Quotes of the day

“The simple fact of her being a pro-life married mother of five with a thriving political career was–before anything else about her was known–enough for the left and its outliers to target her for destruction. She could not be allowed to contradict symbolically one of the central narratives of the left. How galling it will be to Sarah Palin’s many new enemies if she survives this assault and prevails. If she does, her success may be an important moment in the struggle to shape not just America’s politics but its culture.”
*
“In the end, though, it is not just Palin’s large family and important job which have made her the topic of the day at every school pick-up queue in America. It is also the fact that she breaks the Hillary Clinton mould, not only in personality and lifestyle but in ideology as well. By this, I don’t mean merely that she’s a conservative, that she’s an evangelical Christian, or that she opposes abortion.
More interesting are the ways in which she shatters all of the stereotypes altogether: Left/Right, Democrat/Republican, liberal/conservative…
None of this is meant to imply that Hillary Clinton’s generation is finished, let alone Hillary herself: she may well be back in the national game, in 2012, 2016, or later. But the appointment of Palin does bring the Hillary Era to an end – she isn’t the archetypal Female American Politician anymore, she’s just one of many.”

What was the course at the Naval Academy that McCain took where he learned to do something like this?
If this works out, it’s one of the most brilliant selections in the modern history of the American presidency.

I think it is kind of awesome that after 16 years of Baby Boomer presidents who both ended up as national laughingstocks, the next President is going to be either a post-Boomer or a pre-Boomer with a post-Boomer VP. Seems to me America is done with this self-absorbed, whiny, overrated generation. Bill and Hillary are both the poster children for it. I don’t see America turning back to Hillary, no matter who wins this election.

You think? Palin did NOT ride on her husband’s coattail for all her accomplishments. “Two for the price of one” my foot, she’s claimed credits to all BillyJ’s two terms.
Hillary, as the smartest woman on earth, can cling to her bitterness now. Maybe we’ll finally see the end of both Clintons.

In 2012, the Clinton administration advisers will have been out of power for 12 years. Some of them abandoned Hillary for Obama rather early. Others have moved on to more lucrative jobs.
Experience in 2012 will, as a minimum, have Palin as the VP for 4 years. Hillary will always have the Clinton health care disaster and faked claims that someone shot at her.
After 2012, it gets even worse for Hillary’s prospects.

sven10077 on September 6, 2008 at 10:42 PM
It’s tough to see Hillary coming back to the Presidential race ever. This was her chance.
If Obama wins, Hillary will have to wait until at least 2016 to run; either Obama will run again, or his term will be so bad that no (other) sensible Democrat will run in 2012. Odds of a Republican winning in 2020 seem good, as an Obama presidency looks to be as bleak as Carter’s.
If McCain wins, then Palin seems a likely candidate in 2012 or 2016. This pushes Hillary out to 2020.
Hillary will be how old in 2020?
Then there’s still the question of “archetypal Female American Politician”.
I suppose that Hillary’s behavior over the next 60 days will tell if she’s figured these truths out or not.

And while Sarah Palin’s moose kills show evidence of blunt force trauma, to take down teh hilbebeast, Sarah Palin had to rely on her Barrett 50 caliber rifle at 1.2 miles to .3 miles, so long was the beginning of the charge until the beast finally hit the ground.
Took seven 5 round magazines to do it, but still, impressive.
And of course, she didn’t use any scope – just the iron sights.

Dale in Atlanta on September 6, 2008 at 9:51 PM
We had the “Greatest Generation”; then we the “Leastest Generation”; ironically, their very children; who sought to the utmost, to undue the gains their parents bequeathed them: struggled thru the Great Depression to survive, and fought WWII to ensure the very survival of the country.
The “Leastest Generation”; the Hillary & Bill Clinton’s, the John Kerry’s, the Joe Biden’s, the Ward Churchill’s and their children, the Barack HUSSEIN Obama’s (PBUH), the Sean Penn’s, the Al Franken’s, are Anti-American to their core, and have sought to overturn anything and everything that the “Greatest Generation” sacrificed for; they’ve sought at every turn, to literally tear down and destroy America and its institutions and history.
They are the hippies of the 60’s and their children, and hopefully, hopefully, Sarah Palin will demonstrate that the Anti-American/Pro-Jihadi Wellsley-going, snobbish, elitist, leftist, unshaven armpit and leg, Hollywood Liberal Lesbian crowd is done for ever, spent, gone, finished; a black stain not only on American history, but a shame and embarrassment to their parents legacy…

If Hillary is half as smart as some people say she is, she would have defeated Obama in the primaries. This is a man with zero experience and who finds it too tough to vote yes or vote no in his state senate. A man with no balls.
Birdseye on September 6, 2008 at 10:50 PM
Agree. Hillary was too old and frumpy to make a successful run this time, let alone in the future. However she will hang onto her Senate seat for as long as she can, but we won’t see anymore presidential runs from Hillary. Who would back her? She didn’t even get the nomination.

