If only it didn't have Meryl Streep.

Just can't bring myself to support or want to see anything she does.

SKYFOX on September 8, 2008 at 1:08 PM

I have been and always will be a Larry man. Larry stepped up to the plate when Besser refused to get slapped in the face and took the extra abuse to keep things going.

I believe the story you tell about Moe though. Lawarence Harvy had a cannon roll on his foot as they were shooting a scene for "The Alamo" but kept in character -- he didn't even grimmace. As he walks away at the end of the scene you can see him limping slightly. "Buster" Keaton broke his neck filming a scene for "Sherlock, Jr" and kept going too (almost drowned in "Our Hospitality" as well). Just proves that actors were real men back in the day.

Just lie down, put a cold washcloth on your forehead and it will pass. God golly man, next you’ll be telling us that Besser was your favorite Stooge!

As a kid I laughed at Curley the most, but as an adult I appreciate Moe. He had the toughest job being mean(ish), abusive and funny at the same time, and letting the two clowns get the bulk of the laughs. He was a real trooper too. You remember the scene where, as a paperhanger, the precarious perch he's on kicks out from under him and he goes down hard. I understand he hurt himself seriously on that shot, but kept the scene going until the director called "cut". Don't know for sure if it's true, but I'd like to think it is.

Capt. Ed:

You are a real man to admit you liked an Abba movie.

Mr. Joe on September 7, 2008 at 6:46 PM

Yeah a real beta. :P

I'll wait for them to make a movie based off of the song of Aerosmith.

- The Cat

P.S. I would have said the Ramones, but they did that.

I have no interest in the musical/movie, but ABBA rulez. I chucked out most of my vinyl but hung on to the incomparable K-Tel release The Magic of ABBA.

Ed, my daughter said she wanted to see that movie. I could think of no painless way to remove my own nads, so I told her to go and enjoy herself. Then I put my copy of Rambo (latest one) in the DVD player.

Liked it ok.
Only really went for Amanda Seyfried. She's probably a raving leftist too, but please--don't tell me just yet.

I’m pretty sure the Bard of Avon didn’t have his actors singing “SOS” and “Dancing Queen”, and probably avoided penis jokes.

This is, by far, teh gheyest thing I have ever read on HotAir.com...

One possibility to explain this is that the average age of HotAir.com commenters/readers is 54 and this can be attributed to a generational gap in tastes. Hey, it could be that 30 years from now I'll be online defending the new holographic musical comedy based on the music of Alice In Chains starring Dakota Fanning.

But with any luck, 30 years from now when I'm actually in my mid-50s I'll still have enough sense to realize an Alice In Chains musical comedy is completely gh-e-a-a-a-a-a-ay.

the heat Pierce Brosnan takes for his singing is a bit unfair. He's not trained in singing and it becomes rather clear if you know what to listen for. His problem is simply that he's not trained to sustain notes. Most of the reviews I've read note that, but don't understand why.

Listen to the toast sing he sings after the wedding, he has no problem. this song which was written for him does not have the long sustained lines.

Sorry, Ed, but I had to comment. Some of these comments made me laugh out loud several times. Take it from me, folks, Ed is not only the bravest but I know he was also singing the lyrics along with the cast, maybe not outloud, but he was there in spirit. I should know, he sat on the other side of our wives and I could see his lips moving often. I must admit I was singing them too. Guilty pleasure or not, those songs were part of our youth and like other songs from our past, hold meaning and memories beyond our ego's. It was a very fun movie to watch and you could just see by the energy on the screen, it must have been a lot of fun to be a part of the movie crew. I don't always agree with Ed's choice of movies (ask him about that awful Arkin flick that I still hold against him after almost 30 years) but I recommend this one, even if it's just for the fun of it.

A few moments veer dangerously close to camp...

Actually, a number of moments leave the paved portion of the highway, crash through the guardrail, and flatten said 'camp' before lurching back onto the road and continuing on as if nothing untoward had happened. My wife made me go.

Chick Flick, redefined.

The play was good. I'll wait until the movie's on cable to see it.

And real men never admit to liking ABBA, Ed.

I'm an ABBA fan and I loved this movie. You just can't NOT be happy leaving the theater after watching it. The only flaw is Brosnan. There ought to be a law banning him from singing again on camera EVER! But Firth's number was really good.

A couple of Saturday's ago my 8th grade daughter said her teacher wanted their class to see a movie that was playing at the local discount theater ($3 for older movies...) So we also took my 9 year old and the little girl next door...

I was SHOCKED when it started out with a daughter discussing her MOTHER'S SEX LIFE! And I was with children!

Soon I was thinking are all these ABBA songs? Duh. I missed the ads... what can I say. And then the nostalgia took over and I had a good time. Hopefully the full impact of the morals went over the kid's heads and they just heard pretty music.

Complex is not a word I would use. Although my husband and I did discuss the Shakespear angle and some greek plays that had similar patterns... groups of 3 friends etc...gayness...

(But then again we similarly disected the artistry of Speed Racer a while back. Anime you know?)

It was HILARIOUS and smutty, also the time line definetly did not work... twenty years ago was 1988 not 1968. And the girl should have gone ahead and gotten married.

Re: Shakespeare...

I'd be surprised if you could find one of his comedies that's completely free of low sexual humor. The man knew how to please his audience.

Re: Mama Mia...

You should see it live, if you get the chance.

I thought it was fun, but Tony Head (Giles from Buffy) should have played Pierce Brosnan's part. The first time he started singing, I couldn't help it -- I gasped. And then I shook with silent giggles every time he sang.

I have to agree with Debbie's comment above. There wasn't a single frame of this movie that could be considered complex. Were you drunk when you saw it Ed?
