Quote of the day

“What horrified me was not so much the woman herself, though she is clearly entirely unfit to be vice-president or president. It was McCain’s cynical and sudden choice of her. Would you give power of attorney over your entire life to someone you had only met once, or possibly twice? Of course not. You would give the matter and the person very serious consideration. Yet McCain in effect is offering power of attorney over all the affairs of the United States and over all Americans, including me, to a woman he had barely met. I myself wouldn’t hire a house-sitter on such scant acquaintance…

I had thought that McCain was, for a politician, an honourable man. Certainly honour is one of his top selling points. But who can think so now? In choosing a woman he doesn’t know or understand, purely for electoral advantage, he reveals a dishonourable lust for office, a disrespect for women generally and a dishonourable indifference to the future of his country…

In short Palin is an ill-educated, inexperienced hypocrite.”

I find her claim to have been generally inclined to vote Republican previously to be dubious at best. But like Obama’s “considering” of the military you can’t really prove it. Anyways, who really cares. And she IS the American left. Because the left is now international.

Ohhh, somebody’s scared. What’s-his-name, Biden?, is pretty much invisible these days (a wise decision on the part of Ohblahblah’s campaign). I have a feeling he’s developing a health problem, and will have to withdraw from the race. Then there will “be no choice” but to nominate the tire-biter extraordinaire, but that won’t be cynical, nooh, that will be brave and bold.

fossten on September 7, 2008 at 10:40 PM

In short Palin is an ill-educated, inexperienced hypocrite. The Republicans are trying to sell her to the voters as something she isn’t, and McCain hardly cares what she is.

I am so sick of the people bashing her experience, talk about ignorant! Many have already started to break down Palin’s experience (who’s not running for Pres.) and Obama’s, and found Obama to be the one lacking.

And the Republicans don’t have to sell anything to anyone in regards to Sarah Palin. She’s pretty freaking amazing in many ways. Personally I find her an inspiration. I heard her in a debate today on C-SPAN in 2006 when she was running for Governor, I was impressed!

I wish these authors of all this criticism would be honest enough to state where they stand politically, I think all the Palin bashing would make more sense.

4shoes on September 7, 2008 at 10:40 PM

Yeah. You tell ‘em. I mean, what was McCain thinking! He must be senile and going bonkers! Who does 4-5 months of background investigations, interview and questionnaires by a professional, independent group of 25 people and checks out everything possible on someone’s personal and professional life! Really! Who does he think he is by selecting a Governor who has accomplish more on energy, budgetary and reform issues and has the highest approval rating of any politician in the country!

He should be more like Obama, who picks a person who said that Obama is unqualified to be President once, stood on his remark when questioned about it in a debate and stated that he would like to run with McCain. That 35 year Senate veteran is what Change is all about! He knows how to speak his mind… in the most belligerent manner possible! He’s one of two people who represent the second smallest state in the Union, for god sakes! Not some Governor from the largest state in the Union, which has been rated by and independent agency as the 2nd most challenging state to govern!

“Would you give power of attorney over your entire life to someone you had only met once, or possibly twice?”

That’s her freakin’ problem — she thinks fantasizes about the President having such power. She was hoping Obama would win so he could do just that.

He must have known that she compares feebly with previous vice-presidential candidates.

How’s she compare with a certain feeble Presidential candidate she’s up against?

Frozen Tex on September 7, 2008 at 10:52 PM

Obviously written by someone who doesn’t understand back channel chatter among conservatives. Palin had been touted for months prior to McCain’s picking of her.

I noticed one of the comments from the site…

“A Vice President must be someone the President can trust and work with”? Must he (or she)? Did FDR or JFK trust and work with their VPs? And didn’t Truman & LBJ prove to be exceptional Presidents when their time came? But then, of course, they were Democrats, liberals, former Senators & male.

Mike Wilkes, Brisbane, Australia

Truman was hated while president, it took his death and 3 decades’ distance from his last day in office for people to realize he wasn’t so bad after all.

Johnson…Oh my god, this guy from Oz obviously isn’t a student of history, LBJ had appeal from 1963 until he escalated Nam. Then he became the singularly most hated chief executive (well, until Nixon, at least) who never had the chance to rehabilitate his reputation. Even Nixon is now looked at with a kinder eye than LBJ.

To be blunt, this author, while technically an American Citizen, clearly is not an American. To be an American means embracing a certain culture, and this broad clearly doesn’t have it.

john1schn on September 7, 2008 at 10:52 PM

72 yr old

Oh, that’s McCain’s age? Coincidence. Heh.

jgapinoy on September 7, 2008 at 10:52 PM

Oh, wait…. I know why she hates McCain/Palin so much: McCain’s adopted daughter has a cleft palate and, of course, Palin has a Down’s baby, which Marrin also advocates should be aborted late term.

Blake on September 7, 2008 at 10:53 PM

I noticed she claims an ancestor fought in NC in the Revolutionary War, which begs the question:

“For whose side?”

john1schn on September 7, 2008 at 10:54 PM

Ms. Marrin,
We Americans did not fight for and win our independence

This thread needs a pick-me up.

McCain’s 10 point lead on USA Today/Gallup has also put him up 1 on the RCP average.

Damiano on September 7, 2008 at 11:00 PM

Good news. I spoke with my dad over the phone tonight and he has decided to vote McCain/Palin. He’d been somewhat entranced by O’s “speechifying” a few months ago, but tonight said, “I just can’t trust Obama.” He thought the RNC was very well done and liked both speeches by the candidates.

Yes! One down one to go! Mrs. Magoo is next. We agreed to decide after the debates (I’ve already decided).

I recommend this “one vote at a time” approach for those in your immediate circle of influence. If we all participate, it will add up quickly.

I think that McCain’s speech, while not smooth as silk, was sincere and is convincing a lot of people. The statement that he would fight for his country until he drew his last breath was very powerful.

Mr_Magoo on September 7, 2008 at 11:00 PM

As so often, we are left to wonder “who gives a crap what some leftist Brit dyke thinks about our politics and governance?” No one, I wager.

Maybe she didn’t get a chance to read my earlier post”

“You know………………….

Some people might want to check their facts about the experience and executive knowledge that Gov. Sarah Palin brings to the nominated office of the Vice President of the United States.

Among other “things”, as Governor, Sarah Palin, works with the Federal Government, and has working knowledge of the many Military bases in her state.

Not to mention Eielson Air Force Base, ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska, Fort Richardson, Alaska, and Fort Wainwright, Alaska, but also a little know post call Fort Greely.

These “day to day” responsibilities as Governor is something that she still deals with, even on the campaign trail.

These “day to day” responsibilities deal with our very real National Security on a very “day to day” basis, since Governor Palin also has to deal with her state being flanked by two foreign nations, Russia and Canada.

Add that to her ability to deal with oil companies, internal corruption, building a pipeline to take us one step closer to energy independence, raising a family, dealing with the media, and being the “spot on” choice for a Vice Presidential candidate……………… I think Mr. Obama looks quite a bit smaller.

Now, watch the Media, Goverenment Class, and Democrats squirm with fear.

………….. you can almost smell it”
