sincerity of it conveyed via the sharpness of the salute.
I am still sickened by the manner in which Obama did not show the appropriate respect at the playing of the national anthem (no placing the hand over the heart as required by law-showing proper respect for the flag).
MSGTAS on September 12, 2008 at 10:18 AM
You need to learn the difference between justice and vengeance. Justice requires that we treat people as human beings with rights, even when they’ve committed a criminal act.
Mark Jaquith on September 12, 2008 at 1:15 PM
McCain waddles. Obama sways his arms and shoulders like a 1920’s cartoon. – haaaa
Drunk Report on September 12, 2008 at 2:09 PM
Anyone notice that Obama is wearing a red tie and McCain is wearing a blue tie? Hmm……both declaring defeat, it seems.
