Hatred in Canada alive and well

posted at 8:20 am on September 9, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

Remember when Mark Steyn and Ezra Levant had to spend a lot of money answering to Canada’s absurd Human Rights Commission over charges of “hatred” for their work in pointing out the demographics of Islam in the West?  I wonder what their HRC will make of Heather Mallick.  After all, if Canada wants to stamp out “hatred”, then her column last week on Sarah Palin seems like a fine place to start:

I assume John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential partner in a fit of pique because the Republican money men refused to let him have the stuffed male shirt he really wanted. She added nothing to the ticket that the Republicans didn’t already have sewn up, the white trash vote, the demographic that sullies America’s name inside and outside its borders yet has such a curious appeal for the right.

So why do it?

It’s possible that Republican men, sexual inadequates that they are, really believe that women will vote for a woman just because she’s a woman. They’re unfamiliar with our true natures. Do they think vaginas call out to each other in the jungle night? I mean, I know men have their secret meetings at which they pledge to do manly things, like being irresponsible with their semen and postponing household repairs with glue and used matches. Guys will be guys, obviously.

Surely, this must be satire, you ask yourself about now, just as I did.  A bit of journalistic irony in eventually complimenting Republicans for reaching past stereotypes and selecting the first Republican woman for a national ticket.  Surely Mallick can’t be serious, you state.

But she is … and don’t call me Shirley.

Palin was not a sure choice, not even for the stolidly Republican ladies branch of Citizens for a Tackier America. No, she isn’t even female really. She’s a type, and she comes in male form too. …

Palin has a toned-down version of the porn actress look favoured by this decade’s woman, the overtreated hair, puffy lips and permanently alarmed expression. Bristol has what is known in Britain as the look of the teen mum, the “pramface.”

It takes Mallick several paragraphs before she can tear herself away from attacking Palin’s family, but not before she calls on them to shoot their new son-in-law-to-be for impregnating their daughter.  Now, perhaps I’m just not recalling it properly, but I don’t believe that Steyn or Levant ever even suggested violence in their reports on Islam’s growth in the West.  Nor did either write anything so deranged as Mallick did for the CBC, Canada’s major broadcaster.

Canada’s HRC and its affiliates in the provinces are offenses against free speech.  I don’t think they should exist at all, as their very existence puts a strong chill on political speech.  However, no one in Canada seemed outraged enough to stop them from shuttering Levant’s magazine and attempting to bankrupt both Levant and Steyn for some imagined hatred.  Mallick has made it explicit.  Will the Human Rights Commission now bankrupt the CBC in a similar manner, or will they expose themselves as nothing more than a partisan attack dog for the Left?  (via The Anchoress)

“How dare Sarah Palin make it as far as she’s had without playing the victim card?!?” is basically all they are saying. Mallick is just jealous of Palin’s success.

Palin Derangement Syndrom has replaced Bush Derangement Syndrom as the liberals’ choice affliction.

Disturb the Universe on September 9, 2008 at 8:26 AM

Perhaps some women resent other women who are not only accomplished, but physically attractive. You’d think that someone like Palin would excite their admiration rather than their spite, but for leftist elitists, the thought of some “hick from the sticks” making it to the top is just too much to bear.

I love Canada, but this is complete and utter garbage. If there’s some way to have this woman hauled before their HRC, I’d love to see it happen. I don’t believe in the HRC, but if they’re going to prosecute Steyn and not this filth, it’s even more of a joke than it already appears to be.

Richard Romano on September 9, 2008 at 8:34 AM

I had to listen to someone like this just 2 nights ago here in Sofia Bulgaria. Canadian woman, who really needed to be taken down a peg or two. All uppity, about how much better Canadians are, embarrassed about Americans, and I really could have unloaded on her, except for two Aussies who were hoping to get laid, and it would have not been nice to ruin their chances of getting some Canadian angry vagina.

The stereotype of the “Ugly American” aboard, has long since been replaced by the Ugly Canadian (woman) and the Ugly European. Canadian men are usually find to hang out with though.

Dash on September 9, 2008 at 8:43 AM

Wow, does that lady have a resentment against men or what. I mean, let’s get real now; you can’t consider Liberal men as real men. Liberal men can be trained to whine on command, file law suits instead of engage in manly behavior, hand over the paycheck in order to get laid, spit at real men in uniform, dress up as a woman for costume parties (and dozens of other occasions) and enjoy the act of “bringing out the female side”….. This bi**h is the type that thought Tiny Tim was a beautiful and manly man.

Keemo on September 9, 2008 at 8:44 AM

As an American living in Canada, I’ve observed a number of de facto exemptions from the HRC “jurisdiction:”

Men
Americans
Republicans

However, there is hope: Quietly, Canada began its own Federal election campaign. The Conservative Party, currently leading a minority government, has the chance to win enough additional seats to form a majority government by October 15th. Rumor has it that the Conservatives may commit to a significant “re-engineering” of the responsibilities of the Human Rights Commission at the federal level (there are also provincial HRC’s).

