Video: Thing from Britain begs MTV viewers to elect Obama; Update: Britney cheers

Just what the doctor ordered for Barry this morning: An endless cable news loop of this creature from abroad going after Palin’s kid and her 18-year-old fiance.

The boss is already on backlash watch. Current pessimism meter reading: 9.5.

Update: A tipster points out that at 48 seconds in, you’ll find one of the biggest celebrities in the world applauding for the biggest.

Blowback

An English backlash bozo. How grand!

MTV has been going down for years….which also lost it’s cool

There are some great English people.
This guy is just the bottom of the gutter.
Just remember, we have winners like Sean Puff Daddy, P Diddy, Pee Did, P, Combs.

I don’t understand why this is considered ‘entertainment’. Even though it is free, I want my money back for watching that clip.

One of my favorite video clips from “World Shut Your Mouth” comes to mind for some reason.

Debbie: on board with Sarah Palin yet?

carbon_footprint on September 8, 2008 at 12:08 PM

Not that it’s at all related to this topic, but who said I wasn’t “on board”? As I wrote in the same column in which I lamented the GOP embrace of Mr. Mom and teen pregnancy:

I like Sarah Palin, and I will be voting for her, more than John McCain.

Guess you missed that part. There’s a difference between blind support/going overboard and supporting someone: critical thinking. I don’t ride bandwagons. They get poor mileage per gallon.

Debbie Schlussel on September 8, 2008 at 12:19 PM

Could we write the Guardian and encourage them to write condesending letters to indies again?? Perhaps Macomb County or Pittsburg? And make sure that the letters mention how these people cling to guns and Jesus.

Illinidiva on September 8, 2008 at 12:20 PM

Brand’s running theme for the evening centered around the Jonas Brothers and their rings — until Sparks stepped on stage to have her say about his constant remarks.

Not everyone wants to be a slut,” Sparks spat back, the auditorium filling with applause. Sparks, Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez are also among the young stars who have vowed to remain chaste.

Sparks told Pop Tarts later at the In Touch magazine after-party that she was more than happy to put Brand — known as Britain’s ultimate playboy — in his place.

“Somebody had to do it,” she said.

Thank you radical post modern Tiny Tim for helping to get McCain/Palin elected.

Pepsi was a co sponsor of the MTV awards.
Their number is 1-800-433-2652.
Verizon was also a sponsor I believe their number is 1-908-559-3500.
They sponsored a show that brought a foreigner to the US to trash talk our president.
I think they are waiting on our calls.

Thanks for posting this information. When the advertisers get enough of an ear full they’ll understand what this crap is doing to their brand.

As far as using the same old anti America mantra… it just isn’t a good campaign tactic.

I’m currently located in a completely Dem area in the West and everywhere we go people, men and women, are talking about how McCain is a crafty guy to have thought to turn the GOP campaign upside down with the Palin pick. If you’ve read his book with Mark Salter, Hard Call – The Art of Great Decisions about tough decision making, you already know the Maverick has been studying the importance of making the best decision. It’s an Art!

It’s always fun when the Brits try to give us advice on how to run our country.

I remember Radiohead pushing hard to get Nader elected back in 2000. I wonder if they know he’s running this year too, ’cause he’s not on their homepage anymore.

Expect to see a huge-yet-”nonpartisan” push from Viacom-owned Nickelodeon as well with their “Kids Pick the President” promos.

Look, going against the current thread here but…

This guy is actually quite hilarious (this particular case exempted). Saw him on Conan, etc.

The problem is that he’s is not funny here. What’s the old saying: a true comedian would rather not tell a joke than tell a unfunny joke. This guy needs to learn that.

Why is everyone here avoiding the real issue?

Britney Spears won VIDEO OF THE YEAR for a sub-par effort! I mean, this was the same award given to “Sledgehammer”, “Take on Me” and “Doo Wop (That Thing).”

Seriously (ish), politics aside, the MTV VMA’s used to be cool. Maybe it’s the lack of videos on television, the fragmentation of the audience, or the fact that there are fewer megawatt artists than there used to be, but the awards just ‘aint what they used to be.

On sept 12th 2001 Russell dressed up like OBL and went to work at MTV. Clearly this stunt showed who and what this guy is and his antics should have resulted in him being blackballed for life.

