Where’s the moral outrage that Obama usually shows in these situations? Were it a bunch of Republicans combing South Chicago to find dirt on Obama’s “community organizing,” racist pastor, corrupt friends, etc. Obama would be out there claiming that this was the GOP trying to deny a multi-racial candidate his rightful place as leader of the nation.

Well then, can we assume that Democrats are up in Alaska because they don’t want a woman as VP?

Open Secrets is one of the few, but cannot be used in isolation as it is not as comprehensive nor as well indexed as other sites. The Newsmeat site has the most extensive background of donations, often going into the early 1990's and even into the 1980's. Remember to examine where individuals have lived beyond just name, as you will often find donations that are truncated in other services popping up by geography. One of the others is Campaign Finance which is limited by campaign dates (only to the 2000 campaign) but often will turn up donations not covered elsewhere. Beyond OpenSecrets for lobbyists there is also the CPI LobbyWatch which does a good job on amounts flowing through individual firms and groups, and LobbyingInfo.org that does a decent job. Also many States and even municipalities now have similar records systems, usually through the State Elections Board... some are harder to find than others. These are essential tools to trace funds as they go through individuals and organizations and into political campaigns and parties. They helped a lot tracing out a lot of my work, and you always get some surprising things turning up.

Am I correct in understanding that she fired “her” commissioner (i.e. an appointee)?

If that’s the case, what difference does it make why she fired him? Why would there even be an investigation? If it really is “her” commissioner, it seems like she could replace it with another one at her pleasure.
