New McCain ad: Obama wants to teach kindergarteners “comprehensive sex education”

The only thing I dislike more than defending The One is defending him over and over again on the same charge. This is a perennial accusation against him, dating first from his Senate race with Alan Keyes, then recycled last year by Romney, and now coopted by Maverick for a little culture-war magic. David Brody at CBN wrote a useful post the last time it came up: Essentially, “comprehensive” sex education for young kids would go no further than teaching them what constitutes inappropriate touching by adults. To watch this, you’d think Barry wants to give them coloring books titled, “Why Does It Burn When I Pee?”
The obligatory Obama camp outrage, via HuffPo: “It is shameful and downright perverse for the McCain campaign to use a bill that was written to protect young children from sexual predators as a recycled and discredited political attack against a father of two young girls – a position that his friend Mitt Romney also holds. Last week, John McCain told Time magazine he couldn’t define what honor was. Now we know why.”

Yes, Obama believes that a lot of these kids should even be alive doesn’t he?
originalpechanga on September 9, 2008 at 9:34 PM
Yeah, I don’t know how many ads they need to run right now with Barry aiming a Thompson at his foot and firing in full auto.
fiatboomer on September 9, 2008 at 9:35 PM
You are right to defend him, but regardless it will sting Obama just because of the slippery slope argument. Sure today you want to just talk about touching, but tomorrow it’ll be ______.
Spirit of 1776 on September 9, 2008 at 9:35 PM
I’d say, given this and the lipstick comments, that the election is officially in the gutters. The 527 ads should be re-ally interesting.
BadgerHawk on September 9, 2008 at 9:36 PM
I’m with AP on this one. We don’t need to be acting like the Dims. Common sense here folks. (Applies to the “lipstick on a pig” bit too.)

If you are going to insinuate that someone is a pig don’t go crying when you get “busted in the mouth”.

Giving kindergarten kids full sex ed is a complete outrage. How are Catholic clergy going to operate as usual if kids are whining about everything to their parents? I’m glad that McCain is bringing it to our attention.
bayam on September 9, 2008 at 9:37 PM
I’m sure this has been said at least a thousand times already but, “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” ObamaNation wants a street fight. They got one. The fabled land of new politics was a mirage.
D0WNT0WN on September 9, 2008 at 9:37 PM
He is on the record saying he will “pay teachers more”. Today, he said teacher pay should be handled “teacher to teacher, without the interference of school boards”.
This begs a few questions;
1. If he plans to pay teachers more as President, does he plan to Federalize the local schools?
2. Did he get through the Harvard Law School without knowing the relationship between local schools and local school boards?
3. Is he just lying to get elected?
flyoverland on September 9, 2008 at 9:37 PM
McCain should hammer obama on guns and religeon since he clings so bitterly against them.
William Amos on September 9, 2008 at 9:37 PM
Stupid, stupid ad. Does McCain WANT to lose his advantage with Independents?
DanStark on September 9, 2008 at 9:37 PM
100 percent correct.
Allah, unless you’re Sunny Von Bulow, you’d know that this is how it always starts… an “innocent” little law to “protect the children.” Bull*hit.
D2Boston on September 9, 2008 at 9:38 PM
What a horrible misleading innacurate pile of sh*t this ad is.
Dave Rywall on September 9, 2008 at 9:38 PM
These programs might start out sounding innocent, but we all know how they grow. We’ve seen it happen over and over again. It’s the parents’ responsibility, and the parents’ right, to determine what their kids learn about sex (whether it starts as just lessons about “inappropriate touching” or whatever) and when.
The ad didn’t look bad and didn’t make it sound like they were handing condoms out to 3 year olds. We all know that they don’t want to hand condoms out to anyone younger than 10 … unless they can get away with it.
progressoverpeace on September 9, 2008 at 9:38 PM
Yep, there are a lot of people that have been punished… just look at all the kids. sarc off.

BadgerHawk on September 9, 2008 at 9:39 PM
Our schools can barely teach kids math, science and english.
Till we are #1 in each of those, why have sex ed at all?
lorien1973 on September 9, 2008 at 9:39 PM
Yeah, it doesn’t appear fair to me. But we do have his lies about his pro-abortion/infanticide record. Still, if they don’t have proof of more than what was noted at the Brody article, they shouldn’t have done this.

lorien1973 on September 9, 2008 at 9:40 PM
Obama is defintely on record, in one of the debates, saying he supports teaching homosexuality to 3rd graders(or somewhere around that age).
At any rate, he has bizarre views about young sex education, so I don’t think this ad is that bad.
TTheoLogan on September 9, 2008 at 9:40 PM
Yeah, McCain maybe stretching it a bit with this one. We’ll see what happens.

