Top Obama supporter to Ingraham: Shouldn’t Palin be home taking care of her kids? Update: Media annoyed at GOP criticism

Fair to call him a “top” supporter? Given the fact that he’s a member of The One’s national finance committee and advertises that fact in his HuffPo bio, I’m going with “yes.” His M.O. reminds me of Greenwald trying to rewrite the definition of “chickenhawk” so that it applies to the right but not the left: Start with the smear you want to use, then refine the parameters just enough to protect your own side from the tu quoque. In this case it means replacing the argument that mom should be home with the family with the more highly nuanced argument that any politician of either sex should be home when their family’s in crisis. Bristol’s pregnant and baby Trig has Down’s syndrome and, gosh, don’t you think a responsible mother gender-neutral parent would consider that before doing something as rash as running for high office? To which I reply: Am I hallucinating or isn’t there a guy on the other ticket who had a much worse family crisis than this, who in fact has been praised to the heavens for not quitting his job and instead making a heroic effort to manage both kids and career through hard times? Did I dream that? I could have sworn I heard something about it recently.
All part of the effort to freak-ify her, of course. She’s a bad mom with a chillbilly family better suited to Springer than to network election coverage. That’s why the AP’s including cute little details about school mascots in their stories of how many colleges she attended. And why “respectable” journals of left-wing thought are soliciting pieces from advice columnists. Exit question: Does the left really want to play a game of “children ruined by absentee political parents”? Because I know just the place to start.
Update: Don’t you mind what those conservatives are saying about the press, now. The coverage is fair because, well, we say it is:
After several primetime speakers at this week’s Republican National Convention unleashed a barrage of attacks on the news media for their coverage of vice-presidential nominee Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, network news executives defended their coverage and dismissed the charges as a stale political strategy meant to distract viewers from legitimate election issues.
“It’s a time-honored marketing ploy and, every time they bash the media, it means they’re not talking about a vision or a plan,” CNN president Jon Klein said. “But the best antidote to cynical marketing is solid reporting.”…
“America has been presented with a total unknown who might be a heartbeat away from the presidency,” Klein said of Palin, “and Americans have every right to expect as much information as possible about this person so that they can make an informed choice. Certainly our critics are in favor of Americans making an informed choice, aren’t they?”
What Klein means by “informed choice,” of course, is having his reporters recycle Daily Kos rumors about whether Trig is really Palin’s child and wonder aloud whether the mother of a Down’s baby should really be doing something as selfish as running for vice president.
These morons understand that the public agrees with McCain’s campaign about this, yes?

Japan seems to like Sarah too
“Palin’s speech Wednesday night was “very much viewed” in Japan. Big issues in the election – the economy, the two wars, the healthcare system – “aren’t really understood or interesting to Japanese,” Sugita said. “But character issues are big interest because everyone can join in the debate.””

This makes perfect sense to the Anti-American/Pro-Jihadi Left; since they believe in Infanticide, and aborting all their babies, they never have to make a decision like this!
See?
But, all those hick & rube “breeders” out there, such as Sarah Palin, clinging to her small-town values, guns, and religion; now how dare she be “uppity” and aspire for the VP slot since she decided to bring “defective” children into the world; she should be at home, raising the next generation of “trailer trash”!
See how easy it to understand how the Anti-American/Pro-Jihadi left things?

Two female teachers were talking at work yesterday in the lunch room about Sarah. I suggested kiddingly that they should be careful because she’s my gal. One teacher who just had a baby and has 3 little ones said, “she should be home taking care of her children.” I was aghast and said “a liberal democrat says that Sarah should be home?” She said yes. At which point I said I suddenly remembered why I didn’t eat in the lunch room and walked out. Then I walked back in and said “at least she didn’t get where she is on her husband’s coat tails.” Well, they haven’t spoken to me today. But I’m getting sick of the left wings in the educational system. (It’s jr hi, but I suppose the kids hear the same thing in the classroom)