If what I see in politics is any example of the old guard of the feminist movement I say good ridance. It always seemed to me that the feminists not only want equality to men but sort of paybacks as well, much like the civil rights movement. These so called PUMA’s need to be quarantined so as not to infect the good breeding stock of Republican women. tee hee

Hillary probably knows she’s done as a Presidential candidate. If she were a Republican, it would be “her turn” next time, but Democrats never nominate the person whose turn it is. They adore the new face and they are always looking for the next JFK. Her best shot was the VP nomination this time. In retrospect, she should have dropped out of the race before the Texas and Ohio primaries, before she ran up all the debt. Obama would have had to take her and this election would be over. But she could not admit defeat to a guy who had branded her and her husband racists.

Sarah Palin brings the Hillary Clinton era to an end.
Anne Applebam,op-ed.
————————————————————
But its true that her personal style-frequently chilly,dete-rminedly frumpy,visible calculating,pointedly humourless-did
come to seem like a kind of norm.
That’s why when she lost the Democratic nomination,it wasn’t
hard for some to see it as a defeat for all women. If Hillary
couldn’t make it in national politics, her dissappointed sup-
porters declared no women could.
As anybody who has been watching the news for the past week
will already know that statement turned out to be dead wrong
As it turns out, there are numerous ways for women to be pol-
itically powerful in America, and they don’t all involve wea-
ring shapeless trouser suits and looking frosty:

Mr_Magoo on September 6, 2008 at 11:19 PM
Thank you for your service to America.
My comment was aimed at politicians of this generation. They seem to all be full of psychodrama and a sense of entitlement. Shallow and self-centered, seeking office for personal glory and not for service. And I include the current president in that category.
I think that is why Americans are going to find the “new” John McCain and Sarah Palin so appealing. Their language is telling people “we are running to serve you, not ourselves.” McCain’s whole life has been one of service. (I used to think he was a grandstander, but now I think he really is a maverick trying to do what he thinks is best for the country.) Contrast with “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”
rockmom on September 6, 2008 at 11:19 PM
Yes rockmom, she may well have worn out her welcome. But Obama will go the way of Gore and Kerry. Once they’re exposed for the fraud they are, they just fade away. Clinton’s are an exception.

I have friends and family from all socio economic groups who know you are a real American woman, wife and mother, and love you for it. One very very important difference between Sarah and Hillary.
Sarah rose because of her own merits.
Hillary had to ride Bill’s coat tails.
But without all the women showing competence in politics since the 1960s there would be no Sarah today.
And she gave credit to Geraldine and Hillary very appropriately. Remembering whose shoulders you stand on is a very important character trait.

I thought I was the only one who thought like that. I’ll be damned cause I have worked so hard all my life to show simple gratitude for all we have here in the USA. I say we because all my countryman have the chance to enjoy the fruits from the struggles of the Greatest Generation. The separation of ethnicities and gender is no longer a factor in determining ones entering ‘the middle class’ or beyond. The Dems are the people who drive the wedges between the races and genders. The scocioeconomic gaps no longer exist for the same reasons. When will they give it a break and pat themselves on thew back for a job well done.OK we get it. We have paid and continue to pay the price for the mistakes of our fathers. When do we get to unify and enjoy each others accomplishments. There is no peace. They want paybacks plain and simple they want to be the ruling class.
NEWS FLASH It aint gonna happen.
The spoiled bastards along with the egomaniacs who protested during the sixties many of who were led astray by the commie pricks who infested out Universities (Berkley) are to blame for the unraveling of the social fabric of our ncountry. Hillary Rodam being one of the biggest offenders.
My mother went through the battle of Brittan and being born there experienced the rationing of all things especially food during WWII. Not to mention all the air raids from the Germans. She told stories of Spitfires and Messerschmidts having dog fights over the fields where she lived. This woman was just a citizen and like millions of other Brits they were of the ‘Stiff upper lip’ mentality. You just did not complain.
These weak minded weak kneed pansey complaint artists of this generation espescially the media types need a great depression or bombs being dropped on thier neighborhoods to be slapped into reality.I have no time for the lightwieght punk wanna-be tough talker types who run this Country down every day on national TV. sven10077 on September 7, 2008 at 12:14 AM
I have a real problem with that analogy.
You don’t have to be a evangelical Christian to appose abortion. They may be the majority, but anti-abortion is hardly mutually exclusive to just Christians. Anyone else with good morals and common sense knows the difference between the murder of life, born or unborn.
However, the so call “Right to Choose” crowd would have you believe otherwise. They would have you believe the value of life only begins with a paddle on the butt and cry of the infants first breath. Yet, we have people adopting children from China and other countries. Both the super elites and the everyday folks. Some wait years to adopt. While the rights of the unborn never get the chance to meet the people that would be their adopted to be parents in this country.
How far will the “Right to Choose” crowd go if abortions are forbidden? I suspect honor killings would not be far behind and called a “Right to Choose”.
Kini on September 7, 2008 at 12:16 AM
Similar story, but my Mom , now 82, was raised in a small village in southern Germany during “Herr Hitlers” empire.
