Just listen to the crowd. I’ve honestly never seen anything like this for a conservative politician before.
Update: Maverick by four, says Zogby. “Clearly, Palin is helping the McCain ticket.”
Update: A prescient quote from last year tops Newsweek’s new profile of her: “When you talk about the Republican Party needing appealing candidates, darn right they do!… The Democrats, whether you like them or not … there is some dynamic there, and it’s something that the Republicans I think have lacked for some time.”
Update: It was like this yesterday in Michigan too, apparently. The Detroit News estimates a crowd of 10,000.

Look at the way she grins when she promises to go to Washington and “shake things up.” She’s a happy warrior. That’s got to resonate.

We’ve been waiting for a long time. It is about time! Thank God for Palin.
jencab on September 6, 2008 at 9:38 PM
I love the look on McCain’s face. Never seen him smile so much or stand up so straight and tall. He knows he’s got a conservative phenom on his hands and he has to be proud of his choice for Veep. Palin could very well be the deciding factor in sweeping him into the White House. And after that: Palin 2012/2016!
Jockolantern on September 6, 2008 at 9:39 PM
I just watched a stream of them in New Mexico. Also awesome. It’s a new day for conservatives. This goes beyond just this election. Win or lose we have been reinvigorated and inspired.

Has it sunk in yet that we’re looking at America’s first female president?

P.S. I said many years ago that for America to have a woman as president, she’d have to be a Margaret Thatcher. She just may be.

Obama mania is dead, ran it’s course and ran out of gas 2-miles before the finish line.
Palin mania has just begun, with fresh legs and plenty enough fuel to last for several years. Palin mania has a plan, has solutions, and is much more than “just words, just speeches.”
The country was indeed smarter than you elite Liberals gave us credit for; huh Obama!

The content of Palin’s speech here repeats large sections of her VP acceptance speech.
The press will be annoyed, but until the McCain/Palin campaign sees some advantage in Palin talking with the press, there is no point in giving them the Number 1 “get” for an interview.

I wanted to go to this rally so bad but the tickets were sold out.
Senator McCain sure is a good sport and seems non-threatened by our love affair with his VP. I admire and appreciate his confidence, and I am especially thankful that he has given conservatives someone to root for.

I moved to Texas from Canada in 1977. I haven’t been this excited about an election since Reagan and perhaps this one is better.
The Libtards can’t paste the ‘GOP is a party of rich old white guys’ label on us any longer.
They are scared sh*tless.
txdoc on September 6, 2008 at 10:00 PM
And THE ONE tonight at Bon Jovi’s concert for him said that he was not staying in hotels and eating airline food just to come in second and that they had better get out there and win this election FOR him. Or so it went something like that as reported. Not that he was going to do anything, but THEY had to get out there and work for a win while the poor thing has to fly all over this beautiful country in his private plane and stay in a Motel 8? Somehow I doubt THE COMMUNITY ORGANIZER stays in anything remotely like the Holiday Inn or La Quinta! What a schmuck compared to our side! McCain/Palin are asking us to work WITH them. Big diff!
Yep, AP must not have been around to see the Gipper rally us to a fevah! No, she is not Reagan, but as Michael Reagan says she might be the reincarnation! Bite em Sarahcuda! And you go McCain! I am actually going to vote for you in November!

Its typical for politicans to repeat speaches that is what makes following them around boring.
Should try listening to an hour of Biden speeches I swear I almost make myself bald from pulling hair out just to catch him saying something stupid.

