Scenes from the House floor: Jesus was a community organizer, Pontius Pilate was a governor, says Dem

It’s Steve Cohen, longtime practitionerand victim — of the sort of guileless liberal nuance conservatives have come to know and love. Anyone recognize the pedigree of this bon mot? That’s right, it comes from Kos, who fortuitously plucked it from the obscurity of a teeming inbox and devoted a whole post to it the day after Palin’s speech, with credit to an unnamed reader for the brilliance of his insight. Six days later, after a detour through the Internet (a lefty friend e-mailed yesterday to say her circle of liberal colleagues was quite taken with it), it’s being parroted by Democratic backbenchers for safekeeping in the Congressional Record. Is Cohen just another dKos fanboy like the “journalists” who harvested the Trig smear from the site, do you suppose? Or is this a case of David Axelrod doing what David Axelrod does best?

Ah well. Having Barry O’s surrogates compare red-state America’s new favorite politician to Pontius Pilate is bound to work wonders in winning over those evangelical voters the left now pretend-respects and fake-esteems. Too bad McCain blew all of his outrage money on Lipstickgate. Exit question: In fairness to Kos’s analogy, she has put Obama through a terrible ordeal over the past 10 days, hasn’t she?

Jesus is just alright with me….

DeweyWins on September 10, 2008 at 1:56 PM

Jesus responds: “What? Why are you dragging me into this mess.”

baxtrice on September 10, 2008 at 1:56 PM

This Cohen moron is the same tool who wasn’t allowed to join the Congressional Black Caucus because he wasn’t black, even though he represents a majority black district.

What a moron.

progressoverpeace on September 10, 2008 at 1:56 PM

So, Jesus went around as a community organizer, aka, talking to the Roman Government about the people, while getting PAID to do so?

Hm, the only one I remember talking to the government, and getting paid for it, was Judas…

Romeo13 on September 10, 2008 at 1:44 PM

Good point, I’m sure that’s what Cohen meant to say. After all, Cohen’s a Democrat, you can’t expect him to know the difference between “Judas” and “Jesus.”

She needs to come out and destroy this all in a fell swoop:

“Well I’ve been compared to everything from a pig to pontious pilot. That’s how you can tell they’re nervous…”

Something like that. Or “Jesus is the son of God senator, let’s not get too cocky here..”

Dash on September 10, 2008 at 1:47 PM

I like where you’re going with this…

“Well everyone, As a Governor, I have no problem running against a junior senator, but Rep. Cohen’s savior might be a bit of a stretch. I guess in that case, I’ll have to crucify him.”

Damiano on September 10, 2008 at 1:58 PM

Obama isn’t even Jesus Abreau…….

Techie on September 10, 2008 at 1:58 PM

I’ve heard liberals with the, um, audacity to say that Jesus was a liberal.

jgapinoy on September 10, 2008 at 1:59 PM

The big problem with this is that Jesus was NOT a community organizer – he was a religious leader. ALL of his activities were centered around God and the worship thereof, NOT the community.

PJ Emeritus on September 10, 2008 at 1:59 PM

I Know Jesus, and Barack is NO Jesus.

originalpechanga

…excellent…just excellent….

Jesus was the Word, the incarnation of God on earth, the personification of truth. When Pilate asked “What is truth?” (a very modern quetion), it was literally standing flat-footed in front of him.

…so…just what is the honorable member (2-3-4-rimshot) saying? Jesus=community organizer=Obama? Is Obama, then, second appearance of the Incarnate Word?

…explains the whole messiatic complex….

Puritan1648 on September 10, 2008 at 2:00 PM

There are 50 Governors in this country (or 57 for the Community-Organizer-in-Chief), most of whom are Democrats right now. Are they all like Pontius Pilate?

Steve Z on September 10, 2008 at 2:00 PM

Hey Dims,

Keep it up. It will make our victory that much more savory, and the case of beer I bet more tasty.

Senators were Community Organizers, but Presidents mostly come from Governors.

Obama should be crucified for that one.

The “community organizers” were the Pharisees – you know, the ones who backed Pilate into the corner in the first place?

PJ Emeritus on September 10, 2008 at 2:01 PM

Che Guevara was a community organizer. Ronald Reagan was a governor.

Instead of “Change We Can Believe In”,

The Messiah should change his slogan to “Evolution”. It would win over the atheists.

What is the definition of Evolution? Change over time.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on September 10, 2008 at 2:01 PM

I liked the left’s old “community organizer” argument – that the Republicans risked creating a “community organizer” backlash. Now, that was funny stuff.

Oh, by the way, most of Jesus’ Apostles were fishermen. Like Sarah Palin’s husband.

