Video: No, Obama didn’t “admit” to being a Muslim on ABC

Within 10 minutes of this airing we’d already gotten four or five e-mails about it; 20 minutes later, a bowdlerized version had already hit YouTube and begun circulating. I despise lefty sites for twisting conservatives’ words by selectively editing clips, so let’s cut this one off at the pass before it gets going. Here’s the full exchange with Stephanopoulos, making it perfectly clear that when he says “my Muslim faith” he’s referring to how the people smearing him see him, not how he sees himself. No mas, please.
Exit question: If McCain’s responsible for every smear leveled against Obama by a conservative whether he condemns it or not — as certain prominent nutroots bloggers have long asserted — then by extension isn’t Sullivan’s Palin smearapalooza a de facto operation of the Obama campaign? Assuming, that is, that it’s not an actual operation of the Obama campaign.

He’s simply not used to it. This is the first time he has had to face an opoonent from start to finish in a campaign. Barry simply was not ready for the top job this cycle.
MidgetMan3 is a democratic operative. That he felt the need to try to defuse the gaffe shows how in the tank This Week is. THAT is what we point out to people by showing the clip.
They can make up there own mind on the fruedian nature or not of Uh bam Uh’s “eloquence”.
sven10077 on September 7, 2008 at 4:41 PM
This one’s difficult. I don’t think he slipped, because he seemed to be considering his words carefully in the moments before the “admission.” At the same time I just find it hard to believe in the trutheristic theory that bambi is secretly a muslim attempting to take over the US and spread sharia law.
DarkeningCloud on September 7, 2008 at 4:41 PM
If we didn’t defend him for being Muslim (defined as a religion), the left would swoop in and brand us as bigoted hypocrites, and probably manage to discredit the right’s claim as defenders of the Constitution.
This incident, to me, is not funny at all. It reminds me quite painfully of how Islam has been incorrectly defined, and how several of our flanks are vulnerable because of it.

Obama loves home grown unrepentant terrorists that wish they did more bombings, he loves the corrupted slumlords in Chicago that kept the low income African-American communities in poorly heated homes and filth that Obama organized and that slumlord financed Obama’s campaigns in Chicago, Obama loves the Racist Reverend that he spent time with in Chicago for 20 years that showed him around the community and taught him how to trick the masses..

MadisonConservative on September 7, 2008 at 4:44 PM
I guess in the absolute worse case scenario. I’m unconvinced. If someone lies and uses that lie for political reasons, most people don’t go “but if the lie was true”. Rudy is a great example, he eviscerated Obama on the divided Jerusalem issue without making it about anti-Semitism etc. The guys running the campaign has been running a hard hitting, but fair campaign. So fair that Step had to challenge Obama’s assertion McCain plays the race card.
So no, I’m not going worry about. A liar is a liar first. Subject matter is secondary to character.

Wow. This thread has really brought the cream of the crap out. Apparently I’m not a real conservative because I argue against that which has been proven wrong but sounds good, and atheists aren’t really conservatives because of their choices of religion.
Okay, now tell us how your denomination of Christianity is more conservative than others. Let’s narrow it down rationally.

WTF, This guy is INCOHERENT!!!
I found this on Rush:
RUSH: Obama is in Scranton and said this.
OBAMA: Global warming is a serious problem. Uh, i-it’s not just some tree hugger, you know, uhhh, sprout eatin’ liberal thing. You know, the polar ice caps are melting. Temperatures are getting warmer in the oceans, and it could wreck (sic) havoc on our agriculture. It could increase insect-borne diseases.
RUSH: But it isn’t.
OBAMA: I mean, it could really m-mess things up, making hurricanes and tornadoes much more powerful and change w-weather patterns fundamentally. So we’ve got to take this seriously, and I’ve got the most aggressive plan to try to roll back, uhh, global warming.
RUSH: The bloom is off the rose here. This is amateur day in Scranton, Pennsylvania. “Well, global warming a serious problem, not just some, uhh, tree hugger, uhhh, sprout eatin’ liberal thing.” That’s exactly what it is. (laughing) “You know, polar ice caps are melting.” (laughing) I gotta hear this again. This guy is becoming laughable to me here.

Oh, gee, thanks. /s
You know, looking through that, I’m not sure I can find a single sentence there that is true. In particular, anyone can have an “absolute value,” ideals that they would die for.
Let me ask this: who holds a value more strongly, one who believes he will have eternal bliss by dying for said value, or one who expects only the end of his existence.

Modern Radical Islam is 3 parts totalitarian corporatism for every part religion. The trouble is not “Islam” the trouble is politicized Islamic Pan-Nationalism writ large. As long as we walk on eggshells terrified of “being a bigot” on calling the Wahabbi out we’ll spend 12,000,000,000 a month to solve a 15 cent problem.

