Video: Not exactly the Algonquin Circle with Al Franken

posted at 8:30 am on September 10, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

The NRSC and Norm Coleman have emphasized Al Franken’s lack of proper decorum in public appearances as an argument against electing him to Coleman’s seat in the Senate. In their latest web video, the NRSC takes a look at one of Franken’s supporters and major donors, who apparently acts as Franken’s muscle at fundraisers. William A. K. Titleman takes his lead from Franken in public relations, as two incidents caught on tape reveal.

Oh, and this is not safe for work viewing … which is the point:

Such hostility! This won’t surprise anyone who saw Franken’s performance at the 2004 Republican convention, when he had to be restrained from assaulting one of Laura Ingraham’s producers, a moment caught on camera by Michael Brodkorb.  Franken must serve as an inspiration to Titleman, in more ways than one.

His career peaked when he starred with that gorilla in “Trading Places”.

Actually it was the autobiographical “Stuart Smally”

That was a window into his soul.

I wish Al would hurry up and lose the election so I can quit reading about him.

Makes you want to come and live in Minnesota, doesn’t it?

Why does my state always try and elect these dimwits?

Bishop on September 10, 2008 at 8:50 AM

Wait, I thought it was McCain who had the uncontrollable temper.

Injured by Al Franken? Call William A. Upyourassbuddy and Partners now! There’s no fee unless they get money for you!

being foulmouthed has its place. On camera is not the place. Not if you want any sympathy.

someone should take full advantage of one of those 10000 lakes and shove him into it.

I always thought that was Jim Belushi?

JamesLee on September 10, 2008 at 9:00 AM

If Minnesotans are dumb enough to elect a knucklehead like that, they deserve all the derision people in Iowa give them. Franken is as funny as a gut full of pinworms and as savory.

cyclown on September 10, 2008 at 9:14 AM

Seems to me Al threw a chair at somebody at CPAC a few years back. He was a guest on G. Gordon Liddy’s show and was upset that there was another guest to counter him and he didn’t like that.

I didn’t see it and I don’t remember the details. Does anybody remember the facts about that? All I know was that he was very angry and abusive, cause gosh darn it, people like him.

pistolero on September 10, 2008 at 9:51 AM

I always thought that was Jim Belushi?

Belushi played a party goer in the train car. Stuart played the dopey skycap (or whatever you call them on trains), who put the villian in with the ape.

Man, that cameraman could have had some fun provoking that lawyer. Probably could have gotten him to take a swing at him..

‘Your name is ‘Up your a**buddy?’ Man, I’d hate to go to jail with a name like that. So, I can say I was asked to leave by a Mr. A**buddy?’ It might have been painful but it would have gotten a sweet set of charges to drop on that lawyer. Plus, he could have hit him with the camera in self defense. Win win.

austinnelly on September 10, 2008 at 10:10 AM

The only way to handle this Titleman is to engage in his tactic, and force him into a confrontation. He thinks he’s bad enough that he can put hands on somebody? I’d consider it assault and lay his ass out.
Being nice to him won’t work. He needs to be confronted and forced to throw the first punch, or shove. Then all bets are off.

The trick is that if you gave him the beating that he so desperately needs, you suffer the pain $.

As a graduate of the Oprah school of amateur psychology, I’d wager that Al has some “personal issues” he needs to work out.

Unfortunately, he seems to have settled on his political ambitions as a “justification” for acting the way he does; like OJ, if he has a problem, it’s that he cares about “the little guy” too much. And “enablers” like Upyourassbuddy, esquire just help him prolong this self-delusion.

Al’s joining Rosie O’Donnell and Al Gore on my “seriously and sincerely, seek counseling” list.

In today’s world, that seems counterintuitive.

samuelrylander on September 10, 2008 at 10:36 AM

He actually kissed the camera! I guess trial lawyers just can’t keep it in their pants when publicity is available. John Edwards, your soulmate is somewhere in the land of 1,000 lakes.

Western_Civ on September 10, 2008 at 10:46 AM

AL FRANKEN, U.S. Senator?

Oh, please, no.

DPierre on September 10, 2008 at 11:00 AM

WOW!

You know, There used to be standards in politics. I guess The liberals pushed that envelope way, way too far.

leetpriest on September 10, 2008 at 11:07 AM

Any chance Jason Mattera could get up there to interview Franken and Titelman? He works well with “special needs” people…

richardj on September 10, 2008 at 11:34 AM

A news article says ” Franken puts ” radio show on “”"HOLD”"” to pursue politics in office”..

RIiight, no see he was goin to get FIRED because his show sucked.

tx2654 on September 10, 2008 at 11:57 AM

I am so happy we won. You can count on the DFL to stay classy!

Laurence on September 10, 2008 at 12:08 PM

Someone could easily get video of Al Franken losing it. He isn’t careful. All you have to do is go to a rally where he is, confront him verbally, and he goes ballistic. He cannot contain himself. The same demeanor sank Mike Hatch’s chances for governer in MN. And it’s not like you couldn’t get close to the guy – NO ONE shows up for his little get-togethers.

foxforce91 on September 10, 2008 at 12:14 PM

Not exactly mensa material.

diogenes on September 10, 2008 at 2:00 PM

Anyone who supports Franken really couldn’t care less. They applaud him for it.

This is the Face of the Enemy, folks: This is what we are up against. Franken and his pathetic, ridiculous bitch-boy gangsta-lawyer are the essense of the modern Democratic Party and many liberal 527 and other groups

This is no joke: this is what they are.

If we don’t defeat them, they will ruin us–by making us more like them. Some of you fence-sitters and picky “McCain’s not conservative enough” people need to wise up, wake up, etc

Janos Hunyadi on September 10, 2008 at 3:04 PM

What are the polls saying- could he actually win?! That would be horrifying-

kareyk on September 10, 2008 at 3:30 PM

What is wrong with the people in Minnesota that something as foul as Franken might win? Good place not to live.
