Michelle Obama on VP: “What you learn about Barack from his choice is that he’s not afraid of smart people”

posted at 7:23 pm on September 8, 2008 by Allahpundit

I’m sure she didn’t mean what it sounds like she meant. The crowd was, um, laughing at something else.

Obama then moved on to politics, where she first brought up her husband’s vice-presidential choice. “I think it was a really good pick—Senator Joe Biden,” she said, and later added, “People say they have amazing chemistry, and it’s true.”

Obama continued with talk about Biden when she said, “What you learn about Barack from his choice is that he’s not afraid of smart people.” The crowd softly chuckled.

How smart is Biden? Smart enough that he’s now taking credit for anticipating the path to victory in Iraq despite being the only candidate on either ticket who voted on the wrong side of the current conventional wisdom about the war and the surge. Exit question: Isn’t it more likely the crowd was laughing at the idea that Biden’s smart?

Update: More thinly veiled sarcasm from an Obama. “Mother, governor, moose-shooter… no, that’s cool. I mean that’s cool stuff!”

Update: I’ll give her this — she’s got better moves than The One. Although still not as smooth as NBC’s new election anchor.

Update: Bill Kristol thinks The One’s laughing at Biden too. Sort of.

Yes, I do seriously believe that is much more likely.

Obama said that he was going to resciend the bush tax increases. This has been a common theme of his. Over the weekend, Obama said, “hey, maybe those bush tax cuts should stay around for a while.”

The crowd was chuckling at her putting a positive spin on it. Biden got like 1% of the primary vote. Democrats can’t stand the pompous jerk. They are chuckling because they know that Michele Obama is full of it and she knows that they know that she is full of it.

Unfortunately, for the Obama’s, this is what it has come down to and no one is buying into their stump speech.

Curly: Why’d you hit me?

MO: To make you smart

Curly: Nyuk. Nyuk. Nyuk.

Exit Answer: Not likely at all. The average person had never really heard about Biden until he was picked as Obama’s VP and they probably haven’t done much research on him. They don’t know about his plagarism, his “top of my class” lies or his “my IQ is higher than yours” quip. They know basic memes and that’s about it (not because they’re stupid, but, because, for the most part, they don’t really care, so don’t bother to get informed like us political junkies).

There is no basic meme out there about Biden being dumb. There’s a meme that he was the safe choice…the experienced choice, but nothing that would cause your average tv audience to laugh at the implication that he’s smart.

However, there is a meme out there that Palin is a dumb yokel from some small town in Alaska. She’s definitely the one they were laughing at.

progressoverpeace on September 8, 2008 at 8:18 PM

The truth of the matter is that all of Barack Obama’s past political associations lead one to believe that in the long run, he IS A SOCIALIST in a left-leaning centrist’s bullshit attire.

His whole political past tells a left-leaning tale, and he has yet to deny William Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, and the Chicago Ultra-libs that attended his political beginnings.

Social justice was his catch-phrase for a long time, and now he needs to explain his definition of social justice, since his whole public life until his candidacy was devoted to such.

What does Barry mean by “social justice”? Hmmmm? Anyone??

Not vigorously. From what I recall he just tried to say ‘no’ and move on.

progressoverpeace on September 8, 2008 at 8:36 PM

I find it amazing and very telling that Barry has yet to be questioned seriously about his Chicago political underpinnings and political associations with the likes of Ayers.

I believe that if the average American Joe ande Jane knew more about Barry’s associations and the sources of his political positions, there would be an exodus from his camp that would be the end of this particular chapter in American Politics.

How smart is Biden? Smart enough that he’s now taking credit for anticipating the path to victory in Iraq despite being the only candidate on either ticket who voted on the wrong side of the current conventional wisdom about the war and the surge.

Being told that “The Surge”, hallowed be it’s name, is such a big success is like a doctor telling a patient that the cast he put on their broken leg has been so successful in allowing the patient’s leg to heal that he must keep the cast on!.

There are, last I checked, about 140,000 American troops in Iraq, and that’s not even counting the huge number of contractors, which is more than there were before “The Surge”, hallowed be it’s name, began, and Bush is saying that there will be few troops withdrawn during the next 6 months on top of that.

If “The Surge”, hallowed be it’s name, was so successful then by now we would, by all logic unquestionably, be having a reverse surge.

But I know, it’s all about sis-boom-bah win-win-win!!!, while most Americans are, of course, out shopping.

You’re a regular military genius. What unit did you serve with? The surge worked and we won the war.

We still have troops in Japan and Germany 60 years after WWII. There were still American GI’s being killed by the Nazis 5 & 6 years after that “surge” worked. It’s the military we’re dealing with here, not the Sierra Club.

You’re a regular military genius.

Oh that was really cleaver. Do you start all your conversations with that brilliant ice-breaker? It does not take a military genius to comprehend the obvious.

What unit did you serve with?

A unit under XXIV Corps, RVN. How about you? What does that have to do with it anyway?

The surge worked and we won the war.

Never minding that no one has ever adequately explained exactly what it is that we are suppose to have “won” (and please don’t go on about a freedom loving, rule-of-law democracy that will be “an ally in the war on terror” as now Shiite controlled Iraq is far more a natural ally of fellow Shiite Iran than of infidel America), if the war has now been “won” in Iraq we would not have MORE troops there than we did before the “Surge” started with no plans to bring more than a smattering home during the next several months. Soon after VE and VJ days the big majority of U.S. troops came home. By your bass-ackwards “logic” if most of the troops were on their way home from Iraq now or getting ready to come home that would mean that “The Surge” failed and we have lost the war.

We still have troops in Japan and Germany 60 years after WWII. There were still American GI’s being killed by the Nazis 5 & 6 years after that “surge” worked.

Trying to equate Iraq with Germany and Japan is absurd on it’s face. Our Generals kiss Korans there and tip-toe around filthy Islam. In Germany did they kiss Mein Kampf and tip-toe around Nazism? Within a couple of years after Hitler’s fall more American troops were marrying Germans than were being killed by them. BTW, Malik does not want us there any ridiculous 60 years. All indications are that he wants us out almost as soon as Obama does.

It’s the military we’re dealing with here, not the Sierra Club.

Mojave Mark on September 8, 2008 at 10:49 PM

It’s Islam, not the Sierra club.

BTW, if none of what I said sunk in, have you heard General Petraeus saying “we won the war”? If you think you have you had better get your ears checked because he has said no such thing. Maybe you could send him a letter telling him sarcastically “You’re a regular military genius”