Jesus chased the corrupt money changers from the Temple and ended his ministry by attacking the same as thieves.

But the power of the One was so complete, that whenever the One was in the building, sanity returned to Rev. Wright and he only said good and joyfull things.

The hatefilled things said by the good Reverend only occurred when the One was not close enough to heal the Reverends pain.

MarkTheGreat on September 10, 2008 at 2:06 PM

The libs like to tear down the Son of God until He is simply a person JUST LIKE THEM.

Hence the popular “Jesus was a liberal” meme (Really? He was against same-sex marriage, appealed for people to help each other instead of depending upon the government, had no problem working with people of ‘lesser stature’ than He, and that people are to be held accountable for their actions)

And now we have “Jesus was a community organizer.”

-sigh-

He was SUCH a good ‘community organizer’ that after His death His ‘community’ ran and hid in a room!

Did you see him with O’Reilly last night? Bill totally had him when Barack claimed to have NEVER heard of read a hateful statement from Wright over a period of 20 years. O’Reilly scoffed and told him that he was selling his sermons in the lobby, and Barack kind of smiled and said something smarmy claiming he must have missed it all those years. Anyone who believes Obama didn’t know the core of Wright’s consistent message is either dishonest to the extreme or dillusional. Fact is- Obama just never had a problem with racism and anti-Americanism until the national media found out about it.

Democrats’ 2008 Campaign: McSame! Jesus was a Community Organizer!

Joseph Goebbels (1897-1945): If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.

Vladimir Lenin (1870-1924): A lie told often enough becomes truth.

American voters, November 4, 2008: Prove once again that Goebbels and Lenin and Democrats were wrong.

Loxodonta on September 10, 2008 at 2:12 PM

Obama, the ‘community organizer’, is an Alinsky acolyte.

Alinsky was a radical straight out of the Gramsci playbook.

In both America and Britain, Gramsci’s acolytes have been conducting a decades-long march through the institutions. In Britain, they have substantially achieved their aim of subverting western morality and changing the face of British society. No political party stands against this. In the US, they have made huge inroads but haven’t yet won. With Palin on one side and Obama on the other, it is now clear that this US presidential election has taken the culture war to the gates of the White House itself.

Revolution you can believe in, The Spectator.co.uk

I urge anyone unfamiliar with Alinsky and ‘community organizers’ to read the article.

PJ Emeritus on September 10, 2008 at 1:59 PM

That bothers me too. They’ve got Jesus all wrong. Jesus was a revolutionary who scared the government of his time so much due to the message he preached, that they not only killed him but also every one of his followers.

Community organizers generally HELP the government. They’re not general considered outlaws.

Jesus didn’t do anything to help the government.

Esthier on September 10, 2008 at 2:15 PM

That guy, Cohen, obviously doesn’t know the Scriptures.

Jesus was NOT a local activist for Communism – exactly what the term “community organizer” actually masks. He was an itinerant preacher with twelve close apprentices and many others who believed what He preached.

And unlike certain “community organizer” we all know, He never wanted worldly power, nor did He seek it. Remember that the Devil himself offered Him “all the kingdoms of the world” in exchange for allegiance to the Evil One – an offer which He flat-out refused.

Of course, Obama wants that power…

Well let’s let God decide Obama’s claim to deity.

But in the strickly worldly power sense. The story didn’t end well for the “community organizer” now did it? Hmmm

If I didn’t find the whole idea blasphemous and horribly irreverent and vain…. I mean if the story was a Greek hero story or something I’d say Palin’s chances are pretty good.

I don’t remember Jesus associating with rabbis that cheated on their wives with Romans.

Star20 on September 10, 2008 at 2:23 PM

Jesus’ brand of community organizing

Matthew 10:34-38

Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

When was the last time you saw a “community organizer” walk into a church and turn a few tables upside down.
But the big difference, Jesus never took Government money, that is why he could not be a community organizer.

Jesus as community organizer? Did he file form 990s? I don’t recall seeing grant proposals in the Gospels. How much money did KIng Herod Antipas contribute to Jesus’ community organizing?(or Pontius Pilate, they were after all the government, and the government feeds all those community organizer people).

eaglewingz08 on September 10, 2008 at 3:14 PM

Christ didn’t organize any community, unless you count a band of 12 disciples and various other attendants. Jesus trained his disciples to the ways of The Word and Truth. They are the ones who went out and “organized the community” into the Christian church.

Forgive me the following comparison: if you follow the libtards metaphor, Saul Alinsky was the Jesus as Hillary, Barry, and other libs were to the 12 disciples.

The libtards would come up with better religious metaphors if they actually understood religion and Christianity before talking about it.