SouthernGent on September 6, 2008 at 10:07 PM
The only thing to worry about with Biden is that he can sound smart to people who don’t know the material themselves and haven’t heard him much before. He’s really just arrogant but not everybody sees that right away. And there will only be 1 debate. With Gwen Ifill (I have no idea if that’s how you spell her name) moderating. She could not be more in the tank for Obama.
D0WNT0WN on September 6, 2008 at 10:07 PM
This was further down in the Zogby poll page:
“- another indication that likely voters paid attention to the GOP convention this week, which won the highest television viewership numbers ever earned by an American political convention.”
It’s the first I’ve heard that the Republican convention got more viewers than the Democrat’s.
Jason on September 6, 2008 at 10:07 PM
Not to crap in your corn flakes (OK, maybe so) and I’m stoked about Palin too, but it’s no surprise the crowd in
Colorado SpringsStepford reacts like this. In Colorado “The Springs” is to conservatism as Boulder is toliberalismwhacked out, off the wall, radical “progressivism”.Hey, I like this strikeout feature.

fogw on September 6, 2008 at 10:09 PM
Awesome! Completely Awesome! But…
I know it is fresh off the convention, but she needs more talking points. This speech was pretty much recycled from the convention.
It does feel nice to see the American ppl standing behind conservatism. The press has gone beyond the point liberal bias and has jumped into the pool of endorsers if you ask me. The fact that I saw that story today about protesters ridiculing the press made me smile then barrel over with laughter!
I now think we have a true chance of not only winning, but by a clear margin. The citizens of this great land are more conservative than they are progressive and now they actually have a team to cheer about!
lsutiger on September 6, 2008 at 10:10 PM
Governor Palin has got her stump speech nailed. Perfect pitch. Hardly looking at her notes. When she talked about Senator McCain fighting on behalf of average Americans, she used a gesture of her hands to effectively identify herself with the crowd and as one of us.
As Governor Palin does well on the stump, she affirms Senator McCain’s judgment and leadership, invigorating his image and the campaign. This looks like a very formidable team.
Loxodonta on September 6, 2008 at 10:10 PM
Unless I miss my guess they are only arranging things a week or so in advance. Obama had months to get the message out about Denver.
William Amos on September 6, 2008 at 10:10 PM
Uh, look at the top of drudge.
The republican convention was the most viewed convention – ever.
lorien1973 on September 6, 2008 at 10:10 PM
McCain would not have gotten this crowd a month ago. Or 2 weeks ago. The base is jazzed.
lorien1973 on September 6, 2008 at 10:11 PM
Palin-esque!
Strong, smart and sublime.
More energy than the entire Democratic Party.
profitsbeard on September 6, 2008 at 10:12 PM
Best part of her speech: When she took Obama’s ‘no one imagined the surge could work’ statement and turned it upside-down. Very shrewd.
King of Fools on September 6, 2008 at 10:12 PM
I hope she changes her speech up soon.
p0s3r on September 6, 2008 at 10:12 PM
I’d like to hear less rehashing of the convention speech, but still…the screams are very gratifying.
It gives me hope!
Bob's Kid on September 6, 2008 at 10:12 PM
Her delivery is improving very rapidly. During her first road speech she used her fingers to mark her spot on the speech. She had her head down most of the time and read the speech word for word. I was a bit worried but not after this speech. Today she barely glanced at her notes, ad-libbed some, and had her head held high the whole time. Go Sarahcuda!
rigdown on September 6, 2008 at 10:14 PM
The best way to change her speeches is to give ones based on issues. I just read tonight that all the intelligence aggencies just breifed both obama and mccain on National security. That would give them some info to go over.
William Amos on September 6, 2008 at 10:14 PM
Our National Anthem lauds “the rockets’ red glare”, but it follows then with “the bombs bursting in air”. Gov. Palin’s meteoric rise is astonishing; I fear the thought that she could fall just as quickly. I pray not, but I surely hope that Sen. McCain and his team (yes – including Gov. Palin) can parcel out her presence and stardom so that she does not ‘burn out’ before November.
I guess I’m just a nervous old fart.

