Panicky Messiah turns for help to the only woman who can save America from Palinmania
posted at 12:49 pm on September 5, 2008 by Allahpundit
Thus is the final battle joined.
Or is it?
Senator Barack Obama will increasingly lean on prominent Democratic women to undercut Gov. Sarah Palin and Senator John McCain, dispatching Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to Florida on Monday and bolstering his plan to deploy female surrogates to battleground states, Obama advisers said Thursday…
Obama aides said they were counting on not only Mrs. Clinton but also Democratic female governors to rebut Ms. Palin — and, by extension, Mr. McCain. Those governors include Janet Napolitano of Arizona and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas…
“What McCain has done with Governor Palin’s nomination is aim right at a demographic that Obama needs to address quickly: noncollege-educated women,” said Mike McCurry, a former spokesman in the Clinton White House. “They need to maximize Biden’s ability to reach out to them, but at the end of the day, it is Obama who has to get that very, very critical group.”…
Advisers to Mrs. Clinton said that she stood ready to help the Obama-Biden ticket, but they urged the campaign not to overestimate the impact Mrs. Clinton could have, noting that she had other commitments this fall, like campaigning and raising money for Senate candidates.
The CW after Palin’s speech was that Hillary’s the big loser because there’s another prominent woman around to usurp her throne. Just the opposite: Now Her Majesty gets to play kingmaker by dispensing her gender cache to whatever greater or lesser extent she sees fit to counter Palin. Obama’s at her mercy. Either McCain wins and finishes off Obama’s presidential ambitions, clearing the way for her in 2012, or else Obama wins with Hillary’s stature as feminist pope bolstered by having helped keep the sisterhood in the fold. The problem with the second strategy is that if she hits the trail in earnest and McCain wins anyway, it’ll be taken as evidence that her moment with women has passed. Better to sit back, half-ass it, and let the media decide later that she wasn’t really trying so that the thought of her deploying her army of women in 2012 still strikes terror into the GOP’s heart. Which, it sounds like, is what she’s going to do.
Incidentally, am I mistaken or wasn’t the left very indignant indeed last week that McCain would stoop to playing identity politics with women’s votes? And yet here we are, with the Light and the Way set to roll out an army of surrogates to counter Palin, all of whom coincidentally happen to be female. The Times actually played up that fact in its original headline for this story, before surreptitiously changing it sometime last night to make it sound less cynical and damaging to Obama. Althouse caught them in the act. Exit question: How many progressive Obama supporters at the Florida rally will greet Hillary wearing “Bros Before Hos” t-shirts?
Update: Here’s how flat-flooted Team Barry’s been caught: They’re apparently still pushing the Eagleton meme.

One more point…Palin has shown now that the reality of a women president is the real deal…that has to give Hillary a boost. Palin is in essence paving the way for Hillary.
The caveat is Hillary may be offered the Veep, Biden may “have to step down” for personal or other reasons, and Hillary will fill the position.

I’m not confused at all. I love Gov. Sarah Palin and I love Sen. Hillary Clinton. The latter more than the former, but regardless, I’m glad I didn’t have to choose between the two. Though, I would’ve loved to have seen both of them debate each other.

At this point, Hillary has NO incentive to slide into the VP role. She wants the whole thing and that means Obambi going down in November. Why would she want to be VP? If it was offered to her before, she would have had to have begrudgingly taken it, that’s why she basically told BO she didn’t want it. VP would have potentially pidgeon-holed her in that position until 2016! In her mind, she’s sitting in the cat birds seat now…Hilarious!
hooligan on September 5, 2008 at 1:19 PM
If Hillary wants to secure her 2012 nomination…and this would be her last chance…she’d simply say “No.”
Hillary has a lot more smarts when it comes to inside political fighting. If she panders to Obama and Obama loses, Hillary is over, done, kaput, finito.

DaveC on September 5, 2008 at 1:22 PM
Been thinking on it a bit, and I think this move by Obama will backfire with MALE voters.
Key here is Sarah Palin is the archtype of what Men want in a Woman… a Woman who will have and raise children, not abort them… Stay with the man as a partner and mate… be an advocate, not a harridan… help us on the hunt, not condemn us for doing it… support us in our manly hobbies (like LONNNNGGGG snowmobile races), not b1tch at us for being men… and all the while, look good doing it…
Face it… its what a LARGE percentage of men really want… and its a shot across the bow of the Media and Hollyweirds idea of what a woman ought to be.
Putting the Harridans out in favor of Obama, will look really bad in comparison to Gov. Palin, because the LAST thing we want is for the Harridans to win, and thus be an example to our potential mates… and daughters.
I’m about as far from a MetroSexual as you can get… and single… and trust me… there are a LOT of women out there in their 40′s who have found that the Harridan messege put out by the media and the Nat Org of Women is counterproductive to their happiness…

Does it come with an armada of taxpayer financed staff? Does it give you the opportunity to shape policy and the country? Hell no to all of them!!!
Hillary wants to be President — end of discussion! If she helps the Messiah win the Presidency then she seriously damages her chances of ever reaching her one and only goal.
Is she happy about Sarah Palin’s entrance on the scene? Of course not. But all said and done she still stands a much better chance of winning the Presidency in 2012 against a President McCain or President Palin then running in 2016 when she’s 8 years older and the Democrats are now the party the people have grown weary of leading our country.

Actualy? Not a bad idea…
What most men want has not been on the MSM radar for years. They PROJECT onto us what THEY think we’re supposed to be… and want… and then convince women that its the truth…
They then convince WOMEN that their archtype is what you are supposed to be…
So they don’t allow women, to be women… or men, to be men… and then are suprised when they are not happy and need therapy and couseling…
There are HUNDREDS of magazines out there putting out the Liberal Ideal of women… but NONE that I know of that celebrate the image that most men really want… that of a strong PARTNER AND EQUAL who is a Woman (not a wanna be Man).

An important facet of politics is the favor: granting favors, owing favors, and cashing in favors. The successful politician maximizes his or her standing through the careful use of the favor.
Hillary is the one granting favors over the next two months by campaigning. So the question is how should she maximize the worth of those favors? Is she better off by having Obama owe her or is she better off with a slate of congressional and senate candidates in her debt? Hillary wants to run for President again and the debts of those congressional and senate candidates are worth more to her than Obamas.
