Palin: Senatorial privilege vs Executive responsibility

Democrats have reacted with fear and panic to the selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate, and given her performance today in Fairfax, Virginia, it’s easy to see why. Brian Faughnan caught this riposte from Palin on Barack Obama’s weird attack on her opposition to the Bridge to Nowhere — which he supported. She skewers him as a poseur on reform and underscores his lack of experience for the job he seeks:
Just the other day, our opponent brought up earmarks, and frankly I was surprised that he did, considering his record on earmarks. I didn’t think he’d want to go there. In just three years, our opponent has requested nearly a billion dollars in earmarks, and that’s about a million dollars every working day.
We reformed the abuses of earmarks in our state, and it was while our opponent was requesting a billion dollars in earmarks as a Senatorial privilege. What I was doing was vetoing half a billion dollars as an executive responsibility.
That will leave a big mark. Obama walked into this trap all on his own, and Palin merely pulled the lever.

Man she is vicious when she goes for the groin shot….
Sarah is drawing ‘em in.
The difference between the two camps is Hope’n'Dope plays santa clause with our money…Sarah wants wealth generation so everyone gets money.
sven10077 on September 10, 2008 at 4:28 PM
Bravo! If I say that Barack’s comments were like “the pot calling the kettle black”, will that generate 4 days worth of outrage on the lefty websites?

Obama is quickly becoming small game for Palin. I just wish McCain would back away. It looks like he’s looking for something to do.

Go Sarah! That was a great comeback. Obama has the audacity to bring up earmarks. Of all people.
jencab on September 10, 2008 at 4:33 PM
She really needs to mention that $1 million of her opponent’s earmarks went to the hospital where his wife works, and where she had gotten a big raise.

Obama is going to need to send out for more ice.

So much to the “sticking to the written s[peech meme. anyone else seen this coming. the Left’s inability to treat their opponents as equals always sets them up for the right to do better than expected.
Gov. Palin is an accomplished leader and a politician. she has ran 3 statewide campiagns has an underdog. She won 2 out of three. she has been in 25-30 debates during these campaigns. how many has Joe Biden been in? Anyone that can read a newspaper or search the internet can gain forgiegn policy experience. Diplomacy is different and needs to be learned on the job. But ANYONE can learn the capital of Gerogia or where is Nigeria and what is their oil output from the news and internet.
Yet the Left refuses to give their opponent the respect of equal knowledge and constantly sets themselves up for loss . Now which side is stupid again?

Sarah sure knows how to throw an uppercut!!!!!! She has got me more excited to vote than I ever thought I would be this election.

As I watch her I recall a conversation I had with a friend a few years ago after Tiger Woods won his first Masters. “Tiger’s pretty good, ” I said, “but wait until he learns how to play this game.”
Well, Palin’s pretty good right now; but just wait until she learns how to play this game.

Hate to come over all pessimistic and worried but there is a real problem with these speeches just repeating the same thing over and over. There can’t be anyone who hasn’t heard about the jet on eBay or the Bridge to Nowhere. Maybe all politicians repeat the same speeches over and over but the media sure as hell are going to have a go at her for it. The Republicans really need to keep her sounding fresh. It is going to become a problem. And she is going to have to start doing interviews at some point.
She was looking particularly hot, though…

That’s a good shot right on Obama’s jaw. He’s never done squat to limit earmarks.
To some degree that’s true, but I’m noticing that they are starting to integrate new stuff into their stump speech – the topic of this post being Exhibit A.

bbz123 on September 10, 2008 at 4:48 PM
Correct me if I am wrong, but much of that speech was new, wasn’t it? Many people are just hearing her for the first time and much of what she has said needs repeating. And anyway, as she said, she is not here for the MSM, she is here to serve the people of the USA.

Palin is looking like the new CEO of an ailing company, trying to lead it back to prosperity… while Obama is looking like part of those pathetic, paid-for protesting groups standing outside in the rain, holding a “Shame On _____” banner.

After 8 years of go along to get along, not picking fights with the dems and letting them walk all over us. Being a uniter not a divder it is a breath of fresh air to hear republicians standing up for their beliefs. Screw this crap that AMerica has tilted towards the left we have not. We have been ashamed at the shoddy “performance of Bush in his second term” Not of his policies. It was always a performance issue not his core beliefs.

Good you’re catching on. So did Palin. Then she withdrew her support only when it became a national embarrassment. Then she kept the money allocated for the bridge anyway. Yet she uses it as an applause line.

That’s subliminal racism; when you say it out loud, it sounds like the (white) “girl with the black guy”, which plays on fears of black male sexuality just like talking about Britney and Paris while showing phallic symbols like the Tower of Pisa….
