Hatred in Canada alive and well

Remember when Mark Steyn and Ezra Levant had to spend a lot of money answering to Canada’s absurd Human Rights Commission over charges of “hatred” for their work in pointing out the demographics of Islam in the West? I wonder what their HRC will make of Heather Mallick. After all, if Canada wants to stamp out “hatred”, then her column last week on Sarah Palin seems like a fine place to start:
I assume John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential partner in a fit of pique because the Republican money men refused to let him have the stuffed male shirt he really wanted. She added nothing to the ticket that the Republicans didn’t already have sewn up, the white trash vote, the demographic that sullies America’s name inside and outside its borders yet has such a curious appeal for the right.
So why do it?
It’s possible that Republican men, sexual inadequates that they are, really believe that women will vote for a woman just because she’s a woman. They’re unfamiliar with our true natures. Do they think vaginas call out to each other in the jungle night? I mean, I know men have their secret meetings at which they pledge to do manly things, like being irresponsible with their semen and postponing household repairs with glue and used matches. Guys will be guys, obviously.
Surely, this must be satire, you ask yourself about now, just as I did. A bit of journalistic irony in eventually complimenting Republicans for reaching past stereotypes and selecting the first Republican woman for a national ticket. Surely Mallick can’t be serious, you state.
But she is … and don’t call me Shirley.
Palin was not a sure choice, not even for the stolidly Republican ladies branch of Citizens for a Tackier America. No, she isn’t even female really. She’s a type, and she comes in male form too. …
Palin has a toned-down version of the porn actress look favoured by this decade’s woman, the overtreated hair, puffy lips and permanently alarmed expression. Bristol has what is known in Britain as the look of the teen mum, the “pramface.”
It takes Mallick several paragraphs before she can tear herself away from attacking Palin’s family, but not before she calls on them to shoot their new son-in-law-to-be for impregnating their daughter. Now, perhaps I’m just not recalling it properly, but I don’t believe that Steyn or Levant ever even suggested violence in their reports on Islam’s growth in the West. Nor did either write anything so deranged as Mallick did for the CBC, Canada’s major broadcaster.
Canada’s HRC and its affiliates in the provinces are offenses against free speech. I don’t think they should exist at all, as their very existence puts a strong chill on political speech. However, no one in Canada seemed outraged enough to stop them from shuttering Levant’s magazine and attempting to bankrupt both Levant and Steyn for some imagined hatred. Mallick has made it explicit. Will the Human Rights Commission now bankrupt the CBC in a similar manner, or will they expose themselves as nothing more than a partisan attack dog for the Left?