Someone at the MTV site had a good suggestion. I recommend passing it on:

Just wanted to get the infomation out. I know we are all busy, but as most of you are taking the time to write here, I am asking that you also make a call to Pepsi. I just got off the phone with a rep and she was very nice and said they had been flooded with calls. This is making a difference. Let your voice be heard! 1-800-433-2652 hit extension 0 and then you will be directed to a rep.

Oh I almost forgot.

He is a former heroin addict, sex addict, alcoholic and has had numerous run-ins with the police, having been arrested 11 times for public indecency.[34] During the time of his addiction, he was known for his debauchery, a notable example being his ejection from The Gilded Balloon, in Edinburgh.[35] He has abstained from drug use since 2003 and is now a patron of the addiction charity Focus 12.[36] His abandonment of drugs and alcohol was instigated by his agent John Noel.[37] He did so with the help of the Hare Krishnas, to whom he feels “indebted”.[38]

Yeah he is really one to be talking about people who shouldn’t be trusted with scissors

The difference is that I’m opening the door to the possibility that Brand said that junk as part of his act. He’s a shock comedian. Read his full bio.

A couple people here instantly figured me a lefty and started taking pot shots. That’s weak and lacks critical thinking ability.

SlimyBill on September 8, 2008 at 1:32 PM

natesnake on September 8, 2008 at 1:28 PM

actually, I never figured you for that. I have read his bio, and it’s like a bad nightmare. Heroin, drunkenness, sex addict…the list goes on. This doesn’t look like satire to me, and if it was intended as satire, it was EXACTLY the wrong audience to play it on. There are plenty of these MTV morons who think exactly like that and would go “See? I told ya BushitlerMcChimpyHalliburton was the source of all evil in the world!”

I don’t think anyone would have also believed what was typed here about you (it did really seem to be satire), but it made a point. Satire in the wrong venue can provoke an unintended reaction.

Either Brand really believes his vomitous spew, and he needs to be dismissed as a kook, or he was doing an “in character” presentation, in which the audience failed to see the greater humor (humour?). If that is the case, why didn’t he explain that when he was also apologizing to others for an unrelated infraction he committed last night?

For the record, I still think Brand is not being satirical here.

RobCon on September 8, 2008 at 1:41 PM

Typical of the elitist liberal arrogance is the notion that they’re so bright that they are entitled to lecture us plebes on their obviously enlightened political views. So they use every venue to bash Bush or ram their leftist bile down our throats, whether it’s a Madonna/Dixie Chicks concert, a movie (even the new X-Files movie had a picture of Bush accompanied by the TV show’s theme music), television shows and, of course, the news media. Then they throw something like this piece of limey sludge on stage and destroy their carefully crafted persona of sophisticated, well-educated, holier than thou, self-righteous, entitled to rule, political master. Behold, the truth. Irrational, atavistic hatred of what must surely be lesser beings lies under the mask of compassion and wisdom.

It’s no surprise that freaks, losers and criminals love Obama. The freaks identify with Obama. Normal people identify with Sarah and McCain. Freaks make a lot of noise and act like their ideas are great and are extremely popular. Normal folks just go about their day, working hard, raising families and do it without a lot of fuss and self celebratory grandstanding. The freaks only convince each other of how great they think they are.

Normal folks will do what needs to be done.

I’m not really worried about this election anymore.

As the snooty Death Star cell block guard in Star Wars said, “Where are you going with that…thing?”

Brand was born in Grays, Essex, England, the only child of Barbara Elizabeth (née Nichols) and Ronald Henry Brand, a photographer.[2] His parents separated when Russell was 6-months-old. Brand had a quite isolated and lonely childhood.[3]

Small wonder, that.

Get out your mechanics creepers. Latest headline for posting under the bus: “Obama denounces MTV Awards Host, says British comic is not the Russell Brand I thought I knew, if only I knew who he was.”

BTW, this is example 13,084,352,539,598 of how stupid the left is to claim that Bush is taking away their rights and stifling free speech, etc. He calls Bush a “retarded cowboy fellow”… which is actually probably mild compared to what we hear on Maher, etc. But never mind, let Alex Jones keep telling his flock that they’ll be locked up for dissent… all the while they can call the rest of us sheep.