It’s a definitions game (to Jews Christianity is not Abrahamic eather) – so i’ll let it be whatever you want. Thing is, Koran is a pure case of plagiarism, taking many of it’s pages from the Bible, to add to what pagan customes existed in ancient Arabia – and then claiming the Bible is a forged document.
There are some good parts in Islam, that eventually reformed the rabid and savage Arabic tribes into somewhat more solid society, but at the same time introduced undealt with parts of the same savageness into the entire world. But the main thing is – the Bible is autoritarian, and the religion dictates the rule of law, unlike the pagan religions which had religion locked up in shrines and only when in need did the leaders turn to pagan gods for guidance – and even that only as an advice.
Muhammad took the page from the Bible on that one – and our problem with him is not that a religion can be a all ecompassing system that has a say in politics, economy, law and culture, but with what the system itself constitutes of.

I”ve read many posts here that the blogs and MSM’s smearing of Governor Palin has boomeranged, increasing her popularity.
Why would anyone here want to spread false charges against Obama that could have the same effect?
Obama has provided plenty of real ammunition that should be used against him. And this includes the rambling, often disjointed, statements he makes when not using a teleprompter, that then have to be clarified or corrected, as in the posted video.
Thanks for posting the video & commentary, AP.
Loxodonta on September 7, 2008 at 4:54 PM
Door’s been opened. A Muslim will run for Pres sooner or later. We’ll have to defend him (no religious test) so how do we attack him in the political arena? All this “Religion of Peace” stuff will be stuffed down our throats. All these years after 9/11, and Islam is STILL being characterized as a religion.
It really has little to do with the video under discussion, though. I need to quit with this hijacking of this thread.
RushBaby on September 7, 2008 at 4:55 PM
I have no illusions about what Islam represents. But I don’t have any trouble laughing at Obama looking silly in a trap of his own making. He accuses Republicans of saying something about him and messes the whole thing up so he looks stupid. Doesn’t bother me.

I have the utmost respect for Christians and the values presented by Christianity. I have not, however, seen the “proof” that you suggest of the existence of God, only a interesting philosophical argument without conclusion.
I have absolute values that are substantively identical to Christian values. The difference is that I hold these values on a personal level and keep them because to do otherwise would be an insult to my fellow human beings and the sense of human right, dignity and decency that we should all share, regardless of perceived consequences of a speculative afterlife.
I am the precise opposite of an elitist. I have worked my entire life, from blue collar positions to the role of CEO, as a matter of service to others. When starting my businesses, all of my employee were paid better than me because my company could not exist without them. In harder times, I have given everything I own to others for the sole reason of avoiding any claim of taking what is not mine and in deference to the needs of others.
Now, with all due respect to your faith and the values we both claim to share, I suppose that insulting me, calling me an elitist who has no base values is an example of Christian values?
Also, for your information, I supported Sarah Palin as an ideal VP choice for about a month prior to her selection, I have opposed the liberal shift of the Republican party for years. All of which is evidenced by my posts here.
Simple question- who is more elitist and lacking concrete values? The person who say that I support all these ideals without religious attachments or the person who attacks someone, without substantive argument for doing so; while suggesting that the Atheist cannot be “truly” a conservative?
Damiano on September 7, 2008 at 4:56 PM
My point was that Christianity came right out of Judaism, so it’s connection is intimate and real, unlike islam’s successful attempt to merely steal the biblical line.
Yep.
I agree with the rest of your post (and the rest of the first one). I just have a pet peeve about the “3 Abrahamic religions” thing.

The “exit question” in the post says it all. Obama does take it a bit too far — he claims that McCain and the “upper echelons” of his campaign aren’t making the claims, but implies that the lower echelons are, and, hence, that it is a problem in the “Republican camp”.
Given that the Republicans have a “big tent” just as the Democrats do, we can expect that if Obama wants to hold all Republican feet to the fire when a nutroot blows off about his religion, he will allow Republicans to hold Democratic feet (including his) to the fire about a certain weird desire to see Track Palin killed while he’s deployed to Iraq

I would agree, but from events in Afghanistan to events in Pakistan, and Iraq I fear that Islamic people will always balk at taking the final step and approach the political franchise as a truly individual exercise to secure personal liberty.
They were going to kill a refugee who had converted to Xianity in germany while my wife was there and certain officers were terrified it would kill Allied force morale to be in a position of defending Karzai after that.

Here is another one I think Rush/ Hannity/ Laura/ etc. need to get on:
The McCain death pool. Let’s assume, contrary to 1200 pages of medical records presented to the contrary, that McCain only makes it to the median age of 75. That means Palin has 3 years in the Whitehouse with the best training wheels available on top of her already formidable record, accomplishments and experience.

I disagree. Islam will not react to individual empowerment the same way that Western cultures did. Islam is not Western and neither are any of its underlying cultures. Look to Turkey to see how vigilant one must remain against islam.
The fact is, by my reckoning, the arab/muslim/persian threats to the world start and stop at the control of the gulf oil fields. islam must be defanged. There is no other way. It cannot be modernized out of its problems, not in any clean way, at least.