It could be a great fall:

McCain/Palin for USA
Harper (Conservative Prime Minister) for Canada
Death to the HRC control over the right to free speech.

The way I count ‘em, that’s three opportunities to celebrate with some moose stew!

The Wild Duck on September 9, 2008 at 8:44 AM

Where to start? How about with excerpts of this as a campaign commercial for McCain/Palin?

- Ladies of America, you who are suddenly awakened by Sarah Palin’s candidacy, the radical left liberals describe you as “white trash”.

- They don’t think Sarah Palin is actually “female”.

- They think your husbands are “sexual inadequates”. (Don’t tell your kids.)

- Are you members of “the stolidly Republican ladies branch of Citizens for a Tackier America”?

Heh.

Mallick works for the CBC, which is the next-to-last refuge for many leftist Canadian journalists. The only place after that is Al-Jazeera’s English network.

She proves why the CBC should be eliminated. Over a billion dollars a year of taxpayers’ money goes into it, and this is what comes out. They’re nothing but a den of thieves. End the CBC like the way the French did the Bastille in 1789.

Stupid Canadians! I was in Toronto on 9/11. They cheered the attack, saying America got what it deserved. Their main concern, ironically enough, was increased security at the border which delayed their exports. These people have taken America for granted. Some even said that Canada should teach the US a lesson by cutting off energy exports, as if it was an Achilles Heel. Little do they know that the US can take it longer than Canada can dish it out. South Park portrayed that beautifully – they’d be starving in a week.

When did Canadians get to vote in the United States?

I like Canada. Best neighbor one can have. Over the years Canada has been good to us. Has a lot to offer. A lot of good and decent folks live in Canada. But, like, us, they have their share of useful idiots.

But, as these columnists show, there is a foreign angle here, and one that most thinking Americans reject.

The Left depends on them. Having a Canadian or a Euro leftist write anti-Bush columns and now writing anti-Palin columns validates the American Left. It tells the American Left they have brothers in arms across the seas. Tells them that if the Euros hate America then the American Left can hate America, to, because if those wonderfully smart Euros don’t like us, then Bush-McCain got it all wrong.

News flash for the Obama campaign: Out here in flyover country, each time a Euro or Canadian leftist publishes another column bashing Bush, or Palin, or America, or some has-been Brit rock star uses American TV as aforum to slap America, it convinces another large bunch of Americans that being American is something to be proud of, and cherish, and we will defend our Nation to our last vote.

And a lot of us out in flyover country can say a lot more than “Merci, beaucoup.” We learned our foreign language defending other nations all across the globe as we defended Ours. And we’ve had regular folks on foreign streets say “thank you” in dozens and dozens of other languages along the way.

They’re unfamiliar with our true natures. Do they think vaginas call out to each other in the jungle night?

A person would reason that way because they reason that way from their own perspective; they think the penis calls out in the jungle night. Again, ‘penis is good (Zardoz) but vagina is not’ is ridiculously misogynistic coming from a male, and pathetic from a female.

Stick with the brain if you have one yourself, Mallick.

We are winning the campaign on ISSUES!

This sexism proves how hideously lamentable Obama is proving himself to be.

I wanted to comment from the Drudge photo caption, GOP team etiquette: hug not kiss, that it is refreshing to see polite body contact for public example protocol. Westerners see through the elitist fake kiss mimicking Europeans. Americans are comfortable showing acceptance with a pat on the back without going over the top cheek to cheek or lip to lip. I like our own American greeting of a brain to brain hug. The McCain-Palin example is good showing that a pat on the back is the American way, less cheeky than Europe and less formally distant than Asia. McCain and Palin’s etiquette is a good example for kids. As a team, they do not totally insulate their “space” with NO TOLERANCE FOR WHAT IS APPROPRIATE CONTACT. I take this tangent concerning the public PC that isolates the human creature from infancy through all degrees of education and business environment.

Just as sexism is over the line, complete PC insulation is over the line.

Total insulation is not healthy, but is the ideal of the elite.

Our culture has been laboratory isolated and experimented upon by Marxist tests so long that we are not even aware of the extent we now stand on grounds that inhibit our better relations one with another. PC is too strong as it rules our lives even though it is false.

This McCain Presidency with VP Palin will RE-DEFINE American etiquette protocol into a much more reasonable and healthy manner for productive and respectable social environment. That alone is a great reason to vote their ticket. Defy cultural sterilization that only tolerates Marx.

We’re more than happy to be your #1 Trade partner and all that, but please don’t pretend that you’re somehow an inherently better place to be considering over 90% of your population lives within 100 miles of our border, and the number jumping ship so they can get actual care for when they are actually sick is legion.

I travel to Canada weekly, and this attitude is quite common. The Globe & Mail is another great source for vile, emotion driven hatred of Sarah Palin. Mainstream thought up there is a bit more deranged than even the daily vowel movements on Kos. I’ve stopped watching tv up there, and outside of doing the daily crossword in whichever complimentary newspaper the hotels provide, I avoid Canadian ‘news’, and opinion entirely.
