Video: Modern-day Murrow plays pattycake with Obama
posted at 6:30 pm on September 9, 2008 by Allahpundit
Think about this: During the very hour this was airing, his nemesis across the dial was grilling Obama about economic policy. Olby knew that and thus had every incentive to rouse himself and ask a few perfunctory tough questions, if only to minimize the embarrassment he’d suffer from the inevitable compare-and-contrast critiques. And yet. Among the marshmallows tossed at The One: “Why do people hesitate to use the word ‘lie’ about these things?” “Have the Republicans succeeded in muddying up this election?” And my favorite, “Have you thought of getting angrier?” There’s one straight-up question, on the Fannie/Freddie bailout, about eight minutes into the second clip. I know you dislike him, but do you at least appreciate him for what he’s done to damage lefty media’s credibility? Give the man his due.
The highlight comes at 2:50 of the first clip, when Kayo and Obama share a laugh at the thought of Sarah Palin appearing on “Countdown.” Which is laughable, to be sure, but not for the reason this tool would have you believe. Exit question: Where does this rank on his list of most humiliating, credibility-destroying interviews? We know it’s not number one.

I think he’s great. I wish he would have chaired the RNC.
I like to say that the surest sign in life that you have the losing argument is your unwillingness to put it to the test against those who have a differing viewpoint. KO is the world’s greatest example of a losing argument.

How can these people hate America so much when even lowlife losers like themselves get rich and powerful. Dirtbags.

He has done a great job in helping to promote the existence of the liberal media by being so over-the-head obvious. And by proving its existence, he must also be helping to destroy it. Maybe he’s a quadruple-secret GOP mole? Nah, we’re probably not that clever. Lookup useful idiot and he’s the picture.

The best thing that ever happened was when he called Greg Gutfeld one of the worsest(?) persons in the world. And was summarily mocked by Gutfeld, Levy, and Gutfeld’s Mom. Shut up him, that’s for shore.

Loxodonta on September 9, 2008 at 6:52 PM
Olberman is a complete journalistic idiot. He has ZERO crediblity and received a demotion in terms of his own network not having the confidence in him to let him anchor the presidential debates or election. He is a vile, bitter old man who can’t even get his facts straight.
He said in the first video a few seconds into it that McCain said Obama didn’t look like the other presidents on the dollar bill. Hello, that’s what OBAMA says about himself. OBAMA says, “because I don’t fit the bill, and I don’t look like the other presidents on the dollar bill.” If anyone is racist, it would be him.
I also heard Olberman, who I never watch but stumbled upon accidentally yesterday, say that Palin lied about selling the governor’s plane on e-bay. First, Palin never said she sold it ebay, she said “I put it on ebay”. It sold because of the attention it received from being on ebay. A buyer ended up buying another plane because the alaskan government was caught up in red tape and took too long to sell it, but that just shows there was a buyer and it did sell, if not through ebay.
Olberman is a creepy person. What a negative man. If I were a hippie I’d say his aura is dark and the black clowd around him brings me down. His karma is negative.
He will be fired one day soon and picked up by some little listened to radio program that airs at 6 am. He and Matthews have drug MSNBC’s ratings through the floor and that pathetic network cannot sustain itself much longer.
Amy Proctor on September 9, 2008 at 6:55 PM
I wish, but given NBC, he’ll probably replace brian williams as their main anchor. NBC is totally in the tank for obama an the DNC…they are DNC-TV.

rplat on September 9, 2008 at 6:59 PM
I watched the first clip so a lot of you don’t have to. Among the highlights…bathtub boy says that Republican Congressman Lynn Westmoreland of GA injected race into the campaign by calling Barack and Michelle “uppity”. He then asks Zeus to respond. The Almighty recognizes the cognitive dissonance, and runs the ball another direction. The left is hanging on every word to try and play the race card. McCain had better not talk about the black hole that may destroy us tomorrow or it’s go time. Then again, we may all be dead so it won’t matter.

Olbermann is impossible to humiliate. The man’s ego is so huge and his arrogance so encompassing that there is no tenet of journalism he won’t violate to promote his view of the “truth”. Because the principles of journalism – fairness, accuracy, objectivity – don’t apply when you’re saving the Republic. Which is what he literally thinks he is doing. Yes, he does.
As he once said when he was accused of being a liberal, “I’m not a liberal, I’m just right.”
What is perhaps more shocking has been the fulsome swooning and praise he’s received over the past three years from most of the media critics. The very same observers who are shocked, yes shocked, over Fox News.
But he does get ratings (let’s face it, MSNBC was dead until he returned) and as long as he does, he’ll have a job.

Hummer53 on September 9, 2008 at 7:46 PM
Olbermann is Goebbels and he doesn’t even know it. He is a pure propagandist, unknowingly. It’d be hard to watch if it weren’t so instructive about the face of fascism and delusion.
He makes O’Reilly look good from a journalistic standpoint, and that is quite an insult.
Dr. Manhattan on September 9, 2008 at 7:48 PM
It’s just a matter of time folks, and MSNBC will realize they a have a genuine dumbo/loser in Keith Olbermann. And for the sake of investors, and ratings, they’ll finally give this duffus a long overdue pink slip.
byteshredder on September 9, 2008 at 7:52 PM
Since when did “uppity” become racial? I consider John & Teresa Heinz Kerry uppity. I consider John Edwards uppity. I consider Charles Schumer uppity. I consider David Shuster uppity. I consider Chrissy Matthews uppity. And what? None of these folks are black. WTF is his problem?
Oh, and about the “right” to run 9/11 video? It’s a free country, Bathtub Boy… anybody can run that video and SHOULD run that video to remind everyone who our enemy is.

I just wonder how they tried to soothe him after they took him off the Republican Convention and then dumpstered him clear out of covering the campaign.

I’m not a big bourbon/whiskey drinker, but I bought a bottle of Gentleman Jack for a party last weekend, and it’s damn smooth. Generally, if I pick that kind of spirit it’s Maker’s Mark, but I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was.
Asher on September 9, 2008 at 8:59 PM
Well, here’s an arcane and deep argument: you know, Rush Limbaugh gets the most resonance and maximizes his audience when the Republican base is stirred up and angry. He had his best days during the Clinton Admin. Now if Obama wins, and the Dems increase their lead in the Senate and Congress, Olberman will be reduced to attacking Democrats. However, if MCCAIN wins, Olberman will have at least 4 years of deranged lefties foaming at the mouth against McCain and Palin. 4 years of “Worst Persons” and “Special Comments” directed at the hated Republicans, that is, after months of shows dedicated to examining how the GOP stole the election.
Is it just barely possible that bathtub boy is very very subtly sabotaging Obama with his bullshit? Maybe even subconsciously?
It just seems too over-the-top to be real. Hard to believe Olbermann is so clueless he wouldn’t realize such a transparent interview doesn’t help Obama.
It’s a theory.
docweasel on September 9, 2008 at 9:11 PM
I know someone that would watch that interview and still say Olby is not biased.

A couple of questions off topic:
Is that a hair piece on Keith Overrated? It seems to move in a different direction then his head. Does MSNBC use a filter on their camera lens. It seems to me the BO’s skin tone always appears darker on this network.
Just asking…
