Top Obama supporter to Ingraham: Shouldn’t Palin be home taking care of her kids? Update: Media annoyed at GOP criticism

Fair to call him a “top” supporter? Given the fact that he’s a member of The One’s national finance committee and advertises that fact in his HuffPo bio, I’m going with “yes.” His M.O. reminds me of Greenwald trying to rewrite the definition of “chickenhawk” so that it applies to the right but not the left: Start with the smear you want to use, then refine the parameters just enough to protect your own side from the tu quoque. In this case it means replacing the argument that mom should be home with the family with the more highly nuanced argument that any politician of either sex should be home when their family’s in crisis. Bristol’s pregnant and baby Trig has Down’s syndrome and, gosh, don’t you think a responsible mother gender-neutral parent would consider that before doing something as rash as running for high office? To which I reply: Am I hallucinating or isn’t there a guy on the other ticket who had a much worse family crisis than this, who in fact has been praised to the heavens for not quitting his job and instead making a heroic effort to manage both kids and career through hard times? Did I dream that? I could have sworn I heard something about it recently.
All part of the effort to freak-ify her, of course. She’s a bad mom with a chillbilly family better suited to Springer than to network election coverage. That’s why the AP’s including cute little details about school mascots in their stories of how many colleges she attended. And why “respectable” journals of left-wing thought are soliciting pieces from advice columnists. Exit question: Does the left really want to play a game of “children ruined by absentee political parents”? Because I know just the place to start.
Update: Don’t you mind what those conservatives are saying about the press, now. The coverage is fair because, well, we say it is:
After several primetime speakers at this week’s Republican National Convention unleashed a barrage of attacks on the news media for their coverage of vice-presidential nominee Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, network news executives defended their coverage and dismissed the charges as a stale political strategy meant to distract viewers from legitimate election issues.
“It’s a time-honored marketing ploy and, every time they bash the media, it means they’re not talking about a vision or a plan,” CNN president Jon Klein said. “But the best antidote to cynical marketing is solid reporting.”…
“America has been presented with a total unknown who might be a heartbeat away from the presidency,” Klein said of Palin, “and Americans have every right to expect as much information as possible about this person so that they can make an informed choice. Certainly our critics are in favor of Americans making an informed choice, aren’t they?”
What Klein means by “informed choice,” of course, is having his reporters recycle Daily Kos rumors about whether Trig is really Palin’s child and wonder aloud whether the mother of a Down’s baby should really be doing something as selfish as running for vice president.
These morons understand that the public agrees with McCain’s campaign about this, yes?

Do you think they actually coordinate with the Dems? They are so seriously out of touch with their audience it is amazing.

I think Drudge has the rating breakdown (by viewers) but basically CNN (the supposed leader in news) got between two third to half of the other networks.
People dont watch CNN for anything other than news…and they arent watching much anymore, so I think that answers your question about being out of touch with thier audience.
Sad commentary on what was once a fresh and innovative leader in world news and analyses. Between jokers like Jack Gaufferty or whatever his name is, they are basically background noise these days.

Also, in regards to coordinating with the Dems. Well, there is plenty of evidence from political contribution databases, etc that suggest that a massive proportion of the media is Democratic. So, maybe not directly, but there is definately unofficial coordination between the two, even if its only when staffers and journalists meet after work for a beer.

I always think it is both funny odd and funny ha ha when Rush plays clips of talking heads and they are using the exact same worlds. Then they turn around and complain of Bush Talking Points. The White House apparently not allowed to have press releases.

The cockles of my heart glow with warmth. I picture the look on Barry’s face after he’s realized that an old dude totally schooled him with a masterful political move that not only solidified his base, it is stealing away women voters. The coup de grace, the press (his biggest supporter) racing towards self destruction in trying to demonize Palin is dragging down his canidacy as well. There is a God and he’s a Republican…

I was thinking recently that I have gotten an almost Pavlovian reaction to the words Global Warming or Green. No, not drooling! I have decided that ultimately American ingenuity will come up with some PREMO ideas. Thereby making the biggest scam to be played on the world to ultimately be a win/win situation. And I hope that all the creative folks are conservatives and want to keep as much of the money they earn.

It’s probably been mentioned already but the real problem that interview makes very clear is that the Palin family, and the boyfrends fathers family, do not see the fact that Bristol is pregnant as a tragedy. They see it as a blessing. There is no reason for either Sarah or Todd Palin to change anything in their daily lives at all except to welcome a new baby to the family.
Democrats obviously think the same way I do. My daughter is on notice that if she ever gets pregnant while still living in my house she will have an abortion. There will be no more babies here. If she wants to have the baby, that’s fine. But she will not be living in my house when she has it and under no circumstances will I let her in my house with it.
If she wants to get married and have kids when she’s older, that’s her business. But I will not be her babysitter, and if she decides to visit me with her little darling, she better be prepared to expose the kid to second hand smoke because I will smoke in it’s darling little presence.
Liberals must hate kids as much as I do to think the Palins have some kind to family crisis to deal with just because they’ll be young grandparents.

