Quote of the day

“Palin is a shallow, chirpy person with those vaguely alarming eyeglasses. Now her fans all want a pair. Remember back when women wore glasses that departed their ears in plastic swoops and swirls? My theory is, anyone who wears glasses that look weird is telling me something I don’t want to know.
I trust the American people will see through Palin’s facade, and save the Republic in November. The most damning indictment against her is that she considered herself a good choice to be a heartbeat away. That shows bad judgment.”

I don’t know but I can’t wait for tomorrow! What pearls of wisdom await us and from whose mouth will they spill? I’m giddy just thinking about it.

I guess he’s now got two thumbs up… his ass.

The “heartbeat away” argument is so silly.
I’ll take a “heartbeat away” over “the heartbeat” any day when it boils down to the experience line.

I used to like Ebert’s reviews. He had a good eye and appreciation for horror movies that most of his comrades lacked.
That said, somewhere in the last 8 – 10 years he’s become increasingly unable to separate his political issues from his movie reviews.
I would like to think that a younger Ebert would be greatly embarrassed and distressed on how he has turned out.
I mean, the guy really thinks how someone wears glasses gives him some magical insight into their soul!
Religious_Zealot on September 10, 2008 at 11:14 PM
Here’s what’s driving the Dems insane:
” One good indication of the enthusiasm were the number of creative signs and campaign paraphenalia by those present. I saw two high-school girls together — one had a custom T-Shirt that said “The Future Mrs. Track Palin,” and her friend’s shirt said “Piper Can Do My Hair” (my memory may not be exact). There were also lots of special needs children and mothers present. One mother had a rather lovely and affecting sign with a picture of her son with Down syndrome that read “47 Chromosomes from Heaven.” Geraghty and I saw another woman with a sign that said “McCain Hero with a Heart and a Veep Just Like Me.” Just like me? Women really seem to identify with Palin.
Far from being outshone, McCain is really, really enjoying the energy Palin has brought in. When he mentioned her in his remarks and the crowd just started chanting “Sarah! Sarah!” he just began beeming and he began waving his arms like he was conducting to the crowd. Last time I saw McCain this close and personal was in January when I was on the Straight Talk Express just before the Michigan primary (which he lost). He was still feisty then, but also obviously weary. Today he looked born anew.”
Mark Hemingway’s notes from the McCain/Palin rally today.

So… Biden is a good choice???
The Dhimmicrats have it backwards. Put experience at the TOP of the ticket and the young Padawan on the bottom of the ticket.
BHO is starting to give off that Dukakis vibe. Does anybody else notice it? Remember the great SLN “debate” where he says “I can’t believe I’m losing to this guy”? That’s how it feels right now.

Sarah is unqualified in this moron’s view on account of her eyeglasses!
Once again from the left, irrational subjective emotional criteria carry the day. Her glasses spook him. We need to “save the Republic”, so’s he can cuddle up with Teddy and sleep peacefully at night.
The Democratic Party…increasingly a misnomer. The Deranged Party, maybe.

It really is amusing to hear them … THEM talk about the republicans as the ‘american idol’ with Palin, when it so clearly Obama. As Hitchens’ asked – if you liked Obama’s speech so much, quote me a line from it.
And of course they cant. As well as the ‘omfg, Palin is inexperienced’ …. the governor of Alaska is not experienced enough to be VP, and Obama was only in his first term as US senator for how many days … before he decided to run for office? Again, unreal.
And there’s the interview when Palin said ‘what does a VP do’ and that she didnt want to be VP ……. and they think that this is such a gotcha! for them …. and there’s also a video of Obama claiming that he needs to be in office for a time before he should run for president.
Again, the left are so absolutely clueless and hypocritical. … amazing.

Actually, this isn’t new for Ebert. He’s done many political columns since, at least, Bush became president, with nothing to recommend or distinguish any of them from, say, Maureen Dowd. His insights are shallow, and his politics are boilerplate leftist.
It’s sad, really, and always kind of embarrassing that someone gets as old as he is without ever really maturing beyond that nonsense.
Kensington on September 10, 2008 at 11:21 PM
“…shallow, chirpy person…..”
Katie Couric?

Anyone here a state governor? Anyone here ever been a mayor? Anyone here even been on a PTA board?
She has me beat.
Anyone here ever self a corporate jet? Anyone here ever have domestic staff, let alone dismiss any of ‘em? Anyone here ever vetoed anything?
Again, has me beat. For that matter, he has both Obama and Biden beat, as well.
Oh! You want an insider. I see. You see, the only way you can get the sort of federal legislative or executive, diplomatic or economic experience you seem to crave in a Republic candidate is to have been inside the beltway for a generation or so…as with the Democrats choice of for the number two slot.
So common citizens aren’t good enough. Folks out in flyover country can just forget it. We ought to just shut up and let our “betters” run things, is that it?
If Barak Obama has a resume sufficient to be the Chief Executive, then Sarah’s got at least as good a resume qualifying her to be the President of the Senate.
…oh…and as to the nattering about her never having been overseas…find a map…Alaska is overseas, Bubba…can’t blame her for not getting ’round to going to Europe…been there over a dozen times…uptight sort of place. Beer’s good, have to say.
So, shuck off the Lefty mantle long enought to bitch us all out on the issues, not angstoms-thin issues like her appearance or boilerplate kvetches about her supposed lack of experience.
For my part, I’m sick of the juvenile attacks about her style…which are understandable, I guess, coming from people for whom style is substance….
