Oprah afraid of Palin? Update: Oprah responds

Perhaps the Carney meme of Sarah Palin being afraid of the media is a case of projection. Drudge reports that Oprah Winfrey will not invite the first woman on a Republican ticket to be a guest on her show. Why? She’s apparently afraid of the damage it will do … to Barack Obama:
“Half of her staff really wants Sarah Palin on,” an insider explains. “Oprah’s website is getting tons of requests to put her on, but Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against it because of Obama.”
One executive close to Winfrey is warning any Palin ban could ignite a dramatic backlash!
One might assume that, given Winfrey’s demographics. The largest part of her audience is white females over 55 years of age. Almost four times as many women watch as men, although she does get about 1.7 million men a day to view her show.
How will that audience react to a freeze-out of Palin? Many want to see Palin speak to their issues, and might assume that the most successful woman in American entertainment would welcome the opportunity to make that introduction. Instead of making a business decision to do so, though, Winfrey has apparently made a political calculation that Palin will outshine the man she supports for President.
Obviously, someone is afraid of what will happen when Palin meets the American people through the media. From what I see, it’s not John McCain or Sarah Palin who fears it.
Update: Oprah has issued a statement in response to the Drudge story:
The item in today’s Drudge Report is categorically untrue. There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the beginning of this Presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over.
TMZ notes that Obama has appeared on Oprah twice, both before he announced his candidacy for the White House.

Before Oprah is anything, she is an entertainer. Remember that. Viewers have never really dictated what she did on the show. She always has and always will maintain complete creative control of her enterprise.
And remember this is really pretty much 50 50 here in America right now, so anybody she may turn off for not having Palin on, Oprah is fully aware that there is someone she has mad happy by not having Palin on.
Sorry, I know that was clumsily worded, but you get the point.

Checkers. Chess.
The gambit has opened. Oprah has shot herself in the foot already. Any “details” about when and how many times Obama appeared on her show is meaningless at this point.
How many times any other candidate ever appeared on her show is equally meaningless.
Oprah’s own comments sectiuon and a huge host of blogs has spoken….they are no longer in awe of Oprah.
The whole point and this is where Palin makes her next move, two or three moves ahead of conventional wisdom, is moving on to the next subject/target, and leaving Oprah in her wake.
Methinks McCain is bringing her up to speed on the OODA loop.

Oprah no longer matters.
The Mccain/Palin campaign is already working on other targets.
And the viewers of Oprah have inflected damage to Team Obama/Oprah.
coldwarrior on September 5, 2008 at 2:47 PM
Her show has always been theatre for her leftist ideals. She denied Thomas a spot on her show concerning his book, yet promotes Obama. How is that not a campaign stop? Again I agee she has a right to do what she decides, but I don’t understand how you can’t see how we are enjoying the Oprah civil war?
I mean if something this big happened to say Rush’s audience, the Kos kids would be just as happy?
ClassicCon on September 5, 2008 at 2:50 PM
My guess is that Oprah will quit doing her show soon. The ratings have been dropping like a rock since she climbed on the Obama love bus and she has more then enough money to sit on her ass in her Manolo’s and eat bonbons for the rest of her life.

I read it. And it still seems pretty apparant to me that all of the kneejerks don’t see the facts.
I don’t think Oprah would have mattered, even IF she DID have Obama on once a week from here on out and refused to have Palin on. I don’t think it would matter.
Call me a fool….but I just don’t think it matters.
My point still stands. She isn’t using her show as a campaign stop. It’s fact. It’s simple.
She obviously, very publicly supports Obama for Pres…but she IS NOT USING HER SHOW to give the clowns a pulpit.
And she’s a brilliant business woman for making that decision.
Drudge has everyone in an uproar for a day or so. And into the black hole of history this story goes……

Bridge,
This is only true if you’re asserting that campaigns start when the candidate announces he or she is running.
From my perch on the back of the sofa, here in Illinois it was obvious we weren’t electing a Senator – we were instead nominating a Presidential candidate.
Worse, Oprah may not use “The Oprah Show” to promote Obama, but she does use the person of Oprah to make appearances at Obama campaign events.

