Video: Hemmer sandbags Beckel over saying Palin will self-destruct

posted at 2:45 pm on September 8, 2008 by Allahpundit

In which the Foxies do a little investigative journalism on private hallway conversations between their own pundits and producers. Worth watching just for Beckel’s Oliver-Hardy-esque comic flusterment. Is “flusterment” a word? It is now.

Here’s the first pitch in the game to present her as self-destructing, earning swings from the boss, Ramesh Ponnuru, and Treacher. The left understands perfectly well that a lie is as good as the truth, especially with a friendly media, which is why she can’t afford even arguable “gaffes” like this one. And yeah, I know, Biden has his share of gaffes too, but they won’t stick for the same reason McCain’s gaffes don’t stick anywhere except in Nutrootsville: Because he’s been in Washington for so long, no one except the most strident partisan believes he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Whereas with Palin, all it’ll take is one Sunni/Shia snafu at the debate and it’s Bill Paxson time.

Did he actually try to sneak the word “pig” in there to refer to Palin…??!??!!??
.
Yep, Beckel did call all hockey moms PIGS.
They are frustrated and losing badly, but this is the real left showing now.
Some people get drunk and spout off, the Obama team has Beckel to call Sarah Palin and many women PIGS.
.
I had a feeling this “PIG” statement might hit a nerve.

Re: Fannie & Freddie costing taxpayers. Of course they cost taxpayers. If the Feds pick up the risk, that’s cost: just ask any derivatives trader.

This could not happen to a nicer guy.Good for you Hemmer.

Hemmer was just elevated considerably, in my eyes. Job well done, Hemmer!

sinsing on September 8, 2008 at 4:33 PM

One thing I’ll always remember about Bill Hemmer is something that came up during CNN’s coverage of the 2000 election. They read a letter from one viewer who said, “I’ve been watching this for two weeks and I still don’t know what Bill Hemmer’s politics are.” Neither did I.

In this age of blatantly biased reporting, Bill Hemmer is and always has been a true professional.

fixed

but if he’s non-partisan–or hides it well–kudos anyway

Beckel considers this a gaffe? When you’ve got two government-backed semi-private loan organizations labeled “Federal”, it’s a safe bet that the taxpayers will be on the hook sooner or later, or now.

Flashback to Dem convention: “What city are you in, Daddy?” And Daddy didn’t know. It was too far from those communities he organized in the 57th state.

Steve Z on September 8, 2008 at 5:25 PM

Beckel is such a worthless jackass. I can’t believe anyone takes him seriously anymore.

They will say the pig comment doesn’t matter because Beckel was “ambushed” by FOX producers. By doing this and talking louder they change the subject. Liberals 101…

Ozprey on September 8, 2008 at 5:50 PM

Actually, I’m quite sure that people already see Freddie and Fannie Mae as government screw ups because government money goes in there even if it comes out looking like “private”. With the government stepping in, that little whatever will flow under the bridge like a dead leaf off a tree.

What mcCain et al need to watch for is big Gaffes. Don’t try to make Palin sound like she knows more than she does because she will fail. If it is about war and Sunni/Shia, I think she should defer that to McCain and talk about how the President, DoD and the Secretary of state are the most knowledgeable people about these subjects and responsible for that information to flow up and make decisions.

A good manager does not pretend they have all the answers, they just know where to get them.

McCain will be the President which makes the foreign policy decisions. She should see her role as being geared toward the domestic energy and economy areas where she has strong references and experience. Tying that somewhat to the foreign policy issues of energy, which she probably has a much stronger tie, would be better. Just not that trying to riff off a long list of countries tying into an event. Stay general with only a few specific items that she can hammer on. Russia in Georgia. Iran, China, Russia. (ooh, see a pattern?)

Also, McCain should be making some strong foreign policy statements and contrasting it with Obama, smoking old joe as the second tier and Obama as the guy who wants to be in charge and doesn’t actually know anything.

McCain, also though, should be careful not to talk about things he knows nothing about.

She is not up for handling the national stage because she is a “she?”

Bobby, Bobby, Bobby. Any mother of five is tougher than Obama and Biden put together.

Elizabetty on September 8, 2008 at 5:55 PM

On one hand I say it serves him right for running off at the mouth to a Fox producer. But “gotcha” moments are a MSNBC forte and have no business on a serious news network.

Doesn’t the SuperCollider save Sarah and John Conner from the Terminator. It can’t be all that bad. The Science is solid on this experiment. Particle collisions have happened inside nuclear explosions many times and none of them have formed a black hole. You need more matter than is available from the earth and it’s single star (The Sun).

Beckel is scum. He was born scum, he lived as scum, he will die scum. He’s already proven what he thinks of women, so this should come as no surprise.

Bob Beckel needs to start on Jenny Craig, ASAP!

Don’t hold back…

:) I think Beckel is complete douche as well.

“The difference between a hockey mom and a rotweiller, er a pitbull, or maybe even a pig, is lipstick…”

Yeah Beckel said it.

And Beckel gets his talking points from David Axelrod.

I’ve already sent a letter to fox and asked if they ever vetted their commentators? I also included the link from his little hooker.
He has made me sick from his beginning on the show.
Colmbs (?) also makes me sick. My husband refused to listen to the show and takes darling dog for walk during the show. I’m loyal to Hannity and so I feel badly about it.
Now to msnbc: they have that little military pipsqueak “clark” and he is a turn off. (worse than that!)
Then that big polygamist (thinks he’s an actor) who couldn’t stop saying, “liar, liar liar liar (it goes on for 5 minutes) to the Swift Boat patriot person, so that he didn’t get a chance to say word one. He was kicked off the cable then, but he’s back.
So msnbc is off my list (and I wrote them today to tell them so) and I will watch the football game tonight and get a list of all the adds on the pregame and the half time and will write them about the olby. If you want I will list all the ones I can come up with. I think we need to let them know how we feel.
I’m not looking forward to hear olby on it…..

Beckel is the first on FOX news to call Palin a pig. Some loser on Fox & Friends said the same thing this morning. Must have got that on the daily DNC talking points.

Video is dead.

Bicyea on September 8, 2008 at 10:11 PM

A pit bull wearing lip stick should have been brought in to chase Beckel out of the studio.