I heard that moron on Laura’s show today and couldn’t believe my ears; I was alternately pissed off at what he was saying while at the same time laughing uncontrollably at what a bigoted ass he was making out of himself and doubtlessly pissing women and men off around the country. They must be gripping hard at Camp Barry for such lunatic behaviour to occur. I think Laura was so stunned by his brainless words that she tried to get him to get a grip but he was as rational as a rabid dog.

Some people still believe the myth that we “lost” the war.
Not one military engagement was “lost” to either the NVA or the VC. Not one. Giap, in his memoirs, states clearly that he and the leadership in Hanoi were astounded when the US announced that we were leaving. Tet destroyed 95% of the VC, in manpower and infrastructure. After Tet we were fighting NVA units…and draining North Vietnam of all of its major resources.
But the war was “lost” when leaders in Congress, then, much like Congress over the past several years, decided it was their role to micro-manage a military campaign from 12,000 miles away. That war was lost when Congress decided that getting votes was more important than lives or princple.
But, you guys already knew that. Most rational people do as well.

U.S. Plans to Seize Fannie and Freddie
By STEPHEN LABATON and ANDREW ROSS SORKIN
WASHINGTON — Senior officials from the Bush administration and the Federal Reserve on Friday informed top executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the mortgage-finance giants, that the government is preparing a plan to seize the two companies and place them in a conservatorship, officials and company executives briefed on the discussions said.
KentAllard on September 5, 2008 at 10:57 PM
Socilaism and Supersized!
The plan, effectively a government bailout, was outlined in separate meetings that the chief executives were summoned to attend on Friday at the office of the companies’ new regulator. The executives were told that under the plan, they and their boards would be replaced, and their shareholders virtually wiped out, but that the companies would be able to continue functioning with the government generally standing behind their debt, people briefed on the discussions said.
It is not possible to calculate the cost of any government bailout, but the huge potential liabilities of the companies could cost taxpayers tens of billions of dollars and make any rescue among the largest in United States history.

Actually, Beta, we HAVE fought a war where freedom was in jeopardy. Ever hear of the KOREAN WAR? It took place from 1950 to 1953. So, to do the math, it started 58 (fifty-eight) years ago this summer.
By the way, the correct spelling and usage of the possessive pronoun is “its” and not “it’s”, which is a contraction for “it is” or “it has”.

Just a minute. I have the right to be annoyed. Political parties have the right to be annoyed. Political candidates have the right to be annoyed.
The media does NOT have the right to be annoyed. The media has the right to do their jobs, and if they get criticised, to try to do them better. That’s it.
This just show how the media does not think it is a business, it thinks it is a special participant in American life, with special privileges. This misperception is long overdue for correction.
drunyan8315 on September 6, 2008 at 12:14 AM
The MSM fails to realize that in an economic sense they are simple a can of cola.
Some people trend toward a particular brand. Some avoid a brand. Some find a new or better brand. Some don’t drink cola at all. But it is still just a product, a product produced for monetary gain.
And if you change the flavor of a cola, and do it rashly, you lose a segment of the market. [Remember the New Coke and Pepsi Clear episodes?]
The marketplace will decide the success or failure of a product.
The marketplace will decide the success or failure of the Media.
And if they fail, due to market pressures, all the protesting and railing in the world won’t make a difference unless or until they come up with a sellable product.
Seems over the past many years the Media have been trying to force feed us trendy New Coke or Pepsi Clear. They believe it is the best thing since sliced bread to come down the pike, they’ve spent millions trying to get us to beleive that. The consumers are realizing that no matter how you package it or extol its virtues, people just don’t like New Coke or Pepsi Clear.
At some point they will go back to the original formula, and all this present-day New Coke/Pepsi Clear MSM we’ve had to endure will be a distant and forgettable memory.

It never ceases to amaze me, the extent to which the Left assumes that anyone not on their little bandwagon is a complete idiot.
Bristol Palin is sacrificed on the altar of political expediency, and it’s her mother’s fault? I don’t recall reading any accounts that Governor Palin has added Editor of the NYT, US Weekly, &c. to her list of accomplishments. Governor Palin didn’t decide to spread that story far and wide; the editors of shameless lefty rags did.
It’s also an insult to Todd Palin. How is it that Democrats believe that he can’t look after his children while his wife is busy governing her state or running for VP?
Even if both parents are busy, the older children can watch the younger ones. My Irish Catholic grandmother had 9 siblings, do you think her parents raised all 10 children by themselves? That’s idiotic. Large families understand the concept of pipelining.

And for the record, you’re probably not old enough to remember the war in Vietnam, of course, neither am I. But I am well-versed in the history of my country in which I am proud.
We never technically declared war on Vietnam. We went to Vietnam as part of a policing action to control the spread of communism and assist the South Vietnamese. The U.S. didn’t lose the war in Vietnam, the South Vietnamese did after we cut off funding and troop aid.

Funny, I have an aunt and uncle with that many children – three of them adopted from India – and they’ve raised them pretty much by themselves from the moment they joined the family. And are doing a grade A job of it too. I’ve never heard any of them say anything about ‘pipelining’…but I DO know they understand a very old concept: your children are first and foremost your responsibility.