Basically, and Governor Palin understands this, this is a hallmark of her supposedly unqqualified political life, it’s akin to moose hunting.
You don’t stand up in an open field and say “Here Moosie, Moosie!” You quietly wait and stalk. Let the moose make the mistake. Then after running an oil rag over your weapon, you take out the hunting knife and field dress that sucker.

Right, a discussion implies two-way communication, whereas Oprah categorically decreed that Palin will not be on her show until AFTER the election.
“At the beginning,” Oprah hosted BarriO and endorsed him.
It isn’t as if Oprah is the correct venue for Palin. But that Oprah publicly closed and locked her doors before anyone knocked places the lack of grace smack dab on Oprah’s jackass.

It is not about Oprah’s show anymore. It is all about cleaving off a demographic. One vote more for McCain/Palin can mean one less vote for Obama/Biden. Multiply this by various demographics and you win. Based on the comments on Oprah’s site and quite a number of other sites, and seems a huge portion of potential voters have been gained…and their angst over the alleged or perceived Oprah snub means they will be tlaking to friends and co-workers and family members…and the effect multiplies. And, the blame, as it were, comes to rest on Oprah. Clean gambit, clean hands.
OODA at its best.

What If His People Prayed – by Casting Crowns
What if the armies of the Lord
Picked up and dusted off their swords
Vowed to set the captives free
And not let satan have one more
What if the church, for heaven’s sake
Finally stepped up to the plate
Took a stand upon God’s promise
And stormed hell’s rusty gates
Chorus:
What if His people prayed
And those who bear His name
Would humbly seek His face Yeah
And Turn from their own way
And what would happen if we prayed
For those raised up to lead the way
Then maybe kids in school could pray
And unborn children see light of day
What if the life that we pursue
Came from a hunger for the truth
What if the family turned to Jesus
Stopped asking Oprah what to do
What if His people prayed
And those who bear His name
Would humbly seek His face Yeah
And Turn from their own way
He said that they would hear
His promise has been made
He’ll answer loud and clear
If only we would pray
If My people called by My name
If they’ll humble themselves and pray
If My people called by My name
If they’ll humble themselves and pray

No. Take a look at the Obama strategy published on ANY left or right wing site. He the one (no pun intended) who is openly targeting “non-college educated women”. Want more proof? He and his campaign have been parading around the false accusation that McCain opposes equal pay for women and a thousand other smears. He is the one (again, no pun) that started with the “houses” nonsense and his pushing his “community organizer” credentials.
Now, by picking Palin, the ONLY line that has come out of that camp is “It turns out that the women of America aren’t finished yet”. Other than that, there are no smears- only the bold-faced fact that Palin has a better record of dealing with “kitchen table” issues AND domestic issues than anyone in Congress. Go down the list- who has actually DONE things about energy, jobs, corruption, taxes, oil companies, budgets, etc.?
Show me ONE issue that Obama has actually authored legislation on and passed that has anything to do with these issues in his entire career.
You want the answer? It’s ZERO. Period. The best he can come up with is the “community organizer” line, where he lobbied government (yes, lobbied… that stuff he is opposed to) to fund corrupt developer’s projects where they got rich and the people he was supposedly fighting for still live in squalor.
Prove me wrong. I welcome it.

The majority of Black people want a black President because they figure he will punish white people and shove more white earned resources to Black people. Many Blacks deeply believe white people have a much longer history and deeper experience in education, business, finance, confidence and leadership which gives whites an advantage that needs to be neutered down to make a more even playing field.
A falling tide lowers all boats. Many Blacks don’t subscribe to the view that a rising tide floats all boats because they think these inherant weaknesses are float stoppers in their case.
What the US needs to do is re-enforce the notion of hard work and paying attention in school is the secret to success, not socialism.

