Video: “I Am Sarah Palin”

Courtesy of John Hawkins, a little moral support for our heroine from the boss and others as the smears pile up faster than FactCheck can debunk them. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so behold: Team McCain’s got a brand new Palin Truth Squad.
I have a hunch she’s bearing up okay under the circumstances. Below the clip, a quickie vid of Meghan McCain showing some support of her own for another of the Palin women.

I like the idea. The other “I am” video has more power, but this is a nice idea.

I AM. THE DUDE.
thedudesblog on September 9, 2008 at 4:03 PM
And McCain’s daughter is terrific. What an asset, not only with her blog outreach, but does great in media. Hats off.
Spirit of 1776 on September 9, 2008 at 4:04 PM
Dad McCain said “It’s your choice to have an abortion”???
Olbermann will be playin that tonight.
marklmail on September 9, 2008 at 4:04 PM
Oy… no offense to anyone who worked hard on this, but this awkward, forced sentimentalism comes across as incredibly cheesy.
DaveS on September 9, 2008 at 4:06 PM
I AM SARAH PALIN.
Had to say for Palin representing us conservative women.

That was great until Pam Gellar showed up. Ew.

Olberman would be a fool to play that up.

I can understand why McCain left the choice to her. He wanted her to think about it, make her choice and internalize it . . . and she did.

All right, Pamela Geller! Whoo!

I am tired of this election
I am wishing we could get on with it already.

I think the idea is that the left needs to recognize that women arent only liberals. That there is a strong group of conservative women out there that do vote and have a role to play in American politics.
Dont dismiss them MSM

First lady to appear in video: Michelle Malkin
Next, Freeman Hunt
Next, Skye
Next, Wendy Sullivan
And then later, Pamela from Atlas Shrugs.
Their websites are listed at the end of the video.
I thought the video was great! It’s not technically slick, of course, but the script is fine and the performance of the ladies is good. If this were shot and edited with a bit more technical savvy it would be a very good video.
daviddunn on September 9, 2008 at 4:25 PM
I AM in love with SARAH PALIN!
Star20 on September 9, 2008 at 4:26 PM
Only problem with this video is the ending, where they each say “And I’m a Conservative.” Pam Geller is actually an Ayn Rand Objectivist and much more libertarian, definitely not a Conservative.

And that we’re not all the same, and that we don’t all look like we’re extras who just walked off the Juniper Creek compound set of “Big Love”.

Its cute, but what I would like to see is something more long term. Tee shirts that say ‘I AM SARAH PALIN’ can only express solidarity with her. A tee shirt with her picture and a caption of ‘Sell the Jet – Fire the Chef, or ‘Our Constitutes Deserve Our Best’, or simply ‘How Would Sarah Vote’, worn to a city council meeting might do some lasting good.
meci on September 9, 2008 at 4:32 PM
We know you are, but this is not about you.
capitalist piglet on September 9, 2008 at 4:33 PM
That is precisely why the whole leftern seaboard is so freaked out right now. “A strong woman with brains is also a mom, and not for ‘reproductive rights’, and gawwwwwd, a conservative? That does not compute, that does not compute, that does not compute.”
On the flip side, suddenly real women who don’t feel pwned by wearing skirts are shouting with joy – “We are people too!”

kiltedscotsman5 on September 9, 2008 at 4:39 PM
The idea is fine, the execution needs some help for a 2.0 version.

First time I’ve ever agreed with you.
bridgetown on September 9, 2008 at 4:41 PM
I read through John Hawkins’ thread to see how he stitched submitted videos together, which I guess works ok. However, I am totally turned off by anyone who says “Hello!”. It is very condescending.
Meghan McCain was good. I keep forgetting to visit her site.

