Not quite sure you understand my position, I’m not in favor of increasing unemployment, or going to a controlled economy to lower gas prices. Just stating that market forces dictate for the most part oil prices. One thing that can lower gas prices in the near future is a stronger dollar. Under the Bush administration the federal debt has increased by 2/3, while the value of the dollar dropped 41% against the Euro. A return to fiscal restraint by the federal government would do wonders for the dollar.

I think that nuclear power along with the continual development of alternative energy resources combined with investment in more gas efficient cars is the answer to our energy crisis. I just don’t think that the minimal decrease in prices at the pump is worth the catastrophic economic price coastal states would pay if their was an accident. Its a position that the republican Governor of the state of California and republican senator from Florida share. Now I do support drilling that would present a minimal envriomental risk, but I think its a stop-gap measure that is not a long term solution.

Rasmussen is out today (and keep in mind its a rollig 3 day so includes the last two days)

Its a dead even tie as of now.

I really don’t understand why conservatives think that talking about drilling actually effects oil prices at the pump. The reason gas prices are going down is due to fears of decrease oil consumption due to unemployment, not because McCain keeps talking about drilling. Furthermore the benefits of drilling, according to the energy information administration, wouldn’t be seen till 2017. The US needs about 21 million barrels of oil today, the estimate for additional domestic production by drilling is 250,000. Which would help lower prices about 20 cents but would not stop our dependence on foreign oil. Drilling for oil is not the answer for short term relief at the pump, nor long term energy independence.

Times were so good we had to hide our prosperity under codenames like ’stagflation’, unemployment was at 74% in 1981. Guess that was why fuel was so cheap back then and the lines were so long to get it eh? Anyway the last thing the nation needs is the price and wage rates set by governmental fiat from the White House or Capitol Hill.

I’ll stick with the free market thanks.

Also even if it is “only 250,000 BPD” that is a better shot into the economy than Barry’s unicorn farts he is counting on as the perfect energy source.

Oil fell something like 9 dollars the day the President lifted the executive ban on offshore drilling. It’s a futures market, just like any other futures market. If the people in it think there’s going to be more oil in the future the price drops.

Also, there are capped wells off the coast of California. There’s oil there, the wells are dug, they just can’t be accessed because of environmental and legislative restrictions. Those wells could have oil coming into the market in as little as 8 months.

What’s your alterative for getting oil and gas prices lower, if not drilling? Obama’s plan calls for ‘alternative souces of energy’ to get us off of 20 million barrels of oil a day. Seems a bit too hopey, doesn’t it?

Good snag there! But it’s not a matter of a mental block. Most likely this article in some form was written at the time of Hussein’s “Sermon on the Mount Olympus,” but (apparently) not published. At the risk of being too blunt in my bias accusation, it is entirely possible they published that in an intentional effort to remind people of The One’s speech–encourage their side and deflate the opposition.

Look what the oil prices have done, just over the past two weeks. They’ve dropped. Just by talking about drilling, the possibility of voting in pro-drill canditates, they dropped!
All in the wake of a FEW hurricanes coming in to LA, etc.
Now, Imagine what could happen, if we quit talking about drilling….
And do it?