My VP debate fantasy:
Charles Gibson: Okay, my next question is for Mrs. Palin. You said that-
SP: Excuse me, Chucky, that’s Governor Palin.
CG: Oh, ah, er, yes, well, Governor Palin…
fossten on September 6, 2008 at 10:14 PM
I haven’t seen an Obama commercial here in NC in weeks. I heard he’s not going back to Virginia either, but that is purely anecdotal.
SouthernGent on September 6, 2008 at 10:15 PM
A slightly off topic question. Even with the popularity of Governor Palin, do the Republicans have the ground game this year. I am talking about registering voters, giving them rides election day, etc. etc. I heard Kondracke say on Fox today that the Dims have the advantage in that regard this election.
It has been bothering me ever since I heard it. I am so pumped up to finally have a real person running for high office, it would be a real downer to lose it because of a lack of organization.
kam582 on September 6, 2008 at 10:15 PM
LMAO
She’s a natural. Don’t get too excited about the crowd – Colorado Springs is one of the most conservative towns in America (home of Focus on the Family, as well as the Air Force Academy). But the visuals are still great.
rockmom on September 6, 2008 at 10:15 PM
One thing is for certain the smear campaign doesnt seem to be hitting conservatives in fact its backfiring I see that many are fired up.
The right has seen 8 years of lefties smears and whining and this is first chance we get to hit them back for their nonsense.
William Amos on September 6, 2008 at 10:17 PM
Nah, don’t worry about it. Remember, in campaigns, talking points need to be repeated, while always adding something new and cycling out something old. Repetition is the key to driving your message home.
Besides, lots of people want to hear their issues reinforced.
fossten on September 6, 2008 at 10:17 PM
John McCain and Sarah Palin will host a “McCain Street USA” rally this Tuesday, September 9th outside The Golden Lamb, 27 South Broadway, Lebanon, Ohio. Doors will open at 7:00 am. Go to JohnMcCain.com to RSVP for the indoor part. Will be an outside meet and greet afterwards.
Other venues are to be announced shortly.

ROTFL! Funny! Translation for the slow –
McCain — has what it takes

Obama — doesn’t have what it takes
Biden — doesn’t have what it takes
I love her wry sense of humor.

I read that Obama is making the big push here in ohio. He is refocusing everything on winning this state.
State polls I have seen McCain is within Shooting distance (3 to 5 %) in PA and Michigan. IF McCain flips either of those he can afford to lose Ohio but I still hope he can win here.

I’m still riding pretty high on her success too. Rockhead is right though, Colorado Springs is Ft. Carson, Butts AAF so they run a “little” more Conservative. Having just been there though and Eagle, I did see a lot of “Obama Sucks” on car windows even before the Dem Convention.
Worries..The left nutroots sound absolutely un-freaking-hinged. Worde tahn I ever have. I’m in Asheville NC this week and caught part of Randy (HIC) Rhoades sp? Her commentary absolutely dehumanizes Sen McCain and especially Gov Palin. Her callers were rabid. I worry for her well-being.

The “stump speech” has a tradition going back to the first decades of this Nation. It pretty much follows a set format for a while, then changes up a bit. It’s early yet. Only 3 days since Palin’s acceptance speech and two since McCain’s. [Hard to believe, isn't it?] Patience, young grasshopper, patience. :-)
coldwarrior on September 6, 2008 at 10:21 PM
I wonder if Dan Fowler {or whatever his name is} still thinks that Palin is Dan Quayle on steroids. Or that God is on the side of the Democrats because he sent a hurricane to screw with the Republican Convention.
Somehow I doubt it.
Terrye on September 6, 2008 at 10:22 PM
I agree with you 100%. And I can tell you that in the hours before the VP announcement my feelings about a Pawlenty or Romney pick were — meh.
I was gonna vote for JMac regardless of who he picked. Before Palin was selected it was because the disaster that would be a Obama presidency. Now I’m more excited that I’ll get to cast a vote for her than I am that I’ll cast a vote for McCain.
Maybe I’m just wearing my cranky pants today. Or maybe my “glass half empty” attitude makes me search for the downside.