Shrillary Clinton’s reaction to hearing the news of Palin’s nomination…

mehhh…I’m not so sure about either. It makes me squirm a little; you’ve gotta be able to carry it off with real conviction so that you don’t look naff. Ironically, paid actors might be able to do better…but would just torpedo the whole authencity thing.
Fortunata on September 9, 2008 at 4:46 PM
max1 on September 9, 2008 at 4:42 PM
good one!
bridgetown on September 9, 2008 at 4:49 PM
I really like Meghan, nice vibe to that interview in that she’s obviously “prepared” but genuine.
Fortunata on September 9, 2008 at 4:50 PM
I don’t like the I am Sarah Palin part. I think it would have been better if they just asserted I am a woman, a conservative woman, and I will not have my beliefs belittled, judged, or criticed by liberals who think they have a monopoly on what a true woman should be. I am a mother, a daughter, a wife. I am strong and I will fight for what I believe in.
church on September 9, 2008 at 4:54 PM
Beats me, I really like her. I’m a libertarian myself, but I still consider myself a conservative, just more conservative than the mainstream.
fossten on September 9, 2008 at 4:54 PM
I think the whole idea behind “I am Sarah Palin” is like the Europeans saying “We are all Americans” after 9/11, or us saying “We are all Brits” after 7/7. Sarah Palin has really been through the wringer this past week and I don’t mind showing a little solidarity with her. The fact that I really like her makes it easier.
Redhead Infidel on September 9, 2008 at 4:55 PM
What’s with the “weak” type responses? It’s not a political video. It’s people who care enough about the way Palin has been denigrated by the Media that they believe, rightly so, that they too, are being attacked in turn. Why knock that as some lame attempt? Why knock their concern and honesty just because it isn’t clever or witty. Stop being so superficial.
Weebork on September 9, 2008 at 4:56 PM
Let’s get a bunch of people to record themselves saying this. Then we start with Michelle, split the screen into quarters of the other four in this vid, then go to 9 (Brady Bunch style) with Michelle in the middle, the others in the corners, and 4 more filling in the sides. Then 16, 25, 36, 49, 64… all at the same time saying the same thing. By the end, there would be 1024 women in unison.
That would kick butt.
The Monster on September 9, 2008 at 4:57 PM
Love is being able to say “That sucked.”
The Race Card on September 9, 2008 at 4:59 PM
I think it’s a good first attempt. However, a few criticisms:
The order of the shots needs to be re-done. A couple of times you went from serious statements and expressions to the woman who was laughing, which broke the rythm for me. Also, don’t start off with the “I am Sarah Palin” line; save it for the end.
Here’s how I envisioned it:
(and in a perfect world, I would end it with a shot of the ‘Cuda herself saying, “I am Sarah Palin.” But that’s in a perfect world.)
Just my $.02
Jezla on September 9, 2008 at 4:59 PM
I agree, that would be awesome.
Jezla on September 9, 2008 at 5:01 PM
I am Spartac–I mean, Sarah Palin.
Can I get a do-over?
Honestly, though, great clip, and Meg McCain is proving a class act. Good for her.
Spc Steve on September 9, 2008 at 5:01 PM
Excellent.
It’s DaveS. He’s a douche.
fossten on September 9, 2008 at 5:02 PM
Whom is the focus? Palin or Malkin? If the point is to highlight how much like many American women Governor Palin is, why focus the center square on yours and my favorite celebrity blogger?
The Race Card on September 9, 2008 at 5:02 PM
Church, Redhead Infidel:
I hear you, but it’s the kind of thing that angry liberal “victims” do. No doubt that our girl has been through the wringer, but she’s tough and smart. Having Levi join Bristol at the convention and stand there holding hands was incredibly classy and shamed the frothing libs more than any air-punching exhortations could have done.
Fortunata on September 9, 2008 at 5:03 PM
good point
The Race Card on September 9, 2008 at 5:05 PM
I don’t know, something about the top vid makes my hackles stand up. Its too angry and not much like the happy warrior style of Sarah Palin herself. In fact, it seems to make these women victims of slights and smears by extension. If these were just regular people putting videos on You Tube without the script it might go over well but this way seems awfully contrived and reeks of false outrage.
Mind you, Michelle Malkin is absolutely one of my favorite media personalities but this doesn’t seem like her usual scrappy self, more the victim.
JonPrichard on September 9, 2008 at 5:06 PM
Jezla on September 9, 2008 at 4:59 PM

I’m so sorry to dissappoint you.
bridgetown on September 9, 2008 at 5:09 PM

Yep. Comes off as angry women using Palin for their troubles. Reminds of a few Hillary supporters that I know.
I don’t have a problem with people standing behind Palin, but this video stinks.
bridgetown on September 9, 2008 at 5:11 PM
Fortunata on September 9, 2008 at 5:03 PM
You are right about the victim thing. I believe the victim vibe that comes out of the Democrats was the first thing that turned me off to them as far back as junior high. But you have to admit they have never really seen one of us, a conservative woman, in this kind of position. They have no idea who we are besides the stereotypes they have imposed on us. I hope Sarah continues to represent us with the dignity and class she has shown so far. I think it won’t be long that the liberals and their media supporters are going to wake up and realize that condescending to us is something they do at their peril because women like me conservative, working mothers and wives are seeing this and we are not liking it. Seems like democrats love middle America and are going to fight for us until they are actually comfronted with one of us.

Absolutely. Happily, I’ve seen lots of articles this week that identify the vicious media response as the the death cry of the dinosaur (elitist liberal Marxist) feminists. The real interests of women and fairness will be advanced from the right.

The thing I think the liberals and media elite don’t get is women like me, and most women I believe, don’t want to be men. I don’t think I have to give up my femininty to be a success in my career. I don’t have to marry a man to attain success, such as Hillary, and I don’t have to hate men to prove I’m a real woman and independent. It continually amazes me that Hillary is so worshipped by the femi-nazis. I mean this is a woman who would be toiling away in some small time law firm if she hadn’t married Bill Clinton. Yet they champion her. Sarah works her way up by her drive and determination and she is called a man by NOW. Bizarre

I am also seriously disturbed by Bill’s crimes, not just the Lewinsky thing, but the whole pattern of predatory behaviour when he was governor, up to and including an alleged (but very plausible) rape. How do they just overlook this??? Hill should at least have had the guts to divorce him.

YES, sexism is alive and thriving in the democrat party, liberal MSM, and feminist organizations. I know that last one seems like an oxymoron but empirical evidence shows it to be true.

It’s like I said… I understand the sentiment. The problem is the affected intensity… it just has very contrived feel to it that leaves it looking cheesy to me.
Like I said, no offense. It’s just my take on it. Wasn’t there another one of these that Michelle put together for something else a few months back? I recall feeling the same back then as well.

Good video…a bit raw…not really meant to be broadcast…but it’s rawness does break the prime directive of our modern political age…it isn’t slick…it isn’t cool…good idea, though….