One of the responses to Oprah on her site. Beautiful:
You have become such a major disappointment to me (and many of my girlfriends) over the past couple of years. I have been a huge fan for many of my years. But I disassociate myself with anything Oprah from now on. You truly irked me when you threw Obama to the media forefront for your own personal gain and to suffocate us with your political position. It comes across as your nauseating love for the man started just because he’s black. As an Illinois citizen, I will tell you this man has done crap as a lawmaker. Ooops, I am wrong. He did vote to NOT sustain the life of an aborted baby if it happens to survive it’s crucifixion…just let it lay there and flail and whimper til he/she dies…perfect! You have distanced yourself from Christianity and put your faith in New Age materials (I certainly hope I am not standing behind YOU on judgment day). You claim to have been turned off by the Christian faith since you heard a sermon that spoke of our God as a jealous God. You (as all of us) have so much to learn. Our God IS a jealous God. He wants our devotion, attention and service honoring His glory and not for worldly gain. If you would have just sought the pastor to ask, it would have been crystal clear to you. Then there was that idiotic video you took of you and Gail on your road trip. I knew I was watching worthless television when you didn’t even know how to pump gas…you should have been ashamed to proudly proclaim you didn’t know how to work a gas pump. I thought you had “meager” beginnings. Have you become such an elitist or as I like to say “snob” that you can’t even function with the most basic of all daily routines??? And now, you refuse to have Sarah Palin on…is her life story not as worthy as the black man’s? Are you afraid she will ultimately make a fool out of YOU with her intellect and passion and experiences??? Like I said…truly disappointed in you; but only a little surprised! And if you don’t post this opinion…that will speak volumes to me!!!

At the risk of speaking outside my area of expertise (I am a man, after all), Oprah and others like her, are liberals first and feminists second. It seems to me that a true feminist would promote all womens issues, including those of conservative women. Since a large number of woman (40-50%?) are against abortion, wouldn’t a true “feminist” also speak to that side of the isle? Alas, that does not seem to be the case. Liberals first, feminists second.

One word serves all. Education. School vouchers. Put those black kids in decent schools, give them a good basic education and allow them equal shots at equal jobs for equal pay. Discipline problems created by no father family units would take some extra work, but it has to be done. The legislative race baiters have tried to cover up lousy educational opportunities with affirmative action quotas. Bad. It would take about 2 generations to even out, and about 75% of this “hate whitey” nonsense would stop.

If elected, Obama will do the same to his “friends”, only worse. The only way Oprah saves face is to do a week long “package” for all 4 candidates and families etc, then be done with it. Surly wouldn’t count on anything close to that happening though.

It’s been that way lately. About everything.

Read my mind. It’s amazing that liberals like to paint conservatives as “single issue eagles” in regards to abortion, but that the abortion issue is the single reason why so many otherwise moderate women will not vote Republican. They have a chance to vote for a real feminist and “break that glass ceiling”. Instead, they’re going to piss away their vote on two guys whose party really hasn’t done shit but pay lip service to women (and minorities) concerns over the years. Wake up!
Republican Party = Empowerment
Democrat Party = Affirmative Action

I would be satisfied if they just told the truth. Also it does not seem like the plane was sold at a profit as the plane was valued at 2.7 million and it sold for 2.1 million.

P.S.
Who gives a flying, freakin’ crap about the jet being sold?
Are you freakin’ kidding me?

The hard partisans on the left and on the right are like two sides of the same coin. Two Americas – that two sided coin and most everyone else.

Correct me if I’m wrong but broker fees are what…10 to 20 % and what are ebay fees? Don’t forget maint and hanger fees…just sitting there on the tarmac… I’d say it was a wash…imho

Oprah is a coward.

Oprah is a fraud. She has used women to get to her place of power which she now uses for B Hussein Obama. Oprah’s loyalty has ALWAYS been to her race first. NEVER to women!

Tell that to John McCain then as he said not only that it sold on eBay, which it did not, but that it sold for a profit. Two sets of liars and two sets of sheeple. Two sides of the same coin.
KentAllard on September 5, 2008 at 4:50 PM
Oprah is in the tank for Obama, why go on that show?
Chakra Hammer on September 5, 2008 at 4:52 PM
Ok… Do YOU know all the particulars of this sale…If not …you’re talking out your butt…
Do you have ANY idea what it takes to maintain a jet… I think not…you’re blowin’ HOT AIR on the wrong site…

Oprah is a racist.
If Obama happened to have his mother’s light skin, Oprah would have never publicly supported him.

white and accomplished = Devil
