"None of this is meant to imply that Hillary Clinton’s generation is finished...."

You'll have to pry our hands off the steering wheel first. Hillary Clinton doesn't represent my generation any more than Andrew Sullivan represents yours. After long, long years of bizarrely being expected to applaud the advancement of women I despise, like Clinton and Pelosi, now at last, I can applaud a woman I actually respect. I'm a pro-choice, socially liberal, Republican from the Republican wing of the party, and I'm crazy about Sarah. I am not the only one among my generational peers who finds her not just admirable, but liberating.

Another thought…. though it’s been running though this blog. One of the themes for Hillary’s loss has been “we won’t elect a woman”. What does Sarah Palin’s march through the country say?

That women, and quite possibly after the sting of Barry cools african-americans may want to reanalyze the wisdom of block voting?

The David Warren piece I previously linked in the headlines sections also belongs here. It also has very interesting comparisons to Thatcher’s early rise, but for co-quote of the day, I’d recommending his opening:

No apology is needed for dwelling on the person of Sarah Palin. Her nomination as the Republicans’ vice-presidential candidate, and then her extraordinary speech to their national convention, was easily the most important world event of a week in which there was significant breaking news from Georgia, North Korea, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Thailand, and elsewhere.

And worth repeating again. Thanks, CK. I had never read anything by David Warren. That piece is terrific!

OK, so what's happened to Robert Spencer's "Blogging the Qu'ran" series over here every week? I'm accustomed to reading it here around this time of day every Sunday, but haven't seen one posted the past couple of weeks.

I know I can read it Jihad Watch, just wondering what's up.

The solution to maintaining conservatives in office isn't hard.... stick to conservative principles.

In my world view, the worst crimes are first, crimes against children. Second on that list are crooked politicians. Put them in jail doing hard time. No 5 year sentences and out in 18 months. 10 years minimum time served.

Second, "sell the jet on eBay". In other words, if a government program is not needed, eliminate it. Eliminate earmarking as a practice that is even permitted. Also get the line item veto passed.

Push to get a number of the silly "rules" in the house and the senate eliminated. These are nothing more than procedures invented to give power to a smaller group than the actual majority. Set a limit on how long anything (or anyone) can remain in committee before it must come out for an actual vote.

Finally, lobbyists. Any connection between a member of congress and a lobbying effort (family member, employer of family member, whatever) should be, on it's face, enough evidence to open a criminal investigation. How does anyone with a net worth of less than a million get elected to a job that pays $180K and then end up with a net worth of millions and millions within a couple of years? Close all of these channels for "bribing" congress. Require complete financial disclosure as a prerequisite for running for office. Part of this requirement is that as long as someone is in office, their finances are an open book.

Over the years, our representative democracy has become both not very representative and not very democratic.

I hope my home state wises up about Godhilla now, and doesn't buy that crap she'll spread about "Not running for President" the next time she runs for another term in the Senate. We need our senators in the Senate working for our interests, not on the road working for their next job.

McCain up by 4 in liberal Zogby poll. This election is killing me boys. He can blow the Palin advantage with a dismal debate performance. If he wins ill look back and enjoy the looks on the Libs' faces when Sarah rode into town and Messiah was galled.

Every sentient being (sorry Democrats, that doesn't include you anymore) feels the hand of destiny over this pick of Palin as VP/future president. It's much more than the political campaign of the moment, and I think everyone feels that in their bones. We owe a big one to McCain for this.

Seven Percent Solution on September 7, 2008 at 1:09 AM

It's been exposed, long since. This will not end until we pry the power from their cold, dead fingers.

(No, this is not a call to violent revolution -- unless they begin removing our liberty. Cool your jets.)