Premature attempted character assassination.
They’ve been blue balling it for almost 8 years. Can hardly blame them. They could have just tasted victory back in 04. Kerry’s defeat dealt them quite a blow. I’d hate to see them after another 4 years. Can’t imagine the exquisite shade of blue to their balls at that point.
Actually, I wouldn’t mind seeing them suffer for another 4 years, come to think of it.
wise_man on September 5, 2008 at 4:40 PM
Well in Palin’s case, doesn’t PTA president/hockey mom turned mayor count as community organizer in a more positive sense of the term than Obama’s agenda of continuing and affirming the institution of racial hatred in South Chicago?
The real problem here is the underlying assertion that raising kids is a mother’s responsibility. No mention of the “First Dude” father who has essentially taken on the role of stay-at-home parent. A move, BTW, which the Clintons’ never even considered when they figured out that the village could do a better job of raising Chelsea than either of them could.

Why does the left keep saying that this is a horrible situation for the family, shouldn’t be putting this child on the world stage etc? This young woman is getting married, she is having a child, she comes from a strong, loving, supportive family. I would imagine that the Palins spoke to Bristol about what was going to happen before she took the nomination. Perhaps it was traumatic at first, I would imagine no family wants this for their child but to suggest that the parent’s life (mother’s life) should stop is absolutely absurd! They make me sick.. but I LOVE that they are shaking in their shoes!

Democrats always insist that women can go as far as their talents will take them. The nuance is that this applies only to DEMOCRATIC PARTY WOMEN. Republican women can stay home, barefoot and pregnant. Like I said, nuance.
Next thing you know, Governor Palin will be accused of sexism in that she’s apparently emasculated Barry Obama both physically and politically.

I had the misfortune to be in Chicago for a business trip in July, coinciding with the American Federation of Teacher’s convention. You never saw so many whiny, angry, bitter, jealous, misguided, irresponsible people in your life (unless you happened to be in Denver two weeks ago.)
When you ask them question — i.e. would you wear the “Bush Sucks” shirt you’re wearing now in a classroom full of kids — you get an intelligent response like, “why don’t you go **** Dick’s Cheney’s ****, a******!”
Very nice. Makes me understand why so many kids drop out of school… and why we need “School Choice.”
VastRightWingConspirator on September 5, 2008 at 4:45 PM
Well, they haven’t really gone very far. Yet. They’ve got two choices: Cut their losses by shutting up about the Republican VP candidate like now or sooner; start a campaign next week to have the Palin’s children taken away and put in foster homes. I kind of think the former would make more sense politically, but with this gang you never know.
My dream would be that the polls start making Joebama look like a certain loser, and driving the Dems even crazier, leading them and especially the NOW Dems to go all out trying to tarnish Palin with an eye to the next generation of electoral politics… and it works just about as well as the insanely stupid Eagleton memos and stupidly insane fake-pregnancy ravings.

What worries me about Biden’s fathering is that the kids are apparently still living at home and go to bed at 7pm. Part of Biden’s standard speech still includes references to he, like most Americans, sit around the kitchen table talking about the terrible economy after the kids have been put to bed. Biden’s kids are in their 20s/30s. Isn’t it a little creepy that Joe Biden is still putting his kids to bed?

AMDG on September 5, 2008 at 4:53 PM
I cannot even begin to describe how much this line of attack makes my blood boil. Just because I gave birth, I did not magically lose my desire to do other things than parenting. The same goes for Sarah Palin – in fact, I’m sure it was the fact that she is a mother that she decided to get more involved in public life. I (and by extension, Gov Palin) am perfectly capable of doing two things at once… I can even pat my head and rub my belly simultaneously. Sarah has the benefit of having a supportive husband and family around to share her burden – that’s what families are for. Would these people fault a single mother (particularly a minority or Democrat) for getting involved in politics? Of course not, the media would be lavishing praise on her. No, Sarah needs to take her shoes off and make her way back to the kitchen to make Todd a sammich after she’s done ironing his shirts because – you got it – she’s a conservative.
My husband is very rarely around due to military duties. However, he’s a wonderful father and he’s very much a part of his children’s lives. Nobody faults him for not being around us 24/7, because he is serving our country and he has me to run the house. Well, Gov Palin is serving her country, and has her husband to run things. If my husband can do it, so can she.
/end rant, because I’m ready to expload.