“In essence, Obama supported “age appropriate” sex-education for children as a means of teaching them what was proper or inproper touching, as well as to protect them against pedophiles”

My collie says:
CyberCipher on September 9, 2008 at 9:42 PM
Good point. It seems like there are a lot better uses of campaign funds. The first half of the ad was pretty good in itself, but no need to make stuff up.
BadgerHawk on September 9, 2008 at 9:42 PM
Regardless what you atheists think, this ad will stick with base, which is what wins elections.
Teaching five years olds about sexual touching in public schools, will not prevent rape.
Even The One is hesitant to say so, because he knows that rationale is so far out in the left field as to be looney.
Get over yourself Allah.. you are not the majority.
Mcguyver on September 9, 2008 at 9:42 PM
Not irrelevant. If he’s done so much for the Chicago schools like he claims, why aren’t they good enough for his kids?
flyoverland on September 9, 2008 at 9:42 PM
Sorry AP, if you read the link you referenced, the part about talking about “inappropriate touching” was a defensive remark made in the debate. He earlier said this: “We have a existing law that mandates sex education in the schools. We want to make sure that it’s medically accurate and age-appropriate.
This is a pretty general and many liberals think that teaching about homosexual sex is a great idea. Maybe you don’t have kids, but that is now what I send my kids to school to learn. Would the “medically accurate” information also include the warning that homosexual sex among men is the primary reason for the spread of AIDS in this country? I doubt it. Why give these radicals an opening to do this? Is the current left wing indoctrination they already get not enough?
Once again AP, you should move over to HuffPo or Kos.

This ad doesn’t do anything for me. Anyone with a half a brain knows this is lightweight and twisting the truth a bit. I’m still waiting for McCain to pull the big guns out and let the chickens come home to roost!. I’m waiting to see that one and yell “Down goes Frasier! Down goes Frasier!”

TheBigOldDog on September 9, 2008 at 9:51 PM
I completely disagree, AP. Obama is a far-left radical. I don’t believe for a minute his only motivation in the legislation was to protect children. It was a vehicle to move his liberal agenda forward, of which one of the main tenets is teaching sex education at the earliest age possible. McCain is right to hammer him on this, and I hope a series of ads follows – each one revealing a different liberal position held by Obama.
federalistpatriot on September 9, 2008 at 9:51 PM
sure, but that’s a rather weak response when Obama or the media says to McCain, “hey what about that ad”? If they got some damning evidence, fine. But I’ve not seen anything yet.

The bit about McCain’s “friend Mitt Romney” is kinda funny. The knee-jerk anti-Catholicism that still haunts this site: less so. As a Catholic, I am disgusted by so many of our bishops and priests. But, as a white guy, I don’t use the n-word. Take a lesson, bigots.

Admittedly I’m enough of a cynic that I claimed the moniker Diogenes BUT… it’s NOT as AP says. (or I don’t think so)
What we have is Obama’s spin on what he claims the law SHOULD do. (what “he has in mind” the law should do) I don’t have to tell anyone here that is meaningless. The only thing I care about is what the law REALLY does.
Sorry, but without looking at the bill, I can’t give Obama an out here… Too many times liberals write insane laws while claiming they do the opposite of what they really do..
Bottom line, if you’re bashing McCain (as I was) follow the link and reconsider… We don’t really know what the law would have done. All we have is Obama’s spin…. and I’m not ready to buy that on faith.
Are you?
Diogenes of Sinope on September 9, 2008 at 9:56 PM
I love how some of you defending Obama just “trust” the fact that the material he would advocate teaching our kids would be just fine. Bullshit. Given his past positions he has not earned that trust. This is an area where the parent should be the primary teacher based on their own values. I have had to correct the misinformation my kids learned in school so many times it is hard to count, we don’t need to give them more openings. All they want to do is spread their propaganda, when will you people ever learn? Their goal is to indoctrinate, not teach. Wake up folks. As Bill Ayers has been one of Obama’s main advisers on educational matters, I guess I don’t see why any of you would trust him.

We all know that Barack Obama and his worthless Democrat Party ARE pro-pedophile. If Barack Obama and his worthless Democrat Party get their way, the age of consent will be lowered to 12, as many gay advocacy groups lobby for, convicted pedophiles will get the vote after “serving” their time in jail and pedophiles will get “treatment” instead of the harsh sentences that they deserve.
Because of Barry’s worthless Democrat Party in fact, there are far more pedophiles than there would be if Democrat mayors and councils actually were interested in enforcing the law in major cities.
So screw pro-pedophile Barry Obama and his whining about these ads. Barry wants to teach kids about how wonderful homosexuality is in what, third grade? So as it goes for “progressives”, by his miraculous second term Barry will be for teaching it in pre-school, if he gets his way.

This Atheist thinks that the ad is spot on, especially in contrast the the out of context, half truths spewed by Obama’s education ad.
The Democrats are simply dead wrong on all aspects of education; from their BS about giving multiple test to reduce the drop out rate to their servitude to unions that protect worthless teachers.
The kindergarten thing is certainly as issue open for debate, even within it’s full context, but I for one think that the liberal line on sex education has gone off the deep end.
Yup, I am an Atheist who ardently believes that 9 out of 10 social problems we have go directly back to the lack of traditional values in the home.
Before you all write of us Atheists, you may want to consider that many of us share the same concept of traditional values as god-fearing folks. We just hold them because it’s the right thing to do, regardless of what god may or may not think about the matter.
