Courtesy of, oh, a good half-dozen e-mailers, a little something soothing for a slow Sunday afternoon. Consider it the right-wing equivalent of lefties laughing at people for speaking in tongues. Which, alas for our nutroots superiors, Sarah Palin does not.

It’s not just lefties who laugh at people speaking in tongues. There are hardcore conservative Christians who laugh at them.

Um, just noticed, the stump they are crying about…
It wasn’t CUT down… Look at it… its not clean.
I’ve cut a bunch of trees down im my time, and never left a stump that looked like that… too low to the ground, and not clean…

I would love to have wrapped det cord around about a 100 trees around their little cry fest and detinated it.

My mother lives in Eureka, CA. I visited her a few years back and we drove around the redwoods not far from her house. All I could see was millions of board-feet of beautiful deck lumber on the hoof. Rush is right. Trees may be beautiful, but what you can make from them is even more so.

Did they mourn the cotton plants violently neutered by ripping off their “bolls” to make their jeans?
BacaDog on September 7, 2008 at 4:04 PM
What you are seeing here is the results of Al Gore indoctrination by our schools and all around us, its a dangerous thing. These people are totally deceived, they really think the world’s resources are in danger… they are not. Environmentalism is a religion, its a pagan religion, its worship of the creation rather than of the Creator. This is the sad state of affairs we find ourselves in after allowing leftist to take over our schools and universities.
I feel sorry for these people, I wish I could sit them down and talk to them. Everything they believe is a lie, partly supported by our tax dollars in the forms of “global warming research” and funding of public schools that push the environmental agenda. It is truly sad. These people go around depressed and anguished because of lies.

Sorry Maxx, but my mother is one of them and I’ve tried talking to her. Does no good. They are 90% emotion and 10% (or less) sound reasoning. Reason number 1 why I live in Indiana. A higher percentage of sane folk.

Really, you don’t think so? The book that is credited with kicking-off the environmental movement was Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring first published in 1962 and the environmental drumbeat has only got louder and louder since that time. Amazingly, even though the central themes of the book have been completely debunked, the book is in it’s 104th edition and is still a best seller with a sales rank of 898 at Amazon.
To have that high a sales rank, I’m guessing its probably required reading at most of our institutions of higher learning.
This was the book that eventually got DDT banned. The death toll in third world countries due to malaria is in the MILLIONS according to Free Republic and American Spectator. These mislead people are crying for the trees and don’t even know about the millions dead because of the lie they have embraced.

Seven Percent Solution on September 7, 2008 at 5:45 PM
If these people really are in North Carolina, then they don’t know anything about the forest lands (or the little stump over which they are wailing.)
Eastern forests have been “cut over” several times, such that there’s really no “old growth” in the sense of “virgin” forest land. You can find woods that “look” old because the trees are big, but that doesn’t make it an old growth forest.
So in addition to being loony, they are also ecologically incorrect.

No, I really don’t. I think it’s a ‘human’ thing. Think of all the gaZILLIONS of school children (myself included) who’ve gone through school since the mid-60’s and survived in a pseudo-normal fashion, while EVERY decade has had it’s fervent fads and followers. (And I’m not talking polyester.) In the 50’s, it was the Beat Generation, right? In the 60’s it was the ‘hippies’ ~ peace, love and happiness ~ and morphed into a virulent anti-war movement in the 70’s. And they’ve always been pretty much fringe groups, with, of course, the requisite college kid experimenters buying in for a while, but the core group ~ the weeping, pain-rent screamers ~ remains a minuscule fraction of the general populace.
And the original comment blamed Al Gore for the wood folks ~ now we’ve backed THAT up to Rachel Carson. Whatever the legacy as far as DDT goes ~ and I’m not well-versed enough to even begin to comment ~ the book itself was a watershed moment for waking up and watching what was going on around us. And what WE were doing and allowing to be done to our environment, which is not at ALL a bad thing. If the environmental education I received from 1963 on consisted of “pick up your frickin’ trash, sewage shouldn’t be discharged directly into the watershed, don’t let your chemical/gasoline/dry cleaning tanks leak and leach into the soil, etc” ~ which it DID ~ that’s definitely a worthy result.
But we’ve been so fat, dumb and happy for so many years, so lulled into a sense of complacency by the ease of our lives, so privileged in our great way of life, that it was less hassle to let the more radical wailers have their way, instead of put a foot down. (”We’ve got boatloads of power, so who gives a whoop if we don’t get that reactor/refinery.”) It’s going to be hard to hammer home the commonsense approach. (Look at the drilling squawking coming from the Left! DUH, Laurie ~ you need fuel for that private jet!) Where we ARE ahead is in the technology and THAT point should be the banner flying. What was worthy of skepticism in the 70’s and 80’s is safely DOABLE now.
But no, it’s not Al Gore. {8^P It’s the simple-minded fools who follow a drum as if their lives depended on it, whether it’s beaten by the Fox sisters in 1848, Ginsberg in 1959, Leary in 1968…you get my drift. Hell, throw the Beetles in there, too ~ that group in the forest sounds a lot like the chippies losing their minds at JFK.
The rest of us?
Not so much.
tree hugging sister on September 7, 2008 at 6:05 PM
This is the democrat base right here. People who talk about getting closer to nature and then live just like the rest of us. Hippie-crits.
Mojave Mark on September 7, 2008 at 6:07 PM
Most of this has been brought up already.
1. What type of house do they live in?
2. How did they get there?
3. What about the trees cut down for the cotton fields and soy fields that provide them with food and clothing?
4. What about the poor Soy and Cotton plants? Are they not as worthy as trees? Or is this an extention of abortion because you take the seeds away before they can grow to a mature plant?
The afterschool club that had the largest faculty support at my highschool was SEA (Students for Environmental Action)some of the students in SEA I am sure would burn down an entire GM dealership to protest the Hummer, completely neglecting the environmental damage done by that act and the fact that more resources will be “wasted” in rebuilding.

These enviro-nuts wannabe hippies…sheesh…
From the looks of it all, seems when they were younger, they forget to exhale. Cannabis can do that to ya.
The trees they are claiming to want to protect probably have higher IQ’s, and give back to the earth a lot more than these whackos.

I think what you are saying is that there have always been nutballs and there always will be and I agree. There is always a segment to society that for whatever reason is very inclined to go with the newest politically correct thing and run with it.
You say I mentioned Al Gore then backed up to Silent Spring, yep, I did that. But what I meant was Al Gore like teachings, but I didn’t make it clear. I meant to show that the environmental movement has been around for a long time and has been pushed very hard. And it is in all our schools, I’m pretty old and it was even in the schools when I was a kid.
Anyway, I guess we will just disagree on this one. I really think the environmental movement is responsible for the kind of fervent/delusional mindset that we see above.

It’s obviously on their sliding scale of outrage.
So, a tree’s life is more of something to cry about when it’s cut down than a pot plant. Maybe they think it gave it’s live willingly so they could get high.
Not to mention that they are upset when a tree is cut down and ‘dies.’ When it is a crop. You can grow more. Just like corn with a longer lifespan. Again, they are more upset with a ‘dead tree’ and don’t give a crap about a dead baby when it’s aborted. Because it’s the woman’s ‘choice.’
…. See? Once you start applying logic to these people ….
